jemsue5
Hiring a van to take to France can be very expensive, once you say you want to take it abroard the price really rises. Ferry prices vary greatly depending on which crossings you want to take but using google you can find the cheapest prices quite quickly. Make sure you all get an european health insurance card. Always have european breakdown cover, make sure you have all your driving documents to hand. Check what you need to have in your van/car for driving in France such as Fluoro jackets, spare bulb sets, warning Triangles etc. I'm sure some of the lake owners on here will offer a bit of advice later. mrs_rusheslake
Have you thought about taking 2 cars and hiring a trailer for each? This, I think would be probably the most economical way to go. There are a few places in the UK that hire trailers and we have a few groups of 4 anglers who do this. If you need any more info on trailer hire let me know and I will try and get some contact numbers for you. Probably the cheapest ferry will be Norfolk Lines from Dover to Dunkirk. Maybe get your group organised and draw up between you a list of things that you need for your trip, decide on the amount of bait you need (contact the lake owner to see the average amount of bait his anglers get through). Make sure you have enough end tackle as good tackle shops are few and far between here and wont offer you much choice and are expensive! Hope that helps getting the ball going. cobleyn
Thule do a huge roof box that will swallow all of your rods, which is a good start. Most waters respond to bait due to the high stock levels, so be prepared to take a lot of bait. Bulk sacks of 22mm halibuts work out well. martydecarp
You will need to do a bit of homework, check the ferries as a car is normally cheaper but adding a trailer will knock up the price by a fair bit. You could consider a minibus and trailer a bit more comfort and the power to haul a big trailer with 8 persons kit, try and source your bait at or close to the venue to save space and weight in the trailer. Unless you have a bait contact it should be cheaper at your chosen venue, if you are fishing a community or public venue particle and pellets can be bought from local sources
