  1. i'd have said sandhurst myself but reading kevs post about kingfisher i think i might change my mind
  2. winsford bottom flash and winterley pool are both worth a look, they both contain 20's but not loads of them, i actually don't think there are any day ticket waters in cheshire that have a 'good head' of 20's
  3. its too cold, even if somewhere was ice free, i can't say i'd want to be out fishing when the daytime temps are below zero
  4. personally i like kamasan b175's, they are trout hooks but they work very well for carp in the larger sizes (6 and 4) they don't break the bank either, i bought a new box of 100 last week for just over £8
  5. interesting thread, i've suffered this problem myself in the past, a series of hookpulls and missed runs at maximum range. i never did solve the problem but i'm inclined to go with the lack of bait idea as i was fishing beyond baiting range with single hookbaits for pressured fish
  6. don't use mantis often, like everyone else i use my teeth
  7. i don't think i've ever used anything smaller than a 10 for carp fishing
  8. some good tactics from poleaxe, travelling light, getting on the fish and just fishing singles or bags. leaving baits out longer and not recasting when everyone else does is a cracker these are the kind of tactics i'd use too
  9. i've been to sandhurst a few times now, all swims are capable of producing fish on their day, the carp show themselves a lot but you can't always get on them because the lake is so busy. the mags have been recommending maggots and maize for what seems like forever which is why i always take a good quality boilie with me as well, all my fish so far have fallen to odyssey xxx but any good bait will work, the water has a lot of big fish and they need to eat so you'll always be in with a chance if you can get on them
  10. http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/fishing/31497.aspx £26 for a year, one licence covers the use of 2 rods, if you use 3 or 4 rods you'll need a second licence you can also get an 8 day licence for £9.50 and the same applies, you'll need 2 of them if you use 3 or 4 rods once you have your rod licence/s you just need your day ticket money good luck mate
  11. not really within 3-4 hours drive of hollyhead but if your giving up a week in france to fish in the uk then its got to be linear fisheries or yateley sandhurst
  12. grey mist mere would be a good bet mate, it belongs to warrington anglers
  13. i use a gardener rig bin to store zigs
  14. backleads are ok, the only time i would think about bite indication when using backleads is when fishing to a snag of some kind, otherwise i'm quite happy and i use them for 95% of my fishing sometimes i use both flying and normal backleads together in order to get my line tight to the bottom, specially in clear water
  15. almost forgot, stoke on trent have a water called bolesworth castle, its just outside chester along the a41, near broxton roundabout
  16. not much around that area mate, warrington anglers have a water called 'the mount' near buckley
  17. really can't say i'm surprised, the first year i went there was at least 22 anglers on every night at £25 each, when the cemex club card came in i'd already booked so they honoured my last trip but there was only 6-8 anglers a night on the lake the sums ain't rocket science
  18. i just let it drop naturally on the floor with no coils, it works ok if you sort of lob it out with quite a high cast
  19. sandhurst would be an option too, it would be expensive at £500 for 24hrs for exclusive use but theres nowhere better in the country if you want to bank a 30 or two on a day ticket
  20. just a case of which way you prefer really, i use the line aligner myself, i've never been happy having my hooklink anywhere near a steaming kettle
  21. i use drennan double strength myself, i carry 6,8 and 10lb versions, start high and scale down if you can't get bites
  22. no fishing on marley tiles mate, the search facility on northern monkeys will give what little info is available about the place
  23. crabmill flash was never a syndicate mate, it used to be run by wheelock anglers but they let it go a few years ago its now under the control of lymm angling club, its open membership and easy to join, in fact if you enquire on the nwc forum you may still be able to get away with not paying the joining fee as lymm waived it for nwc members http://lymmanglersclub.com/nuke/
  24. winsford bottom flash mate, its still day ticket and open despite the weaver running through it
  25. theres a place called turners pool near macclesfield, its supposed to be one of those waters you can't possibly fail on
