I will be honest and say I havent read any posts in this thread but I did read the title and my fave winter rig is exactly the same as my spring, summer, autumn rigs. In other words if it aint broke why fix it.
-
Agreed sometimes they will make the pads especially if they kite during a fight. If fishing up to pads I will always be fishing locked up and they wont make it in there then. As for banning leadcore Its upto the individual lake owner, on some of my waters its banned on others it isnt on these waters you are really hoping that the anglers use it as safely as possible and that they know what they are doing, the thing is they dont a lot of the time. Me I dont think its safe so I wont use it end of story.

I try not to let fish take me into pads but I have never really had a problem with cut offs but when snag fishing like that I will use heavy main line and with a steady constant pressure they usually come out ok. As for gravel bars I use three foot of tubing and dont really have a problem there either although living where I do gravel pit fishing is very rare for me.

What can I say that I havent said beforeon here nothing Im afraid. Leadcore is nasty stuff and isnt safe to use as even Nick a long time user of leadcore as found out. It isnt safe on a helicopter rig either especially if your water contains lots of silk/blanket weed which can clog up around beads, knots etc to such a degree that the rig will not come apart. In one of my syndicate waters we removed 5 20lb+ fish that were teathered to snags in one year and all were on leadcore leaders. To be honest the TFG, korda ones can suffer with the same problems and arent really the answer. As Ive stated before I only use tubing which is just as good and hasnt cost me fish, I have yet to be outfished on my waters by anyone using leadcore so I really dont see the need to use it.

you will struggle around there for a decent syndi, you could have a look at rosehill on the A41 thats a syndi other than that how about some of the stoke waters SOTA have some good waters. -

That sounds like the club they are based at Brewood which is just out of wolves. Some of there waters are Belvide (massive water) and Chillington hall a nice carp water. To be honest mate I dont think they are to keen on the carpers and getting in can be a nightmare. A mate inquired this year and he knows a few members and he was told at least a 4 year wait. -

Are you on about Brewood angling club in Staffs, if so you need to be nominated and seconded and at the moment there is something like a 4 year waiting list. -
If you read the other thread right through you would see how to set up a sub float safely with no chance of it being a death rig.
-
Its a big fish rig dont use it on doubles/runs waters.
-
The main problem I see with it and other leaders such as the korda/tfg etc is that set up they seem perfectly safe and will come apart on a line breakage. However in the big bad world that isn't always the case especially if a lot of fine weed such as silkweed is about. This has a tendency to ball up and clog around all rig components, knots etc preventing the rig coming apart as it should. I have seen the results of fish tethered by leadcore on one of my syndicates in the past with the loss of 5 good fish in one year and since then Ive never used it and I never will.
-
Put it this way Nick it wont be the leadcore anyway I better not get started on this one as I really hate leadcore with a passion.
-
Try weighing one metre of the heavy duty esp anchor tubing and then 1 metre of leadcore and tell me which is heaviest.
-
Nice one mate I'm looking forward to it.

Alright Del hows it going, just couldnt help myself either mate.

3 inches you may as well have it all stripped! The carp will be laughing at you! You really aint got a clue have you mate. Why not strip it back 3 inches it will give you a bit more movement at the hookbait which can help the hook turn better. If you are using pop ups you can strip it back 1,2 or 3 inches and have your counterbalance weight on the spot its stripped back to. I use fox cortex alot with 12/15 inch hooklengths stripped back anything up to 4 inches and I catch plenty of good fish. As for the carp laughing at jake I bet they aint laughing as much as I was when yet again on here I read another stupid childish remark.

Dudmaston Hall nr Bridgenorth

The carp arent massive but there are some big tench and pike in the water. -
Paul I know that you had 5 doubles upto 13lb mate but look at what is happening now and what everybody else is saying about it on all the forums now. It is crap if you want to spend £20 for 24hrs of pastie bashing then its great but the fish they state are in the water just aint coming out. When we were up there 20 anglers had 2 double figure fish and they say there are over 1000 in there come on mate what do you really think. I had 6 fish one about 9/10 lb and the rest were no bigger than 4lb.
-
Paul, yes they will lose weight but to drop from doubles up down to 4/6lb just aint on mate any carp losing that much weight would be very dead.
-
Good luck to you mate all i can say is this, no way would I pay £30 to fish from a wooden hut and then be told I must use there boilies this is the worst type of noddy run carp water.

Loop to loop.

Along with the esp clips I have also never had a problem with the new fox clips discharging the lead due to the peg that fixes the clip to the swivel. For me these have been 100% effective and they have lost the lead on every fish I have taken using this setup. In weed losing the lead is the most important thing to make landing the fish easier. To me losing a lead is of no importance compared with landing a carp, yet to some people the though of losing a lead and having to spend 50/70p on another one seems to be there main concern.

I use PVA tape as I find it dissolves a tad quicker than compressed dissolving foam. I dont compress my pva foam I just stick it on the hair before my boilie and then just stick another piece of it from the other side of the hook shank to this first piece with a quick lick. I use the cc moores foam and find it disolves quick enough when used in this way.

Spot on Neil, where this trend came from to place silicon to hold the hair right down on the bend of the hook is a mystery to me. All it does is stop any separation between hook and bait and as you say all that happens is the hook gets blown straight out with the bait. Sheep spring to mind you know what I mean easily led and all that. Personally I would start with at least 1/2in hair but I usually use at least an inch. This year due to the type of waters I fish I have only had 20 carp but Ive not had a hookpull or missed run yet.

That's fair enough but how can you make such a preconceived sweeping statement without having used ever used the rig seems crazy. It's like me saying Harrison rods are rubbish,I've never owned one so what so upon what am I making that presumption, hearsay?? What I've read in a mag??My "essay" as you call it was posted because it is impossible to make a claim without backing it up with some sort of understanding or reasoning. There are drawbacks with this rig yes with regards to both what size fish the lakes stock hold and as Jez says the part the longshank hook plays.I don't use curved longshanks at all,I can't abide them preferring either Muggas or Short Shank Nailers with this rig.The double hooking only occurs with the longshank hooks and with the above patterns this has been totally eleviated.I even know some anglers who use the longshanks but then again I know they're conscientious enough if any damage occured to bin the rig straight away.Like I said I personally would actively encourage any water which banned Fox Series 5 or Longshank nailers. Jez,as I said I don't possess a curved lonshank hook so with the shorter shank patterns the "nasty" side that everybody seems to have jumped on the bandwagon to outlaw this rig doesn't exist.I don't use this rig a great deal,I have no need and for anyone to suggest that I'd use the rig if there was the slightest shred of evidence of any damage caused by the way I use it obviously is grossly misled.Like I said in my previous post my findings have come from a variety of waters/fishing situations bouncing off of others over a number of years. My mistake for not reading your reply properly Neil, as you say with a short shank hook it isnt as bad but to me there is still to much going on and to much steel with the rig.
