OldBoy Posted Tuesday at 09:45 Report Posted Tuesday at 09:45 Haven't used hemp seed for a few years now, became to expensive and quality seemed to drop too. I am now using my own spomb mix, over method feeders, was very impressed how the buckwheat 'resembled' large hemp seed when cooked, might be worth a try for others on here? yonny, salokcinnodrog and kevtaylor 3 Quote
kevtaylor Posted Tuesday at 15:05 Report Posted Tuesday at 15:05 I'm using up some old hemp, maize and tigers this year so once it's gone I'll have a look at that 👍 Quote

Hemp quality has definitely dropped. It is smaller, harder to split and just doesn't seem as effective. I love standard birdfoods, although the additional aniseed ones are even better. Buckwheat is a good choice mixed with crushed maize and birdfoods. Quote
emmcee Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Buckwheat has very low oil content and in my mind its the oil content that in hemp that makes it so good. Buckwheat to bulk out a particle mix yes but not to replace hemp , for me anyway. Quote
