French venue - Looking for destination help

I would like to fish a venue in France next year for big carp. I've spent the evening searching various lakes and reading reviews and looked at catches / location / cost etc but am still at a loss as where to go.

Is it best to go where the fish are biggest or head for a more achievable traget water that will give me better sport

I could really do with some advice / help / direction as to where I should start.

Many thanks

I'm obviously going to be biassed because I own a lake in France but I think you can genuinely choose a venue which has a reasonable stock of fish but also has some big fish. You would be well advised to read the catch figures because some venues claim to have big fish but they "never get caught" and some only have a couple of big fish with a mass of small ones to wade through.

We at Moorland Fisheries have 10 fifties and approx 40 forties with at least 100 thirties and all of these fish get caught fairly regularly so you are always in with a good chance.

If I can help any further please let me know.

Keith

To be honest only you can answer that question....

Once answered make a shortlist of venues based on the other things youve mentioned bearing in mind ALL catch reports & reviews, then really go to town finding out as much as you can about the lakes on your shortlist.

Bon chance!

you really need to work out what you want before looking to deeply or it will just confuse you to much.

good luck

Hi Gus, if you have not been to France before what do you consider to be big carp for some it maybe high 20's for other's it my be 60's or 70's or even bigger. What you have to look at is what you want with regards to big or small water, is distance a concern, do you want it exclusive there are many factors to consider. The best way to choose is by asking friends who have been away to places there is no substitute to recommendations. Adverts always look inviting that's what they are there for to draw you in but a personal view from someone you know who has been is always the best way forward. Hope you find what you want. All the best mate.

For me traveling to france is more than the chance of a good fish, Its all about the hospitality and the element of chance for me and lets face it there is no guarentees in fishing but if you can guarentee the experience all you then need is some luck.

I have been to Keiths place and is first class in every respect and a place that i would recomend to anyone and also one i hope to visit a good few times over the years. As with the other lakes mentioned, they all run a fantastic fishery, i know guys on here visit Kims rusheslakes often and will continue to do so because they get looked after and obviously catch a few fish and is one that i will visit if there is space when i can go 8)

CarpQuarry looks a mad place, a true one of a kind and look what you get for your money, great value and some monsters. I have spoken with Gordon a couple of times and can only say what a nice guy he sounds. Every time i think of fishing there i keep thinking "i could float fish with a waggler down the edge and have a 40 on the float" wicked.

Also Gaz just coming back from Genesis and giving us all an insight into the place was great and again the service provided is what shines through and run again by terrific people with a genuine interest in making it a "HOLIDAY" with some cracking fish thrown in too.

Why not support some of these guys and give them a whirl and let us all know how you got on.

Happy hunting.

Guest planchon

Hi Gus,

Might be worth having a look at Etang de Planchon,

Its a new venue opening for its first season in March 2011, so I'm in a 20:20 situation where I haven't got any catch reports until the venue opens!

All the advise you've been given so far is sound.

All the best with your search.
