mick1396 Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Try the Gardner Mugga`s or the Gold Label Penetrator 2,both really strong hooks, mate`s had Cat`s to 80 and 100lb on size 8 Mugga`s. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Ashima extra strong carp hooks you could tow a supertanker in with them, similar shape to a mugga and very sharp. Elmo I will sort out a link for you as they arent readily available will pm you later mate. Quote

salokcinnodrog Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 used the Carp-R-Us Barbless Nailers on there with no Problems, or I did remove the Barb on Nailers if you are on about the same Lake, with No Complaints from the owner. Quote
courtz Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 what about the gamakatsu g-hard hooks retailed under daiwa. they are so strong that equiptment cant even cut a barb into them, but they do cost £10 for a packet of 10. tight lines courtz Quote
elmoputney Posted April 23, 2006 Author Report Posted April 23, 2006 i just looked on the tackle box webbie and they are £11.99 for 10 on there thats over a pound a hook i dunno if i could spend that on hooks id be gutted if i lost one :D i will go shopping tomorrow and have a browse at some of your suggestions cheers guys Quote
chrispayne Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 They will never snap, and unlike other hooks, you can use them over and over and over and over again. Great hooks. Quote
richchappy Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 I have had no probs with fox 1b and gorda wide gape b but its personal preferance really Quote
elmoputney Posted April 23, 2006 Author Report Posted April 23, 2006 i wouldnt use fox hooks again tried them once lost a biggy whilst floater fishing(set up in an emergency) and when i checked the whole packet was blunt never again Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 I only use Owner hooks, never had a problem with them myself. Quote
trees Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 Never had a problem with Korda Widegape B's. Quote
keilhj Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 me neither id class korda wide gapes as a very strong hook never had one straightin out on me Quote
elmoputney Posted May 2, 2006 Author Report Posted May 2, 2006 i had 2 hook pulls on widegape b's last week gutted but it happens i guess although i never had it with the micro barbed ones i re read the rules and i am allowed to use whisker barb which to me translates to micro barb :D is that the same thing i have used owners before in barbed and they were good and im gonna be trying a few that you have suggested although if i can it will now be microbarbed just a confidence thing i spose:D Quote
dixons Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Never had a problem with Korda Widegape B's. Haven't lost a fish on them yet and have landed two 20's on them recently:D why dont you just shave the barb off your normal hooks??? Tom Quote
mick1396 Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 The G Hards are down to £9.99 a pack now instead of £11.99.if that`s any help. Quote
elmoputney Posted May 3, 2006 Author Report Posted May 3, 2006 cheers mick only 99p a hook now sounds a bargain although they do sound really good:D Quote
mick1396 Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 I bought some mate and they are an extremely sharp and well made hook, the eye is totally closed and well finished. The only thing to remember is that the sizes are larger than normal,so reduce the size you choose down a size. Looking at them I would deffinately suggest you get some,I`m going to try them out in France. Quote
coops_northants Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Elmo, i was told about G-Hards about a year ago. From what was said to me i thought they were great, when i found some and noticed the price my thought was they had to be very good indeed. With them being that price and still have people rave about them must mean they are great. You would be looking for reasons to slate them at that price, never heard a bad word said. Ashima do some ultra strong patterns too and worth a look. Quote
elmoputney Posted May 6, 2006 Author Report Posted May 6, 2006 hello coops hows tricks i must admit the more i think about them the more they sound really good i may give them a go i thought about the difference between a cheap drill bit and a good one the good ones always last a hell of a lot longer and stay a lot sharper so i guess its the same thing with these hooks and the cost might work itself out if they last 3 times longer than a normal hook Quote
coops_northants Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 Yeah mate things are good, bit gutted that i cant get out fishing this weekend and the lake is alive and virtually empty. oh well there is always next week i suppose. Good to see your managing to catch a few. with the hooks you will never know untill you try them mate, plus if you only use them for the snag fishing then you probably wont notice the cost so much in time.
