  1. the trouble with doing this is you could mess up your presentation. Also using the chod rig could cause problems unless you know how deep the silt is. I would use a pop up , ballanced. use a running rig with a light lead say 1-1 1/2 oz max.leave the lead in the silt as this will help set the hook on a take.Use a flat pear lead with a braid hooklink of about 8 inch. The pop up will rise above the silt , works the same way as the chod but you dont have to set any beads. If that makes sense.
  2. My reason for using it is large beds of mucles in the lake i fish.If i'm fishing another venue then i use a 20lb flouro leader if i need to use a choddy. Bully32. If your venue is weedy then leadcore is the last thing you should be using. For a start it won't do the job its designed for and thats sitting flat on the bed of the lake.
  3. If i where you i would stick to mainline right through to the hook length. Unless there is a reason you need to use leadcore apart from "All the names anglers use it"
  4. Advising people not to use leadcore is not education. Instructing in its correct use is.
  5. A lot of people keep mentioning the needle knot. Have you tried the needle knot, do you know what it was originally used for.?. I would never use this knot or any other for attaching leadcore to mainline. It can and will prevent beads and clips from coming off the leader. The line should be spliced onto the leader so if your line does break there is a clear end for tackle to be safley ejected. Any knot in any line will weaken it so increasing your chances of a break. Also a line of no less than 15lb should be used with leadcore.
  6. Education not condemnation.
  7. Spliced to the mainline. No knots to obstruct end tackle ie, lead clips, beads. needle knot could stop these coming free so could the loop to loop.
  8. Very well put jonezy. On certain venues i use leadcore to great effect. Always set up with mainline spliced to the leader and a drop off lead.never use alooped leader. As for the lead clips i always have to cut the rubber down as i think that is the problem , the rubber is to long and can be pushed on to far preventing the the clip from doing its job.
  9. I'm not going into the whole leadcore debate as everybody has thier own opinion on its use, what i would say is if you are using it don't buy the ready made leaders, they are looped at both ends and will not eject rig componants.Buy a spool from esp, fox etc.You will also wany to buy a few drop off leads, these will come off on every take when set correctly. also splice your mainline to the leader do not use a loop in the leadcore as this can prevent rig componants being ejected.
  10. Just buy weighted tubing. Leadcore will only hug the bottom if the bottom is flat the same with tubing. You are better off using mainline straight through with putty or sinkers attached.
  11. bottom baits use a hair, pop up use floss, ballanced baits i tend to use the hair. Just my choices, they work for me but.
  12. I use these. Always have a few different weights in the box.Work well for me.The elastic in the middle is a good idea., no line damage.
  13. Great bloke doing great work with ECHO ,
  14. just got micky's book and robs , dont know which 1 to start with.both had great reviews on other forums.
  15. mgolightly said he was getting the hook turning back on its self, I was just suggesting it could be the knot slipping and causing it to turn on its self. Just something he could look at.
  16. If your getting a hook turn with the knotless, i would say check your knot . Try a piece of shrink tbe over the knot, or wrap the line over the turns once before going through the eye this holds the turns in place, if that makes sense.
  17. like nash said that happens, more so with zigs. keep at it mate .
  18. if your catching on a regular basis then you must be doing something right mate.I wouldn't fiddle to much if the rig is working for you.
  19. I use a fox rig board, just wrap them around it, get abot five on the board.
  20. Dont use any other rig but the standard hair rig. I do use a smll piece of tubing on the curve if im fishing a popup. This i find helps the hook to dig in when the bait is taken. Just a personal thing that i find works for me.
  21. beza is right , you can't pin the line down in weed. Also how thick is the weed. you could always lead around looking for a clear patch, thats your best bet with the snowman rig.or you could fish just on the outside of the weed if you can, that way you will be able to pin the line down and present the bait correctly. If you are casting in to weed your bait will not always hit the bed and you get line hung up on the weed. You could try a heavier lead and a sold bag , that way the lead will hit thebed and not lay up in the weed and the bag will prevent tangles or hook ups in the weed. Its one of those situations we all suffer from when fishing in weed. just trial and error mate.
  22. very well put , as usuall
  23. the tubing is to prevent tangles and protect the carps scales.I personaly dont use any tubing just mainline straight through to the hook link.again this is a personal choice but i find tubing to obtrusive,it sticks out on the lake bed. i know you can buy tubing that is camo ie silt, weed coloured but its very hard to match up to whats on the bottom.but as i said thats a personal choice ,so thats up to you to decide.
  24. the basic running rig should cover most situations. its also a quite a safe set up.
