1. Just in case it helps I have been pleasantly suprised with the new Chub pod with 5" and 7" chunky banksticks. Check it out and I would be interested in what yu think. Cheers Ian
2. For what its worth guys check out the Wychwood bib and brace I find with a fleece under my normal Carpy jacket I am toastie warm and my mobility isnt as compromised as when wearing a one piece suit. Cheers Ian
3. Holy cow £300 quid Wow. I know its a very well made piece of kit but I cant help wondering if you could find something cheaper (or secondhand) that would do the job just as well and then spend the difference on bait for example ? I am not normally a tightwad and use Rods by Freespirit, Delkims, Shimano (even Solar lol) Etc but I cant help feel that is a little OTT.
4. Gentlemen (oops and ladies) Has anyone got any experience with the "new" floorit fluorocarbon from Daiwa? I am seriously tempted as it is time to replace my Tiger line which I have been happy with but I cant ignore the price difference. As an aside I have a friend who tried the ordinary Floorit and he was reasonably happy with that but he never fishes at anything resembling range because of his local waters and he lives too far for me to nip round and have a chuck. Be grateful for any info. Cheers Ian
5. Hi Steve Autumn will be good. I had a good few out during August but only managed 3 twenties. Pleased I kept the losses down but can always improve. I look forward to Sept and Oct as I still believe they are the best months if the weather is kind. Cheers Ian
6. Yes Matt was involved with TFG but Lee did an article for one of the monthly magazines and was pictured head on with his rods fairly high clearly showing the colour of the line and he went to great lengths to say it would disappear first in changing light conditions. Cheers Ian
7. Didnt Lee Jackson from the Tackle Box in Kent get involved with promoting a red line a few years back that was apparently going to be the next big thing because it vanished underwater ? I may be wrong but I seem to remember it being marketed by TFG (what could possibly go wrong lol). Would someone please tell me if I am remembering wrong ? Cheers Ian
8. am with most on here when I say the Drennan is the best of a bad bunch. Contrevesially I have done alright with an old Fox swinghead which has been through many elastics and at least a couple of pouches but I like it and it gets me on the knuckles less than all the others (worth looking out for if any old stock still out there). Cheers Ian
9. Hi Adam I hate to play the old git card but I used to strip the black sheathing from "firetuff 2000" it was the cable we used to rewire the fire alarms for London underground and because it was silicone rather than plastic a metre at a time was easily doable, hard on the fingers mind. Sorry I ain`t a spark but I always kept my eyes open lol. Cheers Ian
10. At our age you are a lucky man lol ! By the way in case you are interested I hope you are doing well and the fish I just stuck in the tail end of July catches came from the swim I met you occupying at Steve`s social.
11. OK you may have a point but I would like to think that the principle stands lol !
12. I am afraid that bivvystreet has it spot on. If you buy cheap or combo type outfits I absolutely know that if you get hooked on this absorbing hobby you will be replacing everything as soon as possible. If in doubt get the best you possibly can and don't be afraid to go secondhand because if you don't fall in love with the fishing quality can always sell (after all you bought it ! ) As with cars bikes women and golf clubs quality always holds its value better. Cheers Ian
13. Hi Hutch That is a smashing idea. I hope he is able to get over some of the points we should be instilling in the youngsters following us on. Even though I don't have kids please pass on my thanks to him for doing this, I hope it goes well. Cheers Ian
14. Lead bag, Terry Eustace used to do a padded odds and sods bag (had mine 10 years plus and still good) Quiver, Both the wife and me use Trakker 5 rod quiver and sleeves bought separately when money allowed. Bank sticks, Stainless I`m afraid (heavy but as tough as cockroaches) but pricey Bobbins, Cant fault Gardner bug cradles for slack line work and I still have my blue osprey light up bobbins (tarty but I love em) Landing net, Mesh loose from Tackle box, Handle Daiwa Black widow (tough and light) Arms and spreader cannibalise your existing. Well that's my 10 pence worth I`ll get me coat Cheers Ian
15. Sorry dont appear to have the technical nouse to attach sketch. but in tieing it went something like. Knotless knot hooklink to hook lay hair along shank and past eye in the direction of swivell and trap in place with shrink/silicone tube. Attach pop up to hair and then wind lead wire to bend of hook to anchor to bottom. I believe the percievedadvantage at the time was that viewed from above the hook was unseen. Hope that helps. Anyway must go now and load car with bait etc, Back Thurs [/img]
16. Hi Guys I saw this and had to comment, There appears to be little new under the sun as I believe this has been tried before. If someone can check out an old Rob Maylin video called Harefield Haulin (I think) from approx 1989 I seem to remember he was trapping the hair with silicone and allowing it to exit backwards from the eye of the hook which was then weighted to achieve the same effect Cobelyn has shown. I seem to remember it didnt catch on partly due to hookholds outside the mouth caused by the hook snagging on the way in. Good luck with it I will be fascinated by your results.
17. Have you considered filling a bubble float or similar with water for casting weight which on splashdown becomes almost nuetral (check it out in the margins you will be suprised) a great presentation and should also become part of your stalking armoury because it sits on weed a treat. But as was said earlier be really sure you have 4 ft of silt all over before you try to get over a problem you may not really have. Good luck and let us know how you get on. P.S great presentation for deadbaits over weed in gravel pits (trust me on this one)
