Having same problem as you. Pretty sure my session to catch ratio was the best on my syndicate last year I certainly had the biggest hit of fish in one session and funny thing is for me it makes it even more depressing when you done so well and you say right I’m gonna keep this up right through the winter but then your slapped in the face with blank after blank month after month. It was easier on the mind before when I caught nothing whatever the weather🤣. good for you to look forward to what I think is the best time of the year, spring! In my opinion the fish seem to be a little easier to trip up. And also there are many people on this chat room who have reached out and helped me just like the 2 people who have already commented before me. It’s priceless from these lot I’m telling you. It’s going to be my first time taking my dog fishing this year. Anyone got any tricks of the trade or any tips for me I can learn before having to learn it myself ? I plan on bringing a big screw peg to chain him up to because he is up for wandering about. Bring his meals already portioned up biscuit and meat all ready to put in his bowel. I already carry excess water where I can. Have a dedicated bag for his bits and pieces, poo bags bedding extra few towels bowels. I have bought him a waterproof coat. Anything else I’m forgetting ?

Honestly people I’m on a winter syndicate ticket right and I just cannot believe the jealousy of some people. What the hell is it all about? I can’t understand it myself. 1 guy had it off in January this year it was his first year on the ticket. I don’t know if he cheated in any way or he was lucky or he is just an experienced talented angler. Anyhow he caught a few fish when the rest of us were struggling and end of day he has enjoyed himself so good luck to him. Know what I mean ?( some people are saying he used drone ) Even if he netted them I don’t care. I prefer to focus on what I’m doing not get all caught up trying to copy or discredit others. So he put his photos up on our whatysapp group as he’s not going to be fishing anymore this winter and straight away an angler commented saying these photos have been on Facebook for weeks. Then he commented again saying everyone has already seen them. He is right I had already seen them and I don’t even have Facebook but what’s the need to say this ? seriously someone help me here like what is that all about? Am I missing something? Should he not have put his pics up ? Last year this particular angler commenting blanked all winter but the winter before he caught what he claims was a lake record from the smaller lake on site and put his pics up so??? Is it me ? I have only just looked back through the chat and seen what he said just now so I liked all the pics the guy put up and I’m the only person who has. Then I look further down the chat and the same angler ( not the angler who has caught, the one leaving comments) puts up on the group that he has noticed someone fishing a swim that has been closed due to low water levels! This same angler breaks rules by using drones, fishing at night in areas which is not allowed and uses a bait boat when it’s not allowed. Like seriously people am I missing something here? I am quite naive at times so I wouldn’t be shocked if I am. how can some people grass on people when they break rules them self ? This can’t be ok I have nobody else to talk to about it so I thought I would again fall back to asking on here. I love this chat room I really do it’s like a life saver for me. the worst thing about it all is i considere this angler to be a mate and people on the ticket see him as my mate. It’s embarrassing to be honest. Any of you who have been in correspondence with me since I been on this chat room will know I only been back in the game for a few years so any reply I will appreciate and will learn from. It too claimed to have everything the dji mavic mini had but it didn’t. Maybe this one was faulty but we will never know. When something is wrong you can send it back. When this drone decided it’s going straight back to china we had nothing to give back 🤣

See the thing is when the drone goes out of control and disappears into the sky or smashes against a wall and is damaged most companies will blame you. I have the dji magic mini and for a beginner it’s easy as anything to use as long as you take your time and stay calm I have used it on loads of lakes and it’s still here with me going strong. My daughter was bought a drone which cost about £200 so we set it up and I started it thinking that because I am very good with my dji magic mini I would be able to handle this drone. I launched it it took of went into the sky and became impossible to control we never saw it again

Don’t worry guys I won’t be starting threads every time I hit the bank. Have just been interested with the wind recently and I learnt that ok the carp did follow a new warm wind after keeping off the back most of the winter although I doubt they dropped down into the depths they was there so I learned something, well I learned something about the carp in this particular lake at least

