igotink Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Hi i am new to carp fishing, my question is.... on ready made rigs i noticed you have hook length connected to a swivel which goes into a lead clip then braid from the other end of the swivel which connects to your mail line. But can you connect you manl line without using braid direct through your lead clip tied direct to the swivel? is there any difference? Thanks Quote
zammmo Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Big diffrence,it would not be safe... Quote
igotink Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 Thanks for the info, so I guess braid from swivel to main line? Quote
johnplumb Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 If im reading this right you are saying you have braid coming off both sides of the swivel , if this is so then i'm confussed . you can certainly have your main line running to the lead clip swivel and from that you have the rig coming off the other side Quote
igotink Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 You got it in one, I want to connect my main line direct to the leader clip swivel then from the other end of my swivel connect my hook length hair rig. Would this be ok? Thanks Quote
johnplumb Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 That sounds fine , i still do not understand why there is another piece of braid on your rig Quote
beanz Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Big diffrence,it would not be safe... very informative. the 'braid' may be leadcore . if so it can be removed so you can tie mainline direct. dont know what else it could be???unless theyre used clips?? Quote
igotink Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 Thanks johnplumb for the help take no notice of the braid I was getting mixed up. One last question if I may... What size swivel is best to fit in lead clip, size 8? And what lb swivel is best Thanks Quote
johnplumb Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Size 8 is the standard , personally i use Korda ,i have never seen a lb rating on small swivels but have never had one fail, good luck . Quote
beanz Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 does the clip lock in with just a push or a locking pin??? if it pushes in,your need to get the right size.numbers arent always useful if using different brands, as ones size 8 may not fit anothers size 8 clip. better to get clips and swivels from one company. igotink Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 I have not bought any lead clips yet mate which types are best? Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I have not bought any lead clips yet mate which types are best? Definitely NOT the Korda ones! In my humble view they are probably the worst lead clips on the market, and I don't like lead clips at all unless I positively have to use them. You should have: mainline to swivel with free running run ring or (fixed in terms of so the lead can come off) lead clip, swivel knotted to hooklink or attached to quick link, quick link to hooklink.
