plentycarp Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Hi all last year itook a trip to buy some size 6 hooks as i had run out and saw some Kords wide gape type as they did not have the drennon super specialist i use so i paid the morgage price took them fishing with me and when i had set up waiting for the " big run " i thought i would make 2 new rigs so out came my new hooks they looked very heavy duty just the job so i cut some carp silk 15.0 Lbs and put on a korum quick stop and tied the hair loop and then sent the other end throu the hook eye and did the kontless knot, made the ric then tied the overhand knot the other end the held the hook end over my scissors handle and my finger the other end to tighten it all and it went ping at about 3-5 Lbs and broke off at the hook end hook and quick stop went in the drink...so same repeated thing done away from the water this time and it broke again but caught the hook this time and it appears to have broke on a rough edge on the eye closure. and so i contacted korda and was asked to send the hooks and rig braid spool of drennan carp silk in the post to be checked a letter came back saying my braid was the wrong type for the job and not abrasion resistant enough but could i tie the knoless knot so that the loose end does not come into contact with the eye closure whenthreaded back through the eye to finish.....how strange is this the norn as i have never had to avoid the eye closure on any knot tied over the last million years ive been fishing comments please so i may inform Elliott Gray at Korda development dept....Plenty.C Quote
138cgj Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 This is the second issue with Korda stuff ive heard of in the last couple of weeks, the first being the Hybrid soft. Apparently now they are telling us not to use loop knots with the soft and as such they are taking it off the market. I dont use the hooks so im not sure about them although it sounds like a cop out to me. Quote
jules007 Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 have heard a good few comments on here about korda hooks and not all good, so i wont use the product as its a vital link between you and a prize fish! regards tying the knotless knot, there is a correct way to wind the turns around the shank of a hook, but really sounds like the hooks you had were duff if you want tough but expensive hooks try esp raptors Quote
gidneyboy Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Think yourself lucky you even got a reply from Korda. I had a problem a couple of seasons back of korda hooks snapping on me. Not just one packet but from three different packets After three emails from me including pictures of said hooks,I did not hear a thing back from the great Korda. All I was expecting was an email back acknowledging that there may have been a problem batch and that they would look into it. So from then on, I have lost totally respect with Korda as a company. I have not and will never give that lot another penny of my hard earned cash. Shame that their customer service department and quality control department, does not work as well and mean as much to them, as their marketing department. Quote
lennyofleyland Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 allways use the wide gapes for zigs in a 10 and for bottom baits in size 6 or 8.never had a problem with them apart from the odd one being blunt, good sharp and strong hooks that go in and stay in, in my opinion Quote

Id be well peed off with that for a pathetic excuse, thats just insulting your intelligence Quote