Sadly nothing happened for me last night but at least I followed through with my plan that I have been saying for months that I’m going to do and just kept putting it off. incase any of you haven’t been reading previous in this thread (I think it’s called thread correct me if I’m wrong) but I have been planning to leave all kit in the van until I have something to go on rather than just casting out where’s free with zero confidence. I will be doing this from now on it was such a buzz sitting there in the dark contemplating whether I’m wasting my time or not listening out for fish with no rods out and then bosh/splash/kadoosh whatever you like to call it. This time the shows were over deep water 15-16 foot I checked today. I should have had zigs all tied up ready before I even left home as I planned to or even should have tied some up on the bank and been more dedicated but tbh I was overwhelmed just to confirm a carp at all after many trips searching for hours on end for no reward. I had a zig out today but I’m pretty sure the fish moved out at first light because I had a flurry of liners for about an hour then nothing for the rest of the day so I was too late with getting ziggy. I said before I have no social media (I probably say this too much 🤣) I’m not one of them guys who walks into other peoples swims and disturbs there peace asking all questions and stuff so joining this chat room and having all you guys respond and give your opinions and knowledge has been amazing for me and I feel proper lucky to be on here. thank you everyone honestly I’m blown away with how great everyone has been

I need to improve my zig game it’s quite deep out in front of me

I am shaking right now, so I sat it out without casting waiting listening and just where I had suspected/hoped they would be and they are here, right on the end of these recent warm winds and far as possible away from the recent angling pressure. Im shaking because I’m not actually fishing my all year syndicate I’m on my winter ticket at Holme fen fishery in Cambridge and an absolute cow has just smashed out right in front of my swim.😀Now to make a plan.

I’m on the lake now been searching for 5 hours. Don’t know what to do this wind has been pumping down to one end of the lake for about a week now. gonna keep watching and maybe wait into dark to hear some boshing before even get any kit out. last resort I’m going to set up down the windward end and just camp it out

Possibly might start getting wary ? I have 1 fish left I wanna catch. Had some serious repeats 5 captures of 1 fish 4 of another and doubled up on a quite a few. I think I’m going to change the area I have been focusing on this spring because he should have come along by now. If I don’t bag him this season I’m gonna have to move on. Lake is murky so singling out a particular fish is extremely difficult. If I don’t have him this season I’m gonna have to move on at least for a while because life’s too short

Thanks for that reply. I learned from It. so I was on the bank Wednesday spent about 5 hours searching all the protected shallow bays that were being hit with the sun, climbing trees and couldn’t find a thing. Another angler turned up and got his drone up and just confirmed that all these areas were void of carp. The only place they could have been was on the wind and it was really choppy so the drone was useless but after ruling all other areas out they must have been down there or down in the depths which I can’t imagine they were. I’m curious as to whether it was because of the warm wind as you said it’s unusual for them to follow wind as we’re in winter but maybe this was one of them unusual times.

Yeah ingredients prices through the roof. Had a long old chat with my bait guy recently and I was getting onto him to let me buy his recipes and start making the same bait I been buying because as morbid as it sounds he’s getting on and it’s scary to think one day I may not be able to buy the bait I been using since I started taking my fishing seriously. Geezers a legend and he was honest with me and said if you wanna make the same bait as what I make you son it’s gonna cost you at least £4.50 a kilo to produce and that’s without any flavourings enhancers etc. basically dooming me thinking I could start making bait and selling it because yeah you can pick up 10kg mainline for like £60 I asked him why so much ? He said to me as an example dynamite baits claim to contain 12% protein and obv I said what does ours contain and he said we’re touching 40% on the fish meals. honestly I have seen this bait outperform in the next swim where my pal using another bait time and time again. I mean on campaigns. Prebaiting together etc. maybe on a day ticket the difference might not be so noticeable but as an example we baited about 3 times a week from the start of June up until the start of September( no fishing ) Not much bait only half kilo each each prebaiting mission and we both dropped in and started from a few days into September. Over that autumn I landed 12 fish (close to a third of the stock I’m told) and my poor mate landed 1 in the same amount of sessions, I lost 1 fish to hook pull at the net and 1 to a pike biting through the line and jumping out the water as I was playing the fish. Let’s just say he uses the same bait as me now. I had 7 fish on the first session and he blanked the lake is just about an acre in size. Last autumn I baited the swim he was in and dropped in and had 4 in 1 session so it wasn’t to do with areas they do get in there and feed where he was focusing on . quality bait costs we pay £9 a kilo now and we buy 30kg a time it was £8 a kilo a year ago and he has said the way it’s looking it’s gonna have to go up again soon. I said to him what about diluting it he said no way I don’t like change I would rather loose customers than change the recipe I been using for 40 years. bad thing is on this particular lake if you use particle or pellet the small fish swarm you and the pike savage you in response I have had 5pike landed and many more cutting through hooklink line etc since I been on there, so the best thing to do is just use boilie only nuts are banned and I prefer to not break rules of any kind in life in general

