  1. I've been thinking of upgrading my rods, but my budget is very limited, so I've found a few inexpensive rods that I'm asking if somebody can give me a opinion on. All are 12' 3Ib test curves I'm considering. They are: Nash KNX Colt Prologic C1 Fox EOS And the Daiwa Mad Dragon, which I think is the Daiwa Black Widow, but rebranded for the American market for some reason. Thanks in advance.☺
  2. I know fish much heavier than 29Ibs has been landed with even lighter line then that. I do tend to see that alot seem to favor 12 to 15Ib line for most applications.
  3. Thanks everyone, I've decided to go with the Merlin!
  4. I've been considering getting one of these. I asking what are the pros and cons of these two hooklink materials? Good abrasion resistence is a top quality I'm looking for. I certainly considering Kryston hooklinks because I tried their Jackal coated braid and really liked it.
  5. Yes it is. Still, I'll try to find some that doesn't have to be shipped to me, because I know the s&h for 50 pounds worth of peanuts would be very expensive, but thanks for the info, because that would be a good option as a last resort.
  6. Thanks everyone. I remembered I had a load of CC Moore sample packs I had got by buying alot of stuff from big carp tackle, but had forgotten. Some of the live system, xxx, and equinox. When I fished friday, had a live system on a rod, cast it out, and before I could finish spombing, one grabbed it and ran like crazy. Got it in and one other, and hooked a third, but the hook pulled. That was certainly a good first impression though. On the issue of peanuts, I would love to give peanuts a go, but having difficulty finding raw, human-grade peanuts in a bag of any real size. Only thing I found in bulk was for birds, and I know thats a real no-no, because of that fungus I believe.
  7. Oh I agree, particles catch more fish then boilies, though they have been days boilies have won out, though I was using mainly over flavored "attractor" boilies. But the problem with particles is that fish like bluegills, ironically nicknamed "bream", though obviously no relation to your bream, as well as small catfish are bad to get them off the hair, so thats why I've mainly switched to boilies, because they have a harder time getting those off. Though I sometimes have a combination of particle and boilie on the hair.
  8. I've considering getting some of the boilies by CC Moore. They are the shelf-life, as sadly, I cannot get the pre-made freezer version of any boilie in North America, only shelf-lifes. I also planning on using them mainly as hookbaits, as I cannot afford to get enough to do any real baiting with them, maybe just a tiny few. I'm considering a kilo in each type of CC Moore boilies, all in the 15mm size. I'm just asking before I possibly buy, how good are they in the shelf-life? Which types are good? Would they be any good largely used as a hookbait, other than the occasional few used for baiting?
  9. Seems risky to me, the part with ring could break off with a fish on, and they could injest it, possible internal damage and fish death.
  10. Stunning, bottom photo is my favorite.
  11. Standard BP-6 Dwarf BP-6 Looking on the net, the two reels specs look to be the same, but looking at the images of the reels, the handle is different at the end, plus the part (can't think of what you call it) between the line roller and bail arm is smooth and tapered.
  12. I've used Nanofil for other species, mainly with lures, jigs in particular, sometimes with floats. Its a good line, long casting and very sensitive. However, it doesn't stand up to rocks very well, requires special knots, and is bad to get wrapped around the tip of the rod, which cost me a rod once when I was hopelessly snagged and trying to break the jig off, and didn't notice that the very limp nanofil had wrapped around the tip.... Furthermore, while many braids, as well as fused lines like fireline, sometimes break above their stated breaking strength, nanofil will break at exactly what it states....or less when you factor in knots. Despite its flaws, its a good line, but maybe not the best line for carp fishing.
  13. I use a Eze-Lap diamond file. Its not expensive, works great, and doesn't take up much space at all in my tackle bag.
  14. Thanks everyone, I decided to go with the large Spomb, seeing as there is less flaws with it overall compared with the Impact. I also was worried that the place I would have got the Impact from may still have the older ones with the pin problem in stock. Thanks again for the advice.
  15. Thanks, I may give the large Impact a try then. Thanks again.
  16. I'm just wondering if they ever fixed the problem with the pin coming out. I've considered the Impact in the the past, but after reading about the problem with the pin, I went with the mid-size Spomb. I'm thinking of getting the large Spomb, but if the Impact's issue has been fixed, I may give it try due to it being easy to fill with one hand.
  17. Thanks everyone, I've decided to go with the Hydro Tuff in 15Ib, I'm confident it will help with the rocks and gravel often found in my local waters. Thanks again.
  18. Thanks for the comments guys, I think I'll avoid trying those lines for now. I was asking because I have two new reels and needed some line. I'm now considering Gardner's HydroTuff and Pro Light Blend, the HydroTuff mainly because the waters around my area have a abundance of gravel and rocks. Any opinions on these two lines?
  19. Does anybody have experience, or know someone who has with these following fishing lines. They are kogha Ultrafar and Carp Spirit M-TX. I saw these on the web and they both have 15Ib lines with small diameters(0.30mm), and I'm wondering if they are any good?
  20. Thanks, curves is what I mainly use. On a side note, are 3oz inline leads sufficent? Thanks again.
  21. Although this is likely not the best time of the year for them, I'm thinking of giving a bolt rig a try. I'm wondering, what style and size of hook would work best?
