tonymgarner Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Hi Just had a look through some Chod posts and I'm looking for the best knot to use to tie my swivel to my stiff filament. I use either Korda, Fox or ESP line, around 15 or 20 lb. I am a fan of the 4 turn-grinner but struggle to get it working on either rig (and look tidy). Any suggestions? Quote
ianain Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Not wishing to tell you how to suck eggs - make sure it is wetted thoroughly before tightening. Palomar knot is good and easy to tie, I've been using it a lot more lately. But do test it. Quote
dalthegooner Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Crimps. Much easier, Much better for getting all of your rigs exactly the same size. Much neater. All in my opinion, of course Quote
nigewoodcock Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Palomar knot is a mare to tie with stiff material. The only time I use a grinner is in stiff filament. I tend to just do a two or three turn. Its so stiff, it wont slip. My favorite knot for chods though is a figure of eight or the perfection loop. Gives the rig so much more ease of movement. Quote
grangemilky Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Just a simple 2 turn grinner for me, anything else is just far too big. Quote
ianain Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Gives the rig so much more ease of movement. You've lost me on that Nige; surely the ease of movement is from the swivel itself, not the knot Quote
nigewoodcock Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Draw the rig out twice. One with a grinder type knot, the other with a loop. The one with the loop will spin so much easier than the one tied tight to the swivel. bivvystreet 1 Quote
Benjamin Perry Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 Yep crimp or loop knot so it spins perfectly, and ensure the putty doesnt construct this movement.. bivvystreet 1 Quote

Ddgx Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Reluctant to start a completely new thread so hoping I'll be alright to tag this question on here; Last night I'm trying to tie a grinner using Nash NXT Zig flo onto a little zig bug - despite making sure I was delicate about teasing the knot down and making sure it was wet I could not for the life of me get it to stop curling like a pig tail just under the bug. And steaming it straight again wasn't working, probably because the stuff is getting damaged (could feel the inconsistencies and kinks in it with my finger). What am I doing wrong here? Do I use a different knot, or is the Zig Flo stuff a bit rubs? Quote

Ddgx Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Hi gents. The palomar sorted it. Will reserve judgement on its performance until after its been cast a few times and looked at in the water in the margins! It's very stretchy, I've realised that much so far. Quote
