  1. 'Warm fuzzy feeling' [emoji4] until you find one improvising an unhooking mat is easy; piece of 3" foam in a heavy duty trash bag. I use several padded mats made for crib matresses and changing diapers and have gone through a few different incarnations of that in the last 10 years. A leaky air-bed that would otherwise be thrown out, over some padding is perfect ; you want protection for the fish from banging around and a wet smooth surface to save the slime. The CAG trading board has used unhooking mats from time to time as well as the US carp tackle dealers so keep an eye out if you decide to get one. It's one of the things hard to import because of the size. Weigh slings are easy to import or buy here, carp-safe nets are also an issue but are available and some domestic types are ok.
  2. I doubt that would fly, it's still introducing something regardless of delivery system.
  3. Depending on the size of the water he can probably catch on single baits anyway CM, North American carp aren't too elusive as a rule. A little change up is nice and won't hurt but unless he's fishing a big lake campaigning isn't always a necessity.
  4. You could check Billy Clarke Tackle in Sheffield, they were great shipping to me in Canada and the website says they do Aus - doesn't cost anything to shoot them an email.
  5. When you talk to the warden, if he says no loose bait introduced at all (killing pva and stringers, feeders etc) ask about having a piece of sponge with attractant in it inside a feeder. This shouldn't be any more illegal than Gulp or any of the sprays and should help. One very wise old man in a no-bait state showed me once how he froze particle in ice cube trays so it just looked like ice, then he could chuck them out when nobody was looking.
  6. That's certainly an improvement, were you both using Essentials or did you try a variety?
  7. I've just moved that to the appropriate space.
  8. Anybody? I wouldn't click on that with YOUR finger.
  9. That looks right enough. Moisten and pull tight. With braid I use a groove on the handle of my boilie drill to hold the hook by the bend when snugging it up so I don't accidentaly run it into my finger.
  10. Youtube doesn't translate (NA/UK) all the time and I get frustrated and confused and .. you know. You probably need more Tex-Mex in any case; this is for kitchen dancing.
  11. Strong drink weak mind. Sorry again.
  12. Oops killed another music thread, sorry. Don't blame me, blame society. [emoji3]
  13. Try laying them yourself and you may appreciate it more.[emoji3]

    Best mates

Well that's sad, give it some time Victor. When my dog died I was so torn up it really took me 2 years before I stopped cracking up every time I saw a turd on the road. You'll always miss them but you have to move on. Just my 2 cents. For some getting a puppy is the way to go and if your situation allows I think you should consider it. Why deny yourself the enjoyment of doing it again?
  15. Oh, ok. I have a venue with the same problem, we cast 95 yds to get past the weeds then have to try to keep them heads up and out of trouble all the way in. Sometimes I keep the barb but it's normally pinched back (who knows what I'll do?) - I have factory barbless carp hooks but haven't used them, they just seem too slick. Mouth damage for me is normally not an issue with pinched barbs but if the swim is likely to give me trouble I'll probably keep the barb.
  16. What he says. Less stretch at range improves the hook set, braid will saw through weed better than mono, and the fatter hook will cut less lip.
  17. Keep it civil please gentlemen.
  18. Feel free to switch opinions, or change according to venue, weather or time of day, as (at least in the 10 years I've been here) we fight out barbed v barbless about every 6 months. [emoji2] I sometimes fish in Manitoba or British Columbia where barbless is law so I carefully comply, and will use either when in my home province depending on situation. I believe mouth damage is often caused by anglers' poor technique and will occur with barbed hooks as well as barbless based on what I've seen. Once in a blue moon you just hook a berzerker fish and there's going to be no way to keep even pressure on while they jerk around.
  19. I didn't know exactly what a lurcher was, always thought they were border collie/greyhound crosses or very similar dogs so I have some learning to do. The greyhound for pursuit and the border to cut them off at the pass. I've always admired that with a lurcher you can go hunting with just a dog and a sack to put game in and possibly a club to dispatch it with. Not a practical dog in my climate though. Chillfactor I'm sure your honey harvest will be great. What do they feed on, alfalfa, clover? Honey (to my knowledge) is the only food that never spoils.
  20. Very nice! How much honey do you think they produce and is it a long wait?
