  2. My first “bivvy” was the old Shakespeare cypry dome. bought it on cheque spread from Penge angling. wouldn't like to think how much that was in todays money.
  3. I my opinion split shot on any line for carp is a no no if you want to weight s thank you use the tungsten weight that will slide of if need to
  4. Very similar to what we use now for eels to stop deep hooking
  5. Today
  6. Ahh,yes the good ol Apotheosis, apparently meaning closer to God, or similar ..I never had one Nick ..,but many people I knew did ,I thought the fibre glass version was better than the aero grade alloy poles ,I well remember another chap virtually sweating trying to get those alloy poles to 'clip in ' .. Didn't get no Wrasse, big bull in field ,with attitude, so another time .. I did a list once of the ones I've had ,and thought what a waste of money chasing a rainbow 🌈.. I also use a 50 brolly and wrap .. Big pond ,just past those bovine..!
  7. That sounds a fantastic experience Yonny.. And welcome to the forum to the Canadian chap. .
  8. Oh Mate, please don't. From the original umbrella tent, Fox Jekk shelter overwrap to a couple of Fox EasyDomes, Rod Hutchinson Apotheosis, JRC Roamer Dome, Nash Hurricane Outlaw Dome and overwrap, TFG Hardcore, TFG Oval and overwrap, then the current Rod Hutchinson Hybrid Cabrio Brolly system and Extension. Actually, it's not that many over 40years! I know I killed a few due to weather, the JRC poles delaminated, and I did manage to drop one of the Hybrids on a lit stove. I thought I used and abused my gear, but looking and thinking through that list it is likely that most died of regular use, or I changed due to circumstances. In fact the Apotheosis I gave to my kids to use in the garden. Strangely enough of all of them I returned to the brolly and overwrap, and I would happily go back to the Jekk overwrap over a 50inch brolly. As much as I love a comfortable bivvy, the size and weight of the pramhood or external spoke system puts me off, so I very much prefer the umbrella system.
  9. I was in Kingston Ontario not long ago. The carp fishing over there looks like it could be amazing. I saw carp in several spots during my trip from right down in the marina to hidden away in secluded spots. At one point we went kayaking on Lake Ontario and I found carp milling about by an island. I found a dead carp which with a good size too - at least 20 lb+. I didn't spot one carp angler in all my trip!

  11. It definitely comes down to personal choice ..I'm not actually sure how many shelters or bivvys I've owned ,all I can say ,is its a lot !!,an ,embarrassing amount ,of money I've probably wasted looking for the 'one'... I've come down to this ,tempest 100t ,no frills ,groundsheet is homemade superlight, and infil door ,it's got a nice bit of height to it ,and a pair of whychwood mhr 50 brollies ,and the wrap for ,days ,carping ,perching or a cooking tent ,for camping/ outdoor stuff..and ideal for tight swims on some of the wheals I fish 'wheal means ,mine'clay pit.. I've also got a speedflex pop up bivvy ,but I'll probs move it on ,bit low,it is...all my kit is mega minimal, and hardly ever changed around ,it's just bivvys, that kind of disrupt the flo ...I've got to control it,ha,ha... I'm currently typing this on the edge of a cliff,'stealth camping' within 30 ft of a very long way down 👇..wrassing tomorrow..
  12. I went somewhere backalong, that the porta loo was sooo bad I had to 'go' somewhere else ,but that's what inspired me if you will to get a folding toilet .. In past times,I use a folding bushcraft shovel to bury any doo,doo..and place a stick upright for future note..however most places I fish are quite remote ..but ,I've upped my game a bit ...in that department ..so I feel quite posh now ...
