    Coated Braid

very rarely use coated braids anymore, choose to hinge my rigs with bristle insead, or a simple length of merlin. the only coated links I do use frequently are my own version of the recoil rig, where the silicone tubing gives me the desired kick out off the lead yet is still supple, plus I get the added spring in the rig whichI find highly beneficial for very riggy fish
  3. Only way I introduce glug is by soaking hooklength and a dung lead and freezing them down prior as I feel any more than this is too much of a big hit and too concentrated. plus the hooklength stays perfectly straight for the cast
  4. Well you dont look that hard, you can even get them in Yellow god mate dont start him off again!!!!! his set up will look like a radioactive mishap
  5. would blow around on the bed, its only going to represent the weight of the dry float once under water once filled as water has the same density as .......water
  6. I use my own version of this, based on frank warwicks recoil rig, ie supple braid at around 8-10" inside a four" peice of silicone tube but with a stiff right angled boom pinning the hook to the bed with a critically balanced bait fished blow back, for certain situations and it has proved itself eight times on seriously riggy fish this year.
  7. yep, yhat to myself is good for the soul
  8. no mate, and they have the same problem, impossible to tighten down to them but korda leads coating isnt exactly coarse is it, thats a smooth plastic coating, also, once the diamond lead thing has been dragged about a bit, not gonna be so invisible anymoe,if they are, scatches and gouges will hold debris and stuff. read the whole thread before you jump in with a comment that is totally out of context and as for clear hooks, well yet again read the posts. total farce eh you can comment on the leads when you have been using them for the last twelve months and have an informed view
  9. IE. .................see above
  10. also find out who is top rod, watch there decisions in any given condition as to location, with high wind, rain, slack water etc and try to build up a pattern in that which will help you to formulate your own plans and methods. Not suggesting diving in swims, simply watch and take it on board and work out reasons for their decisions in set conditions
  11. all depends on the weather, water level, undertow, water temp, location and what level the fish are actually feeding at in intensity.....too many variables to give a straight answer. experiment but keep it simple to start with or else you could go past the perfect rig for your situation and be doing things worse without even knowing. dont change more than one thing at a time and always record your changes, weather etc etc etc in a notebook.....................................................................................................a pattern will emerge
  12. sounds like a job worth doing elastic band and a pair of snips........................worked on a pig farm when growing up at school. worst job was doing the stockholm tar when they were nibbling each others tails
  13. you reckon????????? not a chance
  14. we all have a penchant for something..................for instance yours is yellow butt rests
  15. no difference in presentation mate, most likely to find that your club has a hardcore of matchmen. both presentations put a tight bed down and a bait right on top. why cant you fish the "method with your hookbait cast to it or dropped by boat???? would keep levels of naturals high but forget the bolt rig......go for a free running lead and a slack line for indication, any takes are likely to be finicky and you need it to register properly. hit the twitches, dont wait for a full blooded run
  16. fish a heavily and i mean HEAVILY weeded water as I do with barbless and you need castrating with a spoon, and I will gladly do it
  17. lots of conflicting statements fly round about this rig and hook patterns. a rig should spin and turn otherwise its a badly developed idea. I dont thin for one minute that frank (judging by his sensible approach to posts and general comments) would commit to a rig unless he was totally confident that it works.....SAFELY. problems arise when you put inexperienced anglers on the end of a rod fishing for pasties, and the biggest disgrace is using it in a barbless form...................barbaric
  18. does as much damage as the original bent hook rig mate, if fishing for 25lb+ fish solely then fine, otherwise steer clear
  19. your all on a roll here, I am waiting on a batch of clear hooks for one use only, zigs and pop ups....................................bottom baits were never mentioned
  20. dont see any benefit in it at all, the weight issue is really not an issue!! tubing is far more versitile, maleable and above all fish friendly, leadcore is just a simple no no for me and should be with far more.
  21. I only ever use tubing, majority of my fishing is with 6-8ft lengths with critical mass dotted along. dont like leadcore, to open for poor use by ill informed or irresponsible idiots
  22. remember I was talking in a pm a while ago about a new hooking arrangement for zigs i was looking forward to getting into mate, this is it
  23. yes mate lots will be jumping on the bandwagon and buying from firms that are selling a gimmick though, and actually worthless in fishing terms
  24. would make it far more visible
  25. with regards to a lead, the density of the glass doesnt affect the clarity of it, you would need to be fishing a very shallow water, somewhere around a mile off the sun and casting once a minute, so as to keep the lead moving before you could spot mine. Did tests on my water....gin clear..depths 5-7ft, i dropped one in the margin in six inches of water, and four of us spent twenty minutes looking for it. wouldnt touch anything else now, aside from dung leads for snaggy choddy areas, and only because they take a glug on
