Catfish in winter?

I know this is a carp forum but I need your help as a few friends of mine are fishing a cat and carp water over the weekend d and have invited me to join them. Which got me thinking do I don't I. Now I know carp shut down when it gets really cold and what not but what about the cat fish do they react the same or in a complete different manner? So if anyone's fished for cats during winter and got and advice would be great.

Agree with all replies. Cats are not often caught during the colder months although you might want to try using liver as your bait.

Have you used liver before as I tried it once but didn't have any luck but how ever I threw in what I had left at the end of the session to return the next day with someone in that swim claiming they were hooking cat but not catching them.

Do you use chicken liver or lamb

See with them being predators I always thought they were like the pike and come alive this time of year as we are now in pike season. But you guys are right, I've been doing a bit of research and they said the same thing that they shut down over winter.

So here's my next question fishing this venue a few times before struggling to pick out the carp from the cat would now be a better time if they shut down worse than carp or would it just make it harder for both as if it only going to make things harder ill rather just fish where I've been fishing and catching as at the moment the only thing drawing me in is that my friends are going and there's a better chance of catching a bigger fish

As already mentioned with the onset of colder weather both species become less active but I think it would be fair to say if you get any indication at all the odds are it will be a carp.

In my experience your chances of getting a run out of a catfish after about October are similar to your likely hood of becoming pregnant lol.

Cheers

Ian

But do any of you guys think or believe if you find a load of cats shoaling up like I have seen them do on a friends fishery, you drop a bait bang on in amongst them your going to get a take cos surely they still have to feed during the winter or do live off their fat reserves?? And with liver which do most cat anglers use chicken or lambs liver??