  13. Mega fish - well done 😎 Great to not see otter damage for a change 👌
  14. 22lb 15oz from the canal👌 Its been a good crack these last couple weeks, cutting out swims, raking spots, prebaiting from paddle boards 🤣 Here's 3 of the Carp from last months hit This is my best one at 24lb really please with these ones as well tho 👌 got the bug for it big time at the moment, I did a quick over nighter last night but unfortunately no carp, only tench and bream 🤣
  15. Thanks mate, yeah it has got a big head - should have done self takes with the camera but a mate was there. 🤷‍♂️ Could be Dinton, VS or home grown
  16. Hello, Posting to you about Common Carp fishing all the way from Ontario, Canada. I fished for multi-species for many years, but I am new to Carp fishing. Thanks, CZ
  17. Size of its head @kevtaylor..... that'll be a big'n at some point. Fantastic proportions too. Lovely carp.
  18. Last week
  19. I am absolutely shattered today, and my right knee and hip are agony. Yesterday was a busy day, from Ipswich to collect Bruce Lait and take him to the airport at 2.30am. Back home grab a couple of hours sleep and then go collect my son Levi from Basildon and back to Ipswich via Poplar Nursery at Marks Tey for coffee and a doughnut. Definitely a cafe/restaurant worth a visit.
  20. I was looking at the specifications for both, and like you it would be I think personal choice. Quality wise, I think both are good, and it is just down to others opinions on which they think is best, and I bet you'd get people each saying each one is the best.
  21. I will be using both the groundsheet and inner dome on either, I have both accessories for both bivvies. It’s all very equal on those fronts. The edge goes to Nash because of the peak height and door height - which I personally prefer over the taller middle/back height of the Fox My hesitation comes from not fully understanding whether or not one is generally accepted as better quality than the other… However, I’ve decided on keeping the Nash this evening, and I’ve unravelled it from its original packaging to seal the deal, the Fox is going back… job done
  22. Yep I got one through work recently, I work 50/50 home/office, and I told them - I objectively can not work from the office without a key, my brain/psyche is simply literally incapable of using a cubicle loo, I don’t have a diagnosis, but regardless - it exists, they gave me a key on the spot, and it fits all disabled loos 👍🏻
  23. I managed to get myself a Radar key. Saying that I do go to the local co-op and use their toilet, which is disabled friendly. I dislike the Tardis like portaloos they are foul, and believe me working on building sites I've seen the worst.
  24. I've owned bivvies by Nash and Fox, and both were good quality, if anything, before Fox were sold, the Fox bivvy quality of my 2 EasyDomes were very good. The Nash Outlaw Dome I owned was easy to use, in fact I still have it. @framey makes a very good point. A bivvy can go up very quickly, but it still takes time to put everything away and in order. It can make a mockery of the term, and like him, I hate 'quick overnighter'. My overnighter is, or more correctly, was, arriving after work, fishing the night hours and packing up first thing, usually before work. I may be fishing less than 10hours. Saying that, I do fish like that on the river, setting up just before dark, and being off by 8 or 9am. On an overnighter I will use no bivvy at all if it is going to be dry, or use a plain straight umbrella. The umbrella has an advantage, I can put it up over my bedchair if the weather does turn. If you need to use a groundsheet then that may also make a difference, and do you need any inner dome? Something else to bear in mind, may be worth thinking about, NashBait are being closed down in order to concentrate on Nash Tackle. Fox are so far solidly owned. It might be worth thinking about the possible connotations of that.
  25. Game changer, as I wouldn’t dream of using a public loo. (unless I can access a disabled loo, that’s a top tip for general society btw, disabled loos are generally wayyyyy cleaner than regular, and my qualifying disability is that I’m too anxious to use a regular loo) … anyway back to the point, my flat pack loo is as integral to my bivvy as the frame itself, you couldn’t pay me a grand to go in a shared portaloo, no no no no no no NO, NO
  26. Aye, very much aligned with that, the decision on this is just going to come down to which is the better build quality, which is known to hold up better over time, that sort of thing, still quite fuzzy from everything I’ve researched so figured I’d ask for more opinions on that front - as it stands I’m leaning Nash. The Daiwa Ninja 4pc rods are only on the continent at the moment, from what I can see they are fairly new, got mine from Fishernator and I think fishdeal are doing them as well, 13ft 3.50lb (and 12ft 3lb but I don’t fancy those), I matched them up with some 23 emblem 45 scw QD’s… good match … but obviously still not an ideal rod being at the lower end of specs a bit like the TX-lites, but until somebody makes some high end 4pc rods… have to make do with whatever is available. Good to bump into a fellow TX-Lite enjoyer, as a 4pc fanatic, they are my favourite rods of all time, I’m [censored]ed off that I didn’t buy 3 of every variant before Uttings got rid of all of theirs, there’s only scraps of stock left on them now, mostly 9fts and they’re all £160+, feels gross after Uttings were giving them away at £80odd a pop, but as they say you snooze you lose.
