ianfrog reacted to adamkitson in Korda Distance Sticks
Cannot disagree with you there!
That said, a Jag bank stick sets you back nearly £30 a piece, when a stick from the hedge would do the same job. All about what you want and how deep your pockets are. Don't think I'd buy the Korda ones. Only cause I'd rather an extra bag of bait and the sticks I've got.

I tried reading that book, sadly it has over 1000 pages, and most of them are blank...

ianfrog reacted to adamkitson in Wychwood DPF line?????
Not sure if anyone else was backing it but I remember an episode of something rubbish that Matt Hayes was promoting it as the next big thing due to it vanishing in water due to the colour.
I don't know why people fall for it. A line that is coloured red or purple, when put into water the colour isn't visible, meaning the COLOUR vanishes, making it look exactly the same as a clear line.
Didn't Nash do a rather popular bait that was raved about for years in a nice purple colour, just saying.

Gents and Ladies please excuse my tardiness but I have had a little trouble getting my pics to play ball on photobucket.
Luddite tendencies I am afraid.
Anyway we paid our first visit to the estate lake that I had completely overlooked for years like a clutz.
Anyway a nice 1st visit with 6 fish to me 3 doubles and 3 twenties to a best of 26lb, and the boss (Froggy) had a 22lb as well.

I am afraid that bivvystreet has it spot on.
If you buy cheap or combo type outfits I absolutely know that if you get hooked on this absorbing hobby you will be replacing everything as soon as possible.
If in doubt get the best you possibly can and don't be afraid to go secondhand because if you don't fall in love with the fishing quality can always sell (after all you bought it ! )
As with cars bikes women and golf clubs quality always holds its value better.
Cheers

Decent brands include chub, fox, jrc, daiwa, shimano, wychwood for starters amongst others. Keep away from the £200 full set ups or you'll be back buying the gear you should've bought first.

ianfrog reacted to salokcinnodrog in Hook length, terminal tackle
The only coated or plain hooklink materials I use are Kryston, since the 1990's
Mantis, Merlin, Snakebite, and then Amnesia for combi or mono links.
As for hooks it is a choice between Gardner Mugga or Solar 101's for most bottom bait fishing.
Quite simply it is a case of they work for me, and if it isn't broken, don't fix it

He's planning a full series of them I believe all based on course species not just carp. He's not a half bad angler either.

Yeah well the Catfish will be asleep won't they and his takings probably ain't worth his while keeping it open just for the Carp which are difficult enough to catch in the a Summer let alone winter .
Personally I think that heavily fished venues such as that should be getting a couple of 2 week breaks a year .
Once as the Carp spawn and again later in the summer .
Would never happen though would it and we all know why
