rybak Posted June 15, 2005 Report Share Posted June 15, 2005 Hi, I think I have a problem with my rig setup, because every time I go fishing, I get my line broken on a bite at least once. I have a baitrunner reel with the drag setup good. What happens is that I get a really strong bite, the fish is running with my bait, but when I go to set the hook the line goes limp and I loose my whole rig, including the weights. I use braided line, with a simple hair rig connected to the main line with a swivel and above that a sliding weight. Any tips? The fish takes the bait, starts running by the time I go to set the hook, the line goes limp, and there goes my whole rig. At first I thought that it was a snapping turtle, but I still haven't seen one. eagle Posted June 15, 2005 Report Share Posted June 15, 2005 It really does sound as if it's your knot at fault What knot do you use for tying your main line to your hooklink If you are happy with your knot try sealing it with a dab of rig glue. rybak Posted June 15, 2005 Author Report Share Posted June 15, 2005 Thanks for all your suggestions. The line I have is fairly new, it's braided, and its rated at 25lbs. I really don't think that its my knot because the break happens before my swivel, I know this because I put a small weight above my swivel to keep my sliding weight from getting too close to the bait, and when I get this weird break I lose everything, so I know that it breaks above my swivel. I know that this must sound very strange to you, but I've never had anything like this happen to me before either, I am now thinking that its either a predatory fish (pike/muskie) or a snapping turtle. salokcinnodrog Posted June 25, 2005 Report Share Posted June 25, 2005 Sounds like a knotty problem! With a braided line never use a Blood Knot. It strangulates the line and causes it to 'go'. I mate i fished in canada for two weeks and the problem was my line was laying in beds of zebra muscles and they were snapping my line. use leadcore but u can still be broken off. canada is nototious for beds of muscles. hope this helps u out Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
