  1. A45 is blocked up. No one is going anywhere I don't think. Hope he has enough supplies to last out another night if necessary. Only a short walk to Tesco though if needed. I got around the village this morning just about. Don't think I'll venture out further. Even if I added weight to the van it won't help. It's compacting so easy that it's just slippy everywhere.
  2. We've had like 4 inches in an hour this morning. Roads are blocked. Including dual carriageways. Grit didn't have a chance. Ploughs are out but I'm stuck in the village I reckon.
  3. It's as CM said. Can't really fish in there. Although the fish have been known to go in there when it's hot conditions so maybe they would when it's cold. Bait boat the ideal tool to get right in there as you could never cast inside it.
  4. Ooooo snow. @yonny are you alright mate?? Make sure you get some good pics.
  5. What any sensible fishery manager does is have a net, mat and sling in every swim. Problem being that things like KHV and SVC and even CEV (the latest one) will transfer on things like line, leads, hooklinks. You name it. Braid is the worst for it as water soaks in to it Then you have birds, can't net your lake can you. But a port of call is have fishery nets, etc. It will drastically reduce then chances of getting it. But how do day tickets do that? Places with huge turnovers and some of them a bit unsavoury.
  6. Get the anglers locally to promote good biosecurity. Put it on pages they can't take the posts down. Irresponsible owners is what it is. They'll be moaning when they get it when they could have stopped it. Look at @yonny water. A confirmed KHV not far away and the owner did the right thing... although the spray you have to use, well I'm sceptical about that.
  7. Massively. I imagine a lot lakes will be icing over.
  8. Just had a look at the weather for the week... this is mondays forecast! Don't fancy that at all. Fish will be rocked big time by those sort of temps.
  9. Hahaa. I'll just have to live down here. Just poked my head around the corner in to the deep bay. Ice in the margins on the shallow shelf. It feels about 2 degrees colder in that bay than where I am in the full sun. Gameplan being drawn up in my head.
  10. I can't wait to be snowed in at the lake! Steepish hills either side so a bit of ice and I'm stuck... not that I'd intentionally do that though.
  11. It'll be superb. I won't see it though. In the depression in the landscape it blocks the sunrises and sunsets. Just get a bit of it. Some lovely frosty rods shots will be taken though. Before I defrost my reels
  12. Hahahaa. Oh dear!! I keep mine in my sleeping bag when it's this cold. And my charger pack. My radio was in here too as that wouldn't work this morning!
  13. Just measured temp at -2! My tea went cold before I could drink it! ive changed a few bits around but all at the same time unfortunately which doesn't help. Testing a new bait, using crushed boilies to try hold them when they turn up when baiting midweek and then fishing over a scattering of boilie as I'd always done. I'll start baiting a few areas. Keep my options open. Cannot find them at the minute though. Even Mick the bailiff, who's been fishing almost every day for the last fortnight, doesn't know where they are! I have an inkling. The deeper water is likely to be marginally warmer for the next week or so now we have hit proper colder conditions. Any sun then the shallower areas are worth a check.
  14. Well I've had a good sleep. Seems like my prep work isn't working out for me. Maybe I've blown the swim? I've been picking off fish from here since September. Do I go with a new plan of action or persist with it?
  15. no reason to even if they could! More worried about that stag that visited Jim that time. Although a frosty morning shot of that by the lake wouldn't be sniffed at!
  16. Yeah I've heard them two. And a couple more from others. No dramas. I'm a big boy I can handle myself.... He says as he curls up under the covers!!
  17. Oh dear. It was the moon rising. Very orange. Must be the lack of leaves making it visible where it wasn't before. And branches dancing in the wind making it look like it's moving. Miffed why it's up so late though. But it's so bright it's blinding me now!! Never felt unnerved apart from the 3am visit from two people...glad they kept out my way. Old estate lake though. Many have drowned in the top lake. When I'm here not fishing and just baiting up in the dark it feels odd. Almost naughty and like I'm being watched by nature itself.
  18. Think there is one of these Chinese lanterns stuck in the trees opposite me. That or we got something very strange going on.
  19. Cheers mate. Bite time, most of my fish since October have come between 5:30-8pm has passed now. Always a chance when the rods are out though!
  20. Hot water bottle and one layer of wool socks mate. Insulte from underneath the bed chair. I have my hold-all under mine plus various other bits. btw lads. Just went to put water in the kettle. Ice inside it!!
  21. I always sleep with my door open. Or even the front rolled to the sides. Can't stand the door down unless it's really needed. Have just poked my head out the sleeping bag. It's arctic! The normal bite time has passed... could this be a second blank in a row? kettle needs to go on and maybe time to break out the hot water bottle to get every inch of the bag toasty.
  22. Always a chance to get out for a few hours on those milder days. If you can find the bite time you only need a few hours on the bank. I enjoy the good nights sleep away from the little'un. Think I had a couple hrs last night only so catch or not I get to get a good sleep!
  23. Warm in the sleeping bag and the kettle is on. All changes if you get a run. The adrenaline kicks in and you're warm for a good while afterwards. Personally I'll stop doing nights when I've found the winter bite time, if it's during the day anyway. It can be draining due to the cold but worth it (or I'm mad) as soon as it's icing over is normally a good time to stop though. I have seen some lad having his rod tips submerged thinking it'll help but it doesn't. Best thing I've seen was a beanie unhooking mat secured over submerged rod tips. Get a run and whip it off and lift the rod up (or play the fish under ice). I have done a day session on a frozen lake before, and managed to catch. But it wasn't very nice playing them so they smash the ice with their tails. Never again.
  24. Must be epic in the snow. I've just got horrendously cold winds and a bit of sun.
  25. Rods are out. Fingers are frozen. Two snapped baiting needles but I can tuck myself away and let the week sunshine try to warm the bivvy
