I know exactly what you mean tim, but this rig is usually tied with mono or fluro (look closely at the pic,eye end) so hence the need for a seperate hair well i may have invented a new knot for this rig , i'll call it the hacksaw knot, 'cause that's what you need to remove it

I've never tied this before so noddy question time The instructions on the website i found this on says " use a suitable knot" which is ..what, blood, granny, half hitch, rolling hitch, japanese bight, etc etc, one things for sure you don't want it to slip on the hook , so answers on a postcard or reply below

I'd normally leave 8-10mm from the bait to the hook, but that can change depending how you tie it. Two identical rigs below with hairs done for 16mm baits, hair extenders work to a degree but i find that awkward with hard or plastic tipped baits, solution, bait floss, cut a 5-6 inch length , pass through the hair and double up, put baits on needle, loop over floss and pull through, one will be on the hair, one on the floss, a few overhand knots and a baitstop if required, voila same rig ,double bait, snowman etc. If i'm using a heli setup, then the big eye quick change swivels are ideal (bottom of the pic) coupled with a A.T sleeve, This is also useful when you have a fish in the net, unclip the rig take the rod away then sort the fish out on the mat, saves trying to carry both if your on your own.

I use a lot of the coated suffix range, your right that silt is very wirey, not keen myself, odd occasion i'd use it for a boom section for a combi .

Worth getting some when you get a chance. 4mm silicone sleeve fits lovely

Try a chod hook, the swivel pressing on the out turned eye may achieve what you want.

Used most of the range bar the curve, but they are quality hooks, highly recommended

I don't do tidy, i eye in my hair length, and the overall rig size , it's functionality that counts for me. But i do have ocd for sharpening my hooks, plenty of scars to prove it

I brought my sleeping bag in after using it last night, was going to pop it in the airing cupboard, finished putting my gear in the shed and walked back in to this !!

Ok thanks for the input, i'd better explain my thinking before the pitchfork and flaming torch brigade arrive at my door The leadcore i normally use is 20lb, the stuff in the pics is 45lb which i rarely use. Firstly the inline, i use this a lot in my solid bag fishing, running lead (with or without the insert removed) on 1ft lengths of leadcore, works very well for me, Secondly the leadclip, i wasn't looking to drop the lead, my thinking was if i cast into a softer area and it plugged any , then hopefully the rest of the rig would remain flat ish and not be hooped up from the bottom. Amazingly out of my vast array of tackle bits i have no large run rings !! but just ordered some All part of the learning curve how ever old we are Atb jay

Just though i'd share this, apologies if it's been done before. Tying some leaders today for a forthcoming trip, using a size 8 kwik link spliced onto leadcore, ( not tight up though, left a couple of mil gap to allow movement ) As i wanted running rigs not fixed i simply slid a bead down near the link stopping the leadclip or inline lead engaging the link. This humble bead now gives you four options using the same leader. Fixed or running inline, fixed or running leadclip.

Stringer needle through bag , attach hook length, pull through, hook into the bottom, I'd probably only do it if under arming to a margin though, surely there'd be to much stress on the hook/bag for a bigger cast. Otherwise lead & rig inside bag, i do pre tie these, just write on bag what hook bait it contains

Is that a supple hook length or coated ? Do you use a pva stick to mask the hook. Feeling the lead down on a tight line should help the rig kick away (but how do we really know whats happened) My only issue is if that rig lands on anything soft and plugs, then the longer AT sleeve may be sticking up, potentially spooking fish away.

Nige, i think most knots are up to it, i just tried a 15lb coated braid with an overhand one end, perfection the other, neither knot gives, it always breaks on the straight, i did it with a rig and the hook straightened ! if you were giving it that much force i think you'd be pulling for a break anyway

Fair play for having a go, if you ever use fluro or even mono for a hooklength use that knot , you'll be amazed how much straighter it sits