  27. I also hate the term quick overnighter lol i also don’t care how long the shelter takes to put up so when they say it only takes less than a minute to put up that really doesn’t interest me It takes me longer than that to get all the bits out of the bags and then it would be the last thing to go up if at all, i get all the head room I want with nothing over the top. I just want covering if it’s going to rain lol tend to get less bothered by mozzies also I find. back to your problem. If you barrow all the kit around then yep it probably really doesn’t matter if you carry it then it does. im afraid it’s going to be which one suits you best good Luck with whatever one you choose 👍 Ps never seen the ninja rods but I use the ninja reels and I really like them I also have a set of the shimano tx compact 4 piece but in 12foot 2.5tc
  28. They both weight around the same, “stripped out”, the Nash weighs 12.5kg, the Fox weighs 12.6kg, then their like-for-like accessories (inner domes, groundsheets, overwraps) - are also similar in weight, give or take a kg in the end either way, there’s no significant difference between them. I refuse to use 12ft 2pc rods, it’s only thanks to Daiwa releasing the 4pc Ninja rods (13ft 3.50lb) in Europe that I was ship them in and get hold of some long range rods, before that my only carp rods have been Shimano TX-Lite (4pc, 10ft) … my chair is an Aeronium super lite (2.3kg) … bedchair cygnet grandsniper (8.4kg) … I have an original Aqua Atom Mk1 (3.5kg) the lightest and most compact bivvy ever made … I’m currently using a Sonik Xtractor Bivvy, similarly as light and compact as a Tempest Brolly and whatnot As it happens, I am literally Mr Lightweight, Mr Compact On a day session, nothing beats my West Lake Lc Day Shelter Pop up, I’ve had a Tempest 100 Brolly, I have an Atom, I’ve had the Fox Easy Shelter… for weight and packdown size combined with practicality, the West Lake Lc Day Shelter smokes everything… Recently I borrowed a Tempest RS 150, and it changed my whole perspective on bivvies specifically (for night fishing, not day shelters)… I used to obsess about packdown size and night fish with literally zero space in an Atom, but the Xtractor full system made me realise that a 120-160cm pack down size is “fine”, coming from an Atom which packed down to 78cm… (an additional 10kg give or take on the barrow is insignificant to me, it being a manageable / storable size was the most important) …the point is, when I did accept a bigger pack down size, especially after borrowing the RS 150, the comfort on the bank increased exponentially, far far far far outweighing the convenience of the likes of a Tempest 100 Brolly. I just don’t buy into the “brolly for a quick overnighter” cliche anymore, what’s a “quick overnighter”? It’s 24 hours… it’s not a variable it’s a constant… 24 hours on the bank is not “quick” under any circumstances, 24 hours is always 24 hours, and it’s always long, “sleeping in this crisp packet will do you for a quick overnighter”, marketing spiel. Let’s take setup for an example: A Tempest Brolly takes 2? minutes, weighs 10kg? All in A Titan Bivvy takes 7? minutes, weighs 17kg? All in Option A. - do I want to be cramped and hunched and less uncomfortable for 23hours 58minutes, and push 7kg less ? or Option B. - do I want to be liberated and spacious and more comfortable for 23hours and 53minutes, and push 7kg more? I used to be obsessed with Option A, but after borrowing that RS 150 system, I’ll never compromise on that comfort again… based on that I’ve ended up double ordering 2 of the most comfortable bivvies on the market, but like I said - I can only keep one.
