tombell Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 What are the best type of hooks for big carp - what brand and size? Does barbless make a difference? Tom. Quote
humpy Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 nash fang size 7 or 8 or muggas and korda wide gape 8 or 10 barbed makes a difference to your hook hold:D Quote
goggyturner Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 fox series 1 or 2xs. I dont like muggas cos of the shape, they often come out of the fishes mouth without pricking them, in my opinion Quote
humpy Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 mate hav't lost a fish on the muggas yet :D Quote
carpercraig Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 i currently use ESP raptors.using sizes from 10-6.At the moment i have no reason to change the hooks are very sharp, strong and have never let me down Quote
jakey Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Nash fangs or carp r us short shank nailers are my favourite choice. Quote
tigernuttom Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Im pretty aranoid bout ma hooks being sharp and i thought the raptors were shocking when i did all my usual tests and that got blunt very quickly if not blunt alredy. I also think this of the muggas but peeps are giving both these hooks rave reviews?? Have i gone mad?? lol!! I jus dont think they is sharp enuff, i now use da korda widegapes B in 10's and they are sharp as ******************!! Tiger:( Quote
courtz Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 either the drennan barble range, or for surface fishing i find the drennan carp method ones pretty reliable, and have had to bully an 18lber from a weedbed and the hookhold was great, never had one pull or move around causing mouth damage, and all that for 99p a pack!!!!!!!! Starting to loose my faith in esp hooks, but still think other gear is pukka courtney Quote
chapper77 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 for open water i use muggers in 6-8s. for pop ups i use korda wide gapes in 4-6-8s depending on size of bait. and for snags i use the g.points in 6s and for weed i use one of the new fox range, look out for these there v good! Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Carp-R-Us Nailers, Longshank Nailers, Drennan Super Specialists and Specimen Hooks. Barbed vs Barbless, have a look at the Thread of that Title in Advanced Carp Fishing. Its a personal thing that is decided by yourself and the Fishery Owners. Quote

carperdude3d Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 korda wide gape and i ran out afew weeks ago and ive found carp r us longshank hooks are good to and sharp Quote
carpster0 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Korda wide gapes are very sharp but blunt so easily I find. Im now trying the Pallattrax "THE HOOK" a short shanked hook, the hook holds have been exceptional. Quote
trees Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Korda wide gapes are very sharp but blunt so easily I find. You wanna try ESP Raptors then mate, they are sharp but the hook point will blunt on soft silt. Quote
mick1396 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Gamakatsu G-Hard,they are a bit pricy, but are well made and will not blunt, reckoned to be 5 times stronger than a normal hook. For a cheaper regularly priced hook, try the Kamasan B 775,another superb hook. Quote
elmoputney Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 drennan super specialists for floater fishing wide gapes for barbed, barbless im still undecided on which is best and i will try the g hards when i remember to get some :D Quote
