  1. Have to agree with David1951 it is always worth the effort of emailing the lake owner to get as much advice from him (or her!) about bait, tactics etc before you go. Any lake owner worth his salt will be only too happy to provide any amount of information.
  2. There are numerous threads on Vallee Lakes if you use the search button I am sure you will find ALL the information you need.
  3. Well David have spawned here in later April for the last 7 years...., which is not unusual for our part of France. Maybe April is unusual for other 'northerly' areas...
  4. I am sure most of you have booked and we have already seen that 1 or 2 of you are REALLY excited.... so.... Where are you off to?... is it your first time?... are you going with a few mates? & what makes France such a great place to have a weeks fishing? Come on lads share.....!
  5. You should be excited! Have a great holiday, nothing like looking forward to a week fishing & chilling in a beautiful country!
  6. I am.... Bet you cant guess what lake I own tho..... As CarpQuarry said you will have a great time fishing in France should be all about chilling, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and any fish should be a bonus. Good luck
  7. Our experience over the last 7 seasons has made us realise that the 18 degree rule is not always the only trigger or indeed is it at all? Because our fishs first spawning has happened within a 10 day window on each of our seasons the water temperature during that period over all the seasons has varied from 13degrees to 20 degrees. We are of the opinion that there are many other triggers... maybe length of daylight? water quality? natural food source triggers? Moon phase? Maybe science has the answer. Agree with CarpQuarry though I think you should be fine.
  8. Great ferry offer from Dover - Calais £40 return includes Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays... http://www.ferrycheap.com/seafrance-offer.asp
  9. daryl23 has been to Mirror Pool a couple of times. It might be worth pm'ing him to get some info... Know it can be tricky but stunning whoppers.. Good luck!
  10. With all due respect CarpQuarry.... ClearWater is in Brittany and is nowhere near to being 'North France as near to Calais as possible'... Lets keep recommendations as near to brief as possible.. Right on track now.... If you are prepared to travel 3 - 3.5 hrs from Calais I think you would most certainly benefit from having a bigger choice from more 'quality' venues. I have heard great things about Genesis a fairly newish fishery which will suit you Im sure... http://www.carp.com/fishing-holidays.php or pm Gillcover
  11. I have searched again and there are no catch reports , no reviews anywhere, not even on the holiday companies website!. If you have definitely decided then good luck, though usually a good current recommendation is always the best way.
  12. I'd like to think I know of most of the commercial lakes here, but I must admit I have never heard of this one... Have tried googling it... no joy Has it been recommended to you? All I would suggest is doing more research before you commit. If you want to pm me the website I'll see if there is more information out there for you
  13. The offending post has been deleted as entirely inappropriate. Now back on track! The experiences of lake owners will vary because of the areas they are in. We, being in northwest France rarely freeze over during the winter and we do feed our fish heavily over winter hence our fish are at their heaviest late March and April. I think that the lake owner has been very honest with you after all he will not want you to go to his lake freeze your wotsits off, blank then come back and post what a nightmare you had!
  14. Sorry to hear of your disappointing past experiences... its a shame when you are looking forward to it so much. Glad though that you are giving it another chance. Good luck in finding your ideal venue.
  15. With a nice dollop of molasses
  16. Sorry to disagree with you treble BUT.... the anglers fishing guide is certainly NOT what you describe. It is a subscription service ( They have been trying to sell me a subscription) and the lakes are NOT recommended they are just lakes who have paid their money to advertise. OP there are plenty of waters, some which you will find on the 'sticky' at the top of this forum. There are plenty of waters that have had reviews which you can find on the net. If you dont want to drive far then why not give Genesis a thought or two... opening this year Eddie & Val will certainly look after you, I am sure with a few anglers giving reviews will see this lake as a good one!
  17. Looks like my advice wasnt needed Good luck on going to Moorlands LOL
  18. Welcome to the forum and as you wanted some help & ideas on costs hope this will help. First of all 95% of commercial lakes dont require a licence. Some lakes have bait restrictions but I would reckon 5 - 10 kgs boilies, 10 kgs pellets & the same particles, this will obviously depend on the lake concerned. Costs to take into consideration once your in France:- The further into France you drive the more it costs toll wise and I would estimate 10 euros per 100 miles on top of your petrol. Food prices in the supermarkets are more expensive although beer is slightly cheaper. If you can get a good food package for between 100 & 110 euros a week it is well worth having & saves trips to the supermarket. If you havent picked a lake yet I would make a shortlist of say 6 look on the net for reports of lakes, email each of them and ask them as many questions as you can, its an important decision. I am sure they would all respond quickly. Hope this will help Good luck!
  19. Hi slimy It might be worth starting a new thread as this will attract more attention and get you some help/advice. Also worth saying which of Bills Lakes...
  20. As far as I am aware Bertie & Le Mans are still being advertised for sale, so would presume they havent changed hands yet.
  21. Ouch indeed! Mr R is in the UK at present and due to return on Monday on Speedferries! Never mind... a bit longer peace and quiet
  22. 20's and 30's been taken off the top, topped by a 34lb cat this week how unusual is that! There is a report on this forum from notcatching about surface fishing here from a couple of months ago. Just to add that the holiday was donated a few months ago so had nothing to do with recent events. Hope it raises much needed money for your charity Shaun & thanks for the kind comments.
  23. Fished well!! The three carp lads had 23 upper teens, 41 20's & a 30. Fishing well this week as well... Stumps produced 3 20's & a 19 this morning in 20 minutes!!!!!!!!! for Jim & his 11 year old son Tom. Tom also managed to winkle out a 30 cat on Sunday.
  24. You will also find the nearest tabac to the lake sells them.
  25. Like I said earlier an absolute gem of a place Its great to hear what a fantastic week you had! Well done!
