  1. How big do the Carp actually go in the bottom lake then? I'd always thought the bigger lumps were the in middle and top lakes.
  2. Have you fished Stream Valley much Doug? Oh yeah, and how's the back?
  3. Never fished it for Carp, but have chased the giant Perch there a few times. The bottom lake has twice held the British Perch record, and I think it might still hold it at 6lb 3oz. I think the middle lake is better for bigger Carp. The place was sold about a year ago and I think it's now managed through a tackle shop in Crowborough, at least that's where you make bookings, so I guess they'd also be able to give you a run down on the rules.
  4. Didn't catch much when I fished Tanyards, but they've got the biggest Rats I've ever seen! Not sure I'd recommend the place. Looks very artificial and man made.
  5. Check out the Gardner Suspender Controller. They look a bit funny but they work a treat. In my humble opinion, they give the best floater presentation possible.
  6. Hope you smash it lads. Keep us posted on how you all get on.
  7. Off there for a week on Sept 14th. Anyone else been there? Have had some good reports on the place but just wanted to know what people on here thought/knew about the place.
  8. Nice one, thanks. I'm taking it to read on my French trip in a couple of weeks, although hopefully I'll be too busy reeling in monsters to read all of it.
  9. Oh dear Gary, now you've gone and spoiled a lovely thread.
  10. A Passion for Angling is the greatest angling program of all time, and will never be bettered. Catching The Impossible I would probably rate second, although I do love the original Go Fishing series with JW. When I was a kid, I used to sit in front of the TV making notes during Go Fishing. I'd then try out what I'd seen next time I went. It didn't always go well but it was a massive part of my early fishing learning. How long before someone mentions you know what or you know who?
  11. I'm just about to start reading it, and wondered what everyone thought. Has anyone ever read the book, and does it have any relevance to modern angling?
  12. Most decent syndicates in Sussex have a waiting list as long as your arm, but check out White Cottage, they've got a website, and I think they're still taking members. Where in Sussex you based?
  13. Don't mind where we go, as long as it's close'ish to the motorway network. Linear might bvge fun if we could book a whole lake.
  14. Would you say it's the best Carp fishing book you've read?
  15. believe me if they think that I'm 18 their either blind or stupid Oh well, never mind. You should try Passies though.
  16. Hmmm, that's a bitch. Try Passies Pond, they might be a little less strict, or maybe just tell them you are 18.
  17. Yeah mate, there's a couple. If you want a proper runs water then I'd recommend Alderwood. It's about 10 mles outside Brighton and will produce decent doubles. Or you could try Swanborough lakes, near Lewes. Not exactly a hard water, but a slightly better stamp of fish than Alderwood. Both places do nights and have websites. Sussex is a little light on real "big fish" day ticket waters, but either of those could produce a 20. Personally, I'd go for Swanborough. Thanks a lot, any tips like bait or pegs? For both lakes Sure. Alderwood. Cell does ok there, but large cubes of Luncheon meat work really well, much better than any boilie for some strange reason. I fish em on a meat screw. I always chop up the cubes and leave them to dry for a couple of days. This toughens the surface so the silvers can't peck them away. Ignore the island, it usually only holds the small fish, and gets absolutely hammered. Concentrate on the margins, pads and reeds. Be quiet and you can literally pick up decent fish right under your own bank. The best swims are the corner swims, apart from the corner diagonally opposite from the entrance to the lake. The best corner is the one that’s next to the small lake with disabled access. Swanborough. Swannie is long, rather than square like Alderwood. The middle swims on either side are probably best. Again, the margins are amazingly productive, but you can also pick up decent fish in the middle. There’s an old submerged island in the middle, towards the wider end. If you can find it, it always holds fish, on top and around the base. If you’re fishing midweek and the lake isn’t too busy, try to get them going off the top. They don’t always play ball but when they do you can smash the place. There is a massive Grassie in there which hasn’t come out for ages. the best way to pick her up would be off the surface. There are ducks, but I always buy 3 loaves of the cheapest white bread, costs about £1 in total, and feed them senseless on the bank. Then they all fall asleep for a few hours. I always use Cell and Tigers there, and have had decent fish on both. I’d also definitely have one rod on a Zig. Hope that helps. Tight lines T

  19. There's always a danger of losing corn or maize to small fish, so if I'm ever fishing it on the hair I use one peice of real and one peice of fake. That way, even if you lose the real peice, you're still fishing.
  20. Have a great trip. Looking forward to seeing the catch photos when you get back. Shame it's not three weeks on the bank though. I was nearly very jealous.
  21. Welcome to the forum. A mate of mine is the bailiff there. I'll drop him a text, see how it's fishing.
  22. And I think the waiting list is closed at the moment, but there's enough decent waters in that part of the country. I'm sure someone on here can point you in the right direction.
  23. Is that the one run by The Carp Society?
