JonK Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago I have just moved and have a pond full of Carp and Rudd. 2-3 very big. Probably 20 in total of various sizes. In the Tollesbury area. Essex. Must have transport and means to remove them. Quote
commonly Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Mate, sorry, but you can't just give fish away like that. You should speak to the environment agency about your situation and act accordingly. Good luck Quote
InteraX Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Hi Jonk. Are you talking about a small garden pond for decoration? What type of carp are these? Are they Koi (ornamental) or mirror/common carp? If you have ornamental fish, there are probably different rules (speak to a Koi retailer), but if you have normal common/mirror carp, then the rules are covered by EA/CEFAS. Another place to look at at is to google 'moving ornamental fish from a garden pond'. There is some guidance from specialists there who will probably gladly speak to you about the requirements. Good luck. Quote

As long as it's not a commercial activity (i.e. fisheries) its perfectly legal to rehome carp and koi etc. Obviously can be risky due to biosecurity but perfectly ok legally. Edit: They're basically pets so same rules apply. Edited 1 hour ago by yonny Quote
Roughtor Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago My father ,was a BCSG member ,it was very common to move home bred Koi around various members ponds if they liked the colours or patterns ... But last yr ,and I found out who it was ,a new villiager emptied his pond ,that's blue orf,and lots of brown gold fish into the local pools ,day ticket they didn't live long and any parasites ,diseases could have ruined the existing carp, rudd, roach and so on ... If your fish are going into a private ,backyard pond ,don't worry about it.... Quote
