  1. Today
  2. That was one of my bug bears on Nazeing Lagoons, leaving the gear unattended was not recommended when walking around. Having to walk Sky would not be a relaxing experience on there. At least on my current lake it is safe. I have had a phone call from my dad having a problem, reeled in, driven to his and taken him to the doctors, then gone back to the lake. I struggle with staying or moving, I probably split the two 50/50. The numbers of times I see fish move onto a spot after 48hours. "Oh, you need washed out baits", not if the fish aren't even coming onto the bait or into the area for a day at least. Taverham got like that; the Friday night bait up, and fish would avoid the spot until Sunday. Fish were obviously caught at the weekend, usually to small traps, but not so many over bait. I've had numbers of fish from baits left in place for 2 days, not even reeled in, not something I can do now obviously. If I move onto the fish I see, it's nearly always a single or a bag or stringer. No point in piling it in and potentially spooking them.
  3. I guess you can't teach effort, energy and enthusiasm which the best have in bucket loads. I met a few very keen younger anglers this spring thought there was gonna be too much competition, but thankfully not seen any of them since - talked a good game then the blanks kicked in. Sadly there's been a tackle theft on one of the lakes this year so leaving the kit for laps has become a bit risky so I either check the nearby swims or put the valuables back in the car and do a lap. Moving is exciting you've found something and a fresh new plan comes into play, but sometimes staying put and giving it an extra night is the one - but I struggle with that one.
  4. lovely fish good luck again
  5. Yesterday
  6. There have been a few about. I think that what saves this stretch is actually how busy with people it can be, and the otters don't get the chance to settle. They have had some of the chub, perch and pike, but with so many paddleboarders and kayakers going in and out near the mill and car park, fish are given a refuge. I'm there again tonight, so we'll see if the chub are about again.
  7. I know exactly what you mean. I sit in the bivvy extension with my binoculars almost pinned to my eyes. A couple of years ago I was opposite someone on the syndicate and at dusk saw a fish roll at the end of the island. It was closer to him than to me, but not a spot he could reach as an overhanging willow prevented him casting there, so I launched a big boy cast around 120metres. First thing in the morning I had a 23lb common. Next thing I've seen him wade out to in front of the willow, around 15metres, and try to put a bait where I had the fish from. I hate moving, it hurts, but again, I had 2 blank nights over a prebaited spot, so moved to the actual swim the angler above was in, only 100metres to my right, and flicked a bag under the willow, that lead to a 20lb mirror. The fact that the move took 3 hours and was a nightmare, the fish made up for it. Every day I do walk around the lake, both for fish hunting and for Sky's benefit, and if I have to, will move. Funny though, frequently I will see fish somewhere else, get ready to pack up and move, then they start showing in front of where I am. I've got a couple of three sets of scales, a small set of digital luggage scales for chub and roach, my Grandeslam scales for carp and pike and a set of flyweights that live in the car just in case. The flyweights have weighed a few thornbacks up to 7lb as well as stalked chub and carp.
  8. Exactly this - "gonna need the BIG scales" - woohoo! 🏃‍♂️ Went halves on a set of Ruben 120's for Parco - hopefully one day I'll need them!
  9. I remember trying to weigh my first 40 on a set of Flyweights. You can imagine my elation as I realised it wasn't going to happen 😃. I was proud as punch on the trek to the car to pick up the big boy scales! Happy memories!😊
  10. Yonny: Sorry I didn't realise that, they looked a bit like the old Weigh Master scales I used to have. Kevtaylor: Might have to do the same thing, I have the big Ruben dial scales, they are a bit bulky, come to think of it I don't actually use them much now anyway! 😃
  11. Agreed! also what you've said about the scales is bang on, got the flyweights for pike, perch, chub and carp stalking, gonna swap them in and put the bigger ones in the car - nice one cant believe I didn't do that years ago! 👍
  12. There is enough free stuff online to learn from and quickly no doubt, however some things are said over and over but are not digested. How many anglers have said on film you need to watch the water, move onto fish yet how many actually do this? - barely any! I'll be stood out in the water for hours at dusk just watching and it actually makes people un-comfortable opposite - it's like what's he doing staring at the water, I'll shuffle about and hide in the bivvy again! Up at 8-9am, get up spod for no reason, no laps, no move, no watching - yet they've seen the same videos as everyone else. I guess it always comes back to are you camping or fishing? I've got a mate who will not move regardless, and doesn't watch the water, got the technical set-ups right but a bit lazy with that too, hook points etc Really he's camping to get away from it all which I understand totally but in his head he's doing everything that his hero Adam Penning does! Weird rant sorry everyone lol
  13. Decent video.. I enjoyed it.... but I cannot help but think it's not quite as good as all the Tel videos that Jack Reid of ESP produced. It looks like Steve Metcalfe produced this one, the marketing guy at Sticky/TA, which makes sense. With fish of that quality on film it's hard to go wrong and it was a decent watch. Fantastic for a first attempt at a Tel vid. They're Ruben Heaton Flyweights..... some of the best =/<40lb scales you can get. I used to carry a set for smaller kippers and still have them somewhere. It make sense to carry them with the big scales in the car. No-one catches a 40 on every trip... not even Tel. Agree. Proper gnarly.
