scoobydan_84
Hi all, looking to go for a week in france next year with 1 or 2 mates.will be first time so havent really got a clue how it all works. Were looking for somewhere thats a kind of a runs water with like 20s,30s and mayb 40s and a smallish lake, nothing to daunting for our first trip.will also be looking for a all inclusive deal with food etc. Also we would prefur like a meet and greet at ferry port in uk so we can take all our gear to port and dont have to worry about driving over in france. Iv been looking at loads of old threads and etc and like the look of moorlands and rushes lakes but do they do pick ups etc? Also closer the lake to port over their the better!! Any advice is a help!!
leggs007
Driving in France is very easy and most roads are flat and decent Rushes would be ideal for small number of you food is fantastic But if you get a ferry to Caen it's only 2-3 hour drive
cobleyn
As Mick says- don't worry about driving in France it's a piece of cake and you can consume hundreds of miles easily on their road networks. With modern sat nav it's just so easy- the French used to change their road names all the time, which could catch you out. But with sat nav there's no need to worry. Just make sure you put a tank of fuel in before you get on your ferry. The roads out there will usher you out of the port and on your way very quickly (ie avoiding the town centre) and it may be 50 miles before a fuel station. You may have left it a bit late for most of the popular lakes as they get booked up. If you are serious...you need to get phoning around now. I did review on lac de premiere a few months back. As its a new lake you might be able to get on there and it will tick all of your boxes (easy to get to, good facilities, lots of fish). There are quite a few lakes that do uk pick ups, like dream lakes (I think). Not sure how they all fish though as they get pressure all the time. Try and work out how good you think your angling is...don't assume that France is always easier. A lot of them see as much pressure as the lakes at linear so they aren't the bite a chuck lakes they once were
scoobydan_84
ok cool, well mayb driving is a option then and would probably work out cheaper i guess? so if we drove would ferry or train be easier/cheaper? we had thought about all the pressure the lakes get and thats why we would rather a samller runs type water to max out chances of catching. like i say its our first time so dont want to be going to a massave mega hard lake!were not under any illusion it will be 'easy fishing'. thanks

scoobydan_84
Well after looking at all venues a few times i think we have decided to go rushes lake. So my next question is what would be best way to get their?from what i can see a ferry to caen would get us closest to the lake so would be less driving in france for us. Think euro tunnel to calas is neally 5 hours away? Sorry for all questions but its so much to plan.
leggs007
I have done both trips to rushes one via Portsmouth to Caen that cost us about £400 in a van and we he'd to book a cabin as well.also 9hrs on the ferry so it doesn't save any time or expense, much better to go via euro tunnel and do the drive

The tunnel is very, very efficient and entirely affordable. I've also done Rushes twice and the second time, using the tunnel, was far more reasonable, cost wise. Rushes Lake is a lovely place to be and the food package really is to die for. If you go there please give Kim and Iain my best regards. As has been said, have no apprehension about driving in France. The highway system is very good and the standard of driving, particularly lane discipline, is much better than at home.
