  1. Anytime mate, always happy to help.

I would recommend Drayton but dunno how far it is for you, but try fisheries.co.uk? Plenty if fisheries on there, I always find useful for finding places on your doorstep that I've never known where there.

    Goodluck on you decision

    Ross :)

  2. My geography is terrible so sorry if this is a long way away.

    But my answer to your question would be;

Drayton Reservoir, in Daventry, near Northampton.

Just a reservoir full of carp and pike, but pike rarely see anything coz the carp are so active, the like stay deep and out of the way.

Everytime you get a run there you can guarantee it's a double figure carp, don't no how many carp are in there but is very heavily stocked. Biggest runs water I know of and basically if you don't catch there something is seriously wrong with what you done, but when you catch there it's a confidence booster for you to take your Rigs to a more difficult water.

Plenty of videos on YouTube to watch on Drayton.

Also this is the best time of year to go.

The ressy supplies water to the grand canal, meaning the water levels drop a good 6 feet! So a less of an area for the carp to swim in meaning they are even easier to find.

    Hope this helps.

    Ross :)

  3. On the spei lake

    Ross

Ahh, fair enough Chris, my fishing isn't quite good enough for speci lakes yet so il be on the long pool, and any carp for me would be nice, especially a double :) hopefully it will fish well on Tuesday when I go, ain't being carp fishing for a few week due to work and I'm dying of withdrawal symptoms :P

take some dog biscuits with you if you are going to fish the long lake

I thought the first rule to carping was to always carry some dog biscuits for cruising carp?

  4. On the spei lake

  5. Good fishing with light gear. i only fished one night on there with my little brother about 2 years back and had a good time. we had around 20 fish from 4pm to 4 am on 2 rods. Great for the social, all pitch up together and fish out to the stream bed on the arm and you will have loads of fish.

Cheers mate, I did look on fisheries.com but find the info from other anglers is always better, so your info is much appreciated :)

What size where the fish you was hauling out? But size didn't bother us as it's a social more than anything.

Did you manage to catch any cats? :D

    Ross :)

  6. Hey,

Me and a couple of mates are looking at fishing Naseby Reservoir, mainly for a social together and a chance of some decent carp, and maybe even one of the catfish!

Has anybody fished it before? If so any information about it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

    Ross :)

  7. I was on Yesterday the 29th, i fished peg 8 in the woods i had 3 to 19lb there was a total of around 12 fish out out i think my mate paul having 5 of them nr the stumps no...

Loads of fish showing but from the few fish caught there was signs of spawning...

Was that on the specimen lake or on long pool? I'm thinking of going on long pool on tuesday afternoon after work for a few hours and hope they ain't spawning on there!

    Ross :)

  8. Cuttle Mill might suit you nicely, catch s you can't look around, so if you want to look aroun you gave to pay your fees and fish it, or be naughty and sneak around haha, there are 2 lakes there, one is a general lake 2 acres ish with 2 islands don't no how big the carp are, I went with a mate and I blanked an he had 1 6lb er so we sucked that day

And there is a specimen lake there too which I havnt fished but guessing hold a few 30's can't remember if there is a 40 in there, but google it and should have all of the information you require, don't no of many other lakes but just use fisheries.com or type in Carp fishing in birmingham, might be a shot. Also a nice lake in Ashby de la zooch (think that's how it's spealt) might be a bit too far but it's meant to be a good lake with a good head of carp although I havnt fished it, my carp fishing isn't yet good enough to go for the 30+'s.

    Goodluck with your searches.

    Ross :)

  9. Ive fished bottom lake a few times now, and you can get a year ticket now for the bottom lake for 70 quid, but only means you have to go 10 times in the year to get your cash back if you fish 2 rods, which i do.

Ive being there 3 times on the bottom pool, and every time ive had a few carp out, all perfect conditon, the biggest carp ive had out is 10lb, but ive seen bigger on the surface when it gets hot, but very hard to catch on the surface there. have spoken to a few people who have had THE sturgeon out the bottom pool all saying they got it at 9lb.

Wouldnt attempt the top pool as others say its not big enough, but they are just continuously digging all the sludge out of it, so maybe in a few years top pool might be worth fishing.

as for bottom pool, i quite like the wooden decking, and it never gets busy with at most half a dozen pegs being fished at the same time, so is always nice and quiet, il be fishing bottom pool most of this year, and will make threads on it, as for now i have being told the biggest carp is just over 20lb in bottom pool, but some bloke claimed he had a carp out at 26lb, but clare said she can't confirm that as no1 else witnessed that carp.