Thanks for your reply I’m struggling to grasp why a carp would ever want to be in the colder water unless it’s blazing hot summer where I have seen them group up under shade that they can find. There are so many variables it will be impossible for us to go through them all but I would love to learn what I can so if I can have a minute of your time I would appreciate that because I’m trying to get this chapter in my learning done and dusted. when you say you can’t rule out the carp being on the end of a bitter wind can you think of any reasons why they might do so? I want to start learning about thermoclines I think it’s called. Would this be something to do with what you mean? I’m no way trying to dispute what your saying about them choosing to be down the windward end of a lake when the wind is freezing cold but there must be a reason why this would be the case. possible reasons I can think of 1. Angling pressure has pushed them down there? 2. Natural food is down there and not in the protected areas off the wind? 3. The sun is hitting that area and not hitting the protected areas off the wind ? 4. The first cold winds that hit are still pushing the warm water deeper down up that way? if you don’t know I don’t blame you I have heard celebrity anglers say they have found carp on the end of a freezing wind and it’s thrown the rule book out of the window. Maybe I will never find the answers but to be honest I would rather listen to the opinions of regular everyday anglers than celebrity anglers as alot of the time I think celebrity anglers have hidden agendas. Ps. Im probably doing my own head in and everyone else’s too getting obsessed like this but I will never change I just had the best year in my angling and I’m going to carry on trying to get better and better. I don’t ask people on the lakes I fish anything only person I quiz up is my bait guy and I’m loyal to him so he owes me 🤣I prefer to do my own thing and try find the science behind it all. I would not be offended if you don’t reply it’s a lot asking someone you don’t know to take time out to read my ridiculously long essay reply’s 🤣

Is it as simple as this? Today the air temperature was 15’c a lot warmer than the water. Temperatures have been rising gradually last week or so. So the wind will be warming the lake. Is this when to start fishing on the wind? It’s a big pit windswept so it’s turning over Nicely. I know there are no rules but in general wouldn’t it be time to start looking on the wind ?

I’m the same I acquired the nick name the rapist on my syndicate because I’m often caught walking around in them disposable gloves. I wear them every time I handle the rig. also I have used Vaseline, and permanent marker, I thought ZR hooks was going to solve all my issues. The smell is unreal I don’t think people should be commenting until they have a whiff of it themselves. Honestly it’s shocking can’t imagine what it might taste like

It didn’t rust by the way which was great. At the time I had flu and couldn’t smell or taste anything so I gave the hooks I had sharpened and smothered with the stuff to a friend because we was both excited about the stuff prior to buying it. He was disgusted with the smell firstly and secondly I think I realised he’s not as keen in his own testing as me. I wanted to see if the smell left the hook after a while but he didn’t wanna go right into it like me. Obviously no reason why I can’t start again from scratch .I would have liked to see if the smell left the hook after a while. I would have rubbed my finger on it after 4 days and smelled and tasted it. If it’s the case that the smell does leave the hook I suppose I would be happy to use hooks that have been soaked for x amount of time but im still getting that little niggle of doubt like if a dogs sense of smell can be 1000 times better than ours what might a Carps be ? no way would I ever be coating the hooks and using them straight away. We all blank but if I was using this stuff on my hooks I would terrorise myself thinking that’s why. some of us go deeper into this stuff than others and I admit some of us may be doing our own heads in. You gotta do what makes you happy.
