  1. I would stay away from the main carp lake if you were looking for a quick day session. I would stick to the main lake that holds some nice fish. They have a lot of match fishing on there and I would go about fishing it using not so much carp fishing tactics but base my approach on more of a match style Edit - That relates Trinity Waters by the way
  2. Just found these 2 pictures that coops posted on the social thread....
  3. Although I had a few, they were all small fish. I think it was only one, maybe 2 over (just) 10lb. It is a really nice lake and, as you say Kev, one for the future and has bags full of potential. Wasn't there a couple of pictures of nice fish from there in a mag just before the social? I think someone posted it on the ARC social thread?
  4. You have an idea of where they are. You have been told that they are by a tackle shop. My first port of call would be the tackle shop - after having a look around in the area. Google maps can be quite handy as well Are you local to Highbridge?
  5. Was it A1 pits that those fools had that video filmed at a while ago on here?
  6. Maybe we will meet soon - if we have not already! My plan for the winter is to fish Ham due to the ease of car to swim transportation along with lack of time (having to pull off early every Sunday morning whilst getting there late Saturday afternoon)
  7. I had a thought and a look at a rig whilst I was 'playing' about with my pop up rigs in search of one that was able to hold in the majority of takes on the lake I was fishing. When using a rig ring, I was having trouble which sounds like you describe - the hook pivoting at the wrong place along its shank? My solution to this that may work in your situation - but not on the lake I was on was instaed of having a ring stop on the hook, glue a small pice of foam on it. After adjusting bits of the rig I settled for a cut off from a fake sweetcorn which needed less glue (almost not needed at all) and as I was using a yellow bait it was neat on the eye (not the most important thing I know)
  8. Taken from another thread on D rigs:
  9. http://www.rakerlakes.com/ I was told about this lake not so long ago whilst talking to an old friend on facebook. Her husband travels there from Shropshire on a regular basis. Got to be something in that statement? I think it was Kingfisher lake that she said he fished which looking at the website seems to be the specimen lake on the complex. As for first hand knowledge , then I unfortunately fail.
  10. I thought I was correct, but I have just had a look through my planner on sky+ to confirm. In an episode of carp crew, Kev Green has a session on Weston Park whilst doing an episode on partical fishing with Bryan Jarrett. It's one of the better Carp Crew episodes and could be worth a quick look before you go It was Jemsue5 that triggered the memory when he mentioned the depth. Kev Green wades out to bait his spot with a spoon.
  11. Those Korum quickstops are, I think, designed with the match man in mind so that they can change or re-bait at speed. Most of the time when carp fishing you are not against the clock In the case of 8lb line not being up to the job - that depends on the quality of the line in the first place. As Kev has mentioned, big fish can be landed on low breaking strain line. Infact if you ask a lot of people what line they use in the winter you may find a lot drop down to around 10lb (if safe to do so) to fine down there approch
  12. I wish I could get out on my own! I still have no floor in my bathroom or kitchen, the hotwater tank has decided to pack in, the dog has bust down 4 fence panels (which I can't replace until the weekend as I can't fit them in the car ) and to top it all off, I have a lake that is only 100 meters from my front door (the deciding factor in buying the house as I had a pool very close to the old one) and it's flooded so I cant get to the area where all the fish have been hugging for the last 2 weeks It's as if they knew what was coming Edited because I new I couldn't spell!
  13. Sorry for the suggestion, I didn't realise you wanted us to tell you how to fish the lake, what rig to use, what bait to use how much to feed etc. I forgot that carp always feed exactly the same every day; the same bait the same amount and at the same rate Edit Just a quick look at there website revealed, in the catch reports, that a lot of bait is needed to hold the fish. I could always ring up RH Fisheries for you and ask the questions?
  14. Go on the RH website. There is a video swim guide on there
  15. I think the first thing for you to consider is to get it out of your head that all fish feed in the same way For example, some may be suckers and some may pick at the bait.
  16. Hello and welcome. I don't fish there but I have heard a few good stories from 2 lakes near to Huntley
  17. All depends on how buoyant the hook bait is. The more buoyant the more likely the need for a counter weight, be that a split shot or putty etc. If using the silt rig then you wouldn't have any need to put a shot on the hook link
  18. I use a D rig for my pop-ups if they need to be more than 1 1/2 inches off the deck. Anything that is popped up lower than that, I use a rig that is similar to the 'KD' rig that all the Korda boys keep plugging. The reason for this is so the hook is either flat on the lakebed or hovering neatly under the bait with the point clear. I don't want the point of the hook bouncing around on the lakebed especially if fishing over gravel. The reason I don’t use a D rig for a bottom bait is mainly due to the fact that my simple knotless knot rig (no shrink tube or aligner as I use a curved hook ) works perfectly fine. If I did feel the need to change over then I feel there are better rigs for presenting a bottom bait than a D rig.
  19. Ah that was my question is it better to use braid or monofilament? or is it personal preference? well there are positives and negatives to both of them from what i remember they are : braid: moves around more naturally and will go into the fishes mouth easier, but is more prone to tangling mono: less prone to tangling but moves around inthe water less natural and i think is slightly harder for the fish to pick up unless it some in at the right angle i may not be 100% right with those points but i think the stuff ive said about the braid is correct Or you could get the best of both
  20. Was the reason you didn't catch the actual rig or could it have been the bait or even that there was no carp in the area
  21. If I knew that my rig was effective on the water I was fishing, I would consider changing my bait (size, shape or the bait itself etc) before my rig. I did 3 nights last week with only one fish from the first 2 nights. I was getting a few false indications / aborted pick-ups. I changed to an 18mm bait from the 14mm I had been fishing (was baiting with both sizes along with chops) and had 6 fish during the last night. The first coming just 10 minutes after changing bait size. I knew the fish were over my spots as they had been crashing almost constantly through all 3 nights over my bait.