  14. Last week
  15. All fishing video's are advertorials! It's a trade off. You get to watch a fishing expert tackle a water and catch some biggies and he shows you how he did it and the tackle and bait used. The said tackle and bait are exclusively from his employer or sponsor. As long as it's not in your face and false claims made that you'll only catch using the same gear, I'm happy to go along with it. All professional anglers are influencers. God I hate that word but it's true. I remember when I was kid (going to show my age now), when the only fishing program on TV was a very occasional 5 minute segment on Out of Town by Jack Hargreaves. There weren't VCR's or Catch Up and so if you missed it, you'd have to wait months for your next fix. There are reams of stuff on You Tube and it's easy to become an instant carper if you digest enough. I learn't a hell of a lot from watching some of the DVD's when I switched from barbel to carp. I still watch a lot now and although some can get a bit samey, I still pick up some tips and incorporate them in my fishing. For the last six months I've been using Terry's flipper rig using bottom baits on at least one rod after being pretty exclusive on wafters and have caught pretty well on it.
  16. But if the messiah is promoting it then It will sell like hot cakes 🫣 it’s all about the money, money, money we really need your money, money, money.. (sic)
  17. I get it, I think it's the narration from his garden again, every video seems to follow this format so yeah they all seem the same 👍
  18. ChatGPT сказал: The Beastmaster reels have clearly held their value well over the years, which says a lot about their reliability. The current 14000XC model at around £90 looks like a solid continuation of that line.
  19. "Are we talking about the old Nash Monster pursuit bait as used by the likes of Terry hearn and Nigel sharp back in the day? From memory it was a fishmeal bait with added Robin red with an added Shellfish flavour." Sorry so easy on line to find this stuff, from another site, just a big bait circus, no doubt it will fly off the shelves tho....... until the next big thing..... 😄
  20. Something from the past …. hmmmm
  21. It's a sticky bait called the legacy, seen Scott Lloyd using it in a video too.
  22. New bait probably due out autumn at a guess but my guess is something along the lines of either the source or complex T or what about something like monster pursuit…..
  23. And those baits are deff not any current Sticky ones 🤫
  24. On reflection, maybe a bit harsh on my comment, as ever the carp were amazing, big old ones and not fished to death by noddies! Couple of things tho... why did he use some 'cheapo' scales to weigh the fish? and... kept mentioning about the 20mm boilies, might be the Source, but did notice a 'sneak' view of a Sticky bag coming from the cool box too? Fair play to the bloke deff better videos than most. Just wish I could get out on the bank today and tomorrow but unfortunatly lakes are closed... weed clearance apparently, didn't seem to bother Tell tho 🙂 Or me if I was allowed to fish!
  25. That Speedboat Linear was something else 😎👌
  26. I’d be looking at between 12 and 15lb if you get 2 spools on the reel then I would get both one for the open water fishing and the other for the “snaggier” areas. If you can only afford the one line then get the 15lb imo I would be looking at fishing the margins on a float and hopping between swims Float fishing with sweetcorn or luncheon meat on the hook. bobs ya uncle…
  27. Thank you so much for your advice. Have you tried the Hyper Sensor at all? As for the reel, my budget is super tight since I'm just a student starting out, so I'm looking for reels around £35 or under. I've done some more reading and I'm now wondering: should I get a free spool reel or not? As for casting distance, I think I'll only be casting around 30 meters maximum, since there is a huge island in the middle. This is why I'm looking at a 4000-sized reel.
  28. Yeah I've read they quite extensively: Barbless hooks only Carp care kit No leadcore or leaders of any kind and no fixed rigs Minimum 10lb mainline - no braided mainline Minimum un-hooking mat of 24 inches by 44 inches Minimum 36 inch landing net - Strictly NO pan or match sized landing nets Each angler must be self sufficient - no equipment sharing Fishing from woodchipped swims only ( with sleepers ) If fishing near lily pads you MUST place bivvy/tent in the swim No particles allowed except sweetcorn or hemp Banned Baits: Any kind of nuts, chick peas and bloodworm. Only hemp or sweetcorn is allowed
