  1. same here Jez, no tubing or leader but a lead and beads! they don't get much money from me
  2. Hi steve, I like to think that the "hook arrangement" is responsable for hooking Carp and fished with a running lead to me is the most sensitive set up by far, and I tend to use shorter stiffish hooklenths as any movement of the bait will give an indication at the rod end"beep"! I have noticed recently while fishing that I get a few single beeps which develope into a run, but with a fixed lead there will be no indication until the hooklengh is extended and the lead is moved
  3. Hi Ken and welcome! I,m in HK and know of people who have fished and caught Carp in the "pines" Including myself So I will try to find out for you.
  4. Hi Dst, And welcome! Above I have no info on the place but Im sure others will have
  5. My Best from the Sess: A HK Mirror(very rare)!!! Best Commons: Best Cat: We will be out again on Sat! Roll on Spring!!! And topped up the Tan
  6. I agree Keith, I do not strike as they are 99.9% Nailed! I just bend into the fish and enjoy Big or Tip lake Keith?
  7. Cant remember Paul, too long ago, but lovely place!
  8. This could be of use: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=38181
  9. Is that the caravan holiday Park Paul, with a small club house? Small pool then the lake? As I went there over 20 years ago
  10. The Original Gardner Dacron was black, suple and strong, Don't know if you can still buy it? It was a few years ago that I used it
  11. Braid for mainline is a different animal to hooklenth braid, and as so should NEVER be used for hooklenths! As it works like a serated knife! Years back we used Dacron with no damage caused, then when silkworm first came out, I found it superb! Used it in 25lbs BS as it was"flat" rather than round(which will cut) in smaller diameters! Having said this I have reverted back to "bolt rigs" 80's style running lead with a float stop up the line set up and flouro hooklinks(semi stiff) for 99% of my fishing, and is awsome! Two beeps, then a single toner! In 25 year of Carp angling I can say I have never "ripped up" a Carp! Maybe Due to useing ballenced Tackle and the correct tools for the job in hand, ie: Not useing 3.5lbs TC in the margins but a 1.25lbs TC, you can still land big Carp on these and apply the same presure if need be, and also enjoy a real fight from a Carp
  12. "I'd be worried with a Shot on the Line to be honest; Not for the chance of it locking up the lead, or the shot falling off, but for the worry that squeezing a shot on the line may damage and pinch the line creating a weakspot. My view is that it is far better to use those Rubber "float" stops that are available. If you are worried about them sliding then 2 together tends to stop the problem" I agree with you Nic, thats how I set my leads up: Hooklink>>swivel>>bead>>lead(size depending on the bottom type)>>bead>>rubber float stop. Simple and effective with no worries about the stop, as after a fish the stop has normally been moved 2ft up the line by the take! Never needed to use two stops, as you can buy different sizes to suit your line Dia. I do not use tube, leadcore or leader. But as this set up is so simple it looks great in the water.
  13. Thanks Bunn, Yes a great time, and time now to do some serious Carp angling
  14. Yesterday was our local forum fish in: Taken from SFA post: Well we arrived nice and early at Pak Nai, Harry Sky Wollf Cardy Carpa 190k The Comp is on!!! baits rigs leads and floats were soon thrashing the water to foam! Even though some members Had agreed this was a social fish, some very competitive members kept some card's under their hat! So 30 mins latter Harry the "Hat" is in to an obviously very good Carp! After a good scrap I netted( after failing to knock the Carp of with the net) a stunning Pak nai Common! Gutted! Onto the unhooking mats and into the sling(being wetted at all times) Harry Hoisted the monster Carp in the weigh sling and shook with adrenaline as the scales showed around 19lbs! Unknown to Harry, Carpa was pulling on them in an old Carp fishing wind up Till I could stand no more and burst out into giggles! Wet my knees Harry! The true weight was 15.14lbs, making her the best HK SFA Carp of the year!!! So being a very laid person I had to get one! Mins later a flying take, and I'm in Battle with a beast, a great fight was had and a Channel Catfish of 14lbs was landed! Close but not close enough! Cardy the TK(tilapia King) had many(6 hook spider rigs) did the trick! In all this time SW persisted on the float and bagged some lovely Carp and Crapiers while the Carp boys had a beer! Well done Frank! 190k was on form with his oil slick methods and baits and esky of Kingway which Cardy emptied in true Margate form! Many Carp and Crapiers were landed by all members until that horrible sound of the final whistle was blown by Harry, as he was nervous to be toppled as SFA Carp king! So off we go for a great Thai meal and a few beer Changs! Well I did! So all in all a superb day, with great company and friends all met on SFA! With Some great fish to boot! And a Tan top up for free! Till the next one, Thanks Gents for a wonderfull Day, and Cheers SFA! So enjoy your Reign Carp King Harry, as it will be a short one! Long Live the King! And hail to Monster Carp I say! __________________ www.windrainandmudanglers.org.hk Wet Nets!
  15. Yes very true! All down to the swivel I think!
  16. I use one that you probably dont know of, Mumu Jiuri fron Japan 0.4mm great stuff for 5" links to a knotless knot, a clear Fluro and has never let me down
  17. Tip! Never use a shot on the line or rig! Why? Coz it can crimp and cause a flat spot that WILL weaken the line or link! Better to use 0.5mm silicone on the line or link, then add your shot, with plyers if you wish, as this will not crimp and is easialy changable
  18. They are in the freezer waiting for you Notice the condition of the mouths, all perfect! Dont forget the Pies!
