  1. Problem with cudmore is that there are loads of little tiddlers in there too. Great if your just going for a bend in your rod, but if your after anything of any size then your in for a bit of disapointment. Colin Yeah i agree. When i went to go fishing show there last week i looked at carp lake and they was topping like phirannas for the dog biscuits and alot of them was single figure fish. Looks good for few runs though
  2. Not really as he said he switched the snakebite to mono and then caught 2 fish, so im guessing he had rod in same place. I think snakebite pretty rubbish to be honest. Its really thick and stands out like a sore thumb. But i imagine you caught because mono is less visable than snakebite. Keep it simple and just concentrate on watercraft.
  3. Yeah last time i went it was something like £28 for 24hrs so its probably more now. Nice fish but not very nice lakes
  4. Well ive fished the canals now for about 4 years and not once have a been asked for any money lol. 10 years ago there was matches on the canals every week and people used to own all the stretches but now i think they have moved onto the commercial lakes. The one canal by me says that an angling club owns it and its £5 per year but ive still not seen anyone to buy a ticket off. I'd just fish it mate unless theres any signs saying private. The only stretch i know thats private is in huddlsford near whittington and thats owned by the BAA.
  5. Yes there are carp in the canal by hopwas mate. I've not fished there myself but i know they get caught there. I've caught them out the coventry canal in nuneaton and also by fradley, nothing massive biggest probably 15lb but there are 20s about. Let me know if you fancy doing a session sometime as im not keen doing nights on the canal on my own
  6. All i do on the river is thread feeder on mainline then rubber bead and then tie a swivel on. Then i just tie my hooklink to the other end of the swivel and thats job done.
  7. Is it any good there mate? I looked around it about 8 years ago and i remember the one lake had lots of little islands and stuff. I've never fished it though.
  8. The lake behind snowdome is borrowpit. Theres also riddings down the a5 in grendon. Sheepy Magna a bit further down A5. Cuttle Mill by the Belfry, Bonehill Mill by Drayton Mannor. Theres also another one by Belfry called Grounds Farm i think it is.
  9. That seems fine to me mate. I take it your putting the lead over the tubing and then a bead either side of the lead? All you gotta do is think if a fish snaps me what will the fish be trailing around. And all you want really is the hooklink with no lead attached to it. But in all the years carp fishing i dont think ive ever been snapped fishing on the bottom.
  10. Have you got any photos of the lake? How come you had a complaint from neighbours? was you letting the argos brigade night fish it?
  11. How far is your stopknot away from your lead? I've not fished with one but from what ive seen they have it a good 20ft away in about 5ft of water. Then on the cast your hooklink should in theroy slide over the knot and i would imagine the float stays below the knot and cocks on and angle when you tighten upto it. Is there a special way to cast? I would of thought a low punch may make it slide up better, i dont know though. Sorry i cant help you more.
  12. You only have to watch some of John Wilsons rigs in his TV programmes to agree with this Paul. I saw him use his "shock" rig on an old estate lake and the lead was tied on with a so called "rotten bottom" straight to the mainline. If the rotten bottom didnt snap, they was no way that the lead would discharge from the mainline after a break. He also put on 2 SSG shot about 1 and 2 foot away from the rotten bottom knot on the mainline to act like a backlead. If any of us tackled up like that nowadays we would get shot. Yeah you see him do some right daft stuff. I've got a Liam Dale Dvd here that my dad got me from carboot and im not sure how old it is but i imagine its a few years from looking at the tackle. But on that hes standing up with carp in his arms and carrying them back to the water like it. How they hell can someone like that be allowed to make and sell fishing videos when they havent got a clue. I've seen the same happen at venues still today. If i was a lake owner and seen that they would be off straight away.
  13. I would imagine lots and lots of people still used dangerous rigs back in the day. It's just that the internet and things like that wasnt around then so you never heard about it as much. Also back in the day unhooking mats wasnt used so probably alot of people didnt really realise that their rigs was dangerous. Because if they have the brains to rest a fish on solid ground why would they have the brains to use a safe rig? You only have to watch some Kevin Maddocks videos or simular to see what i mean. Also there are alot more rig parts like you say now and alot of people dont know what to do with them.
  14. I've got one but its never got any credit on it lol
  15. If it was my lake i would ask to see at least 1 rig on their rods. Alot of the time its people with all the gear that dont have a clue. When i was younger i used to think, look at all his posh gear he must be good. But now i realise i dont matter what gear you have got, if you cant put a rig on the end correctly all that posh gear is no good to you. I would also imagine that most of those rigs are from instant carpers. If they took the time to start fishing with a float rod instead of jumping in at the deep end they might learn more from their fishing.
  16. There must be somewhere better thats closer to you? I live about 25 miles away from it and not felt the urge to fish it yet
  17. Looks nice mate Look at this view
  18. I dont do it just for the blowback style i only really do it so it keeps the hair coming off the bend but without the extra weight of tubing.
  19. I dont use tubing i tie a knot in the hair but tie it to the shank of the hook at the same time. This creates sort of a blowback rig and when i catch a fish the knot it pushed up against the knotless knot. All i do then is gently ease it lose with my baiting needle and then slide knot back down shank.
  20. Chap i know has been fishing pit 5 and had a 33lb common and a 19lb mirror.
  21. I've fished with it on its own with a zig and caught and also fished it popped up about an inch over a bed of particles. Never just cast a piece out on its own without freebies but people have caught like that.
  22. Well that lake is the one with probably the least in and mainly has bream and roach. Causeway or Pine is your best bet for carp, i would say causeway is the easiest but i heard some of the fish was moved into swan by anglers (not sure how true it is). Pine has got a fair few carp but the fishing is fairly hard and if relatives are fishing for small stuff you wont catch much. So for all round fishing i would try causeway, biggest carp caught i think around 28lb and full of roach and tench.
  23. Oh so you are just general coarse fishing for anything?
  24. Again as strange as it might seem I,ve never heard of any bream coming out either and there aint none in jeffreys swag which flows into it ! I,d agree with Paul with regards to it being heavily fished years ago and I can remember competitions on these pools and there was always anglers on here on a weekend cause me and my mates used to go over all the time and sit and watch them. I think this is what triggered my fishing habit today well that and a nagging missus For some reason when the opencast mine between norton and heath hayes was being dug a lot of brown sludge worked its way into these pools and it left a heavy dirty sediment on the bottom and it was around this time that the fishing seemed to go really poor on here! Its only been the last few years that the fishing on here has got much better and its now possible to catch roach and perch again. Last year me and my mate had a keepnet full of fish on the pole which is something you would not have done over the last 10 years or so! The only fish Iknow that reside in these pools are roach, perch, tench, eel, pike and carp. I also remember big bullheads and crayfish but these dont seem to have returned. Gingerpike from off here caught some bream last year and thats the 1st i've heard of anyone catching that i belive. I would imagine theres some nice big shoals of bream like dusbin lids. As for the fishing going poor i think the rare birds have got alot to do with it as there wasn't that many years ago, but as the climate is getting warmer they are coming over in flocks. The council should improve the fishing somehow because it did used to be a fantastic coarse fishery.
