British record Barbel

Just seen the British record Barbel as been broken from the kings weir stretch on the river Lea 22lb 1oz 

Wow that's some fish

That's an impressive fish. Big barbel rarely have that massive droopy belly that some big carp have. In the pursuit of big fish, is a Billy Bunter better than an Olympic athlete?

Just seen that the river lea as done it's 2nd 20lb + Barbel in just a matter off weeks

Wonder if the amount of crayfish in the lea are a factor in the size off these Barbel

That’s an incredible catch! A 22lb 1oz Barbel is definitely something to brag about. I’ve fished the River Lea a few times, and while it’s got some great spots, I can’t imagine pulling in something that big.

Used to love fishing the Lea when I was a kid , both the proper river and the canal . 
 

Id jump on a bus to either Angel Road Edmonton or to Waltham Abbey & Broxbourne .

Never managed to snare any whiskers though . 
Plenty of nice Chub and the usual suspects . Would walk for miles sometimes looking for likely spots though.

The good old days for sure.
