Seriously been thinking about this. Nash bait, well did very well back in the day with ready mades when from memory was only competing against Richworth and maybe a few others? I used them a few times, not to bad tbh. Times have changed, they have been so much overtaken by sooo many bait firms, can't compete. Also the whole Nash brand I suspect will now do a nose dive, Alan Blair, that Jamie bloke, Carl and Alex. etc etc on social media will eventually die a death, tbh if I was the bloke I would sell the lot at his age and just retire with his own lake to fish. As an old git I actually don't care anymore about these old firms...... except the demise of Premier Baits who actually sent me a free T Shirt, which I wore for many a pic đ

Also used 'active' ingredients in PVA bags too, ground mixer and, I think 'Bakers' soft dog biscuits, bung them in the bag with a few mini pellets and squirt in lots of hemp / fish oil. As I have got into a season of method feeder fishing now, I am fiddling about with that but the dry / oil ingredients certainly work in a bag.... and so much cheaper too!

I would say that Rod was one of the finest (carp fishing) writers / story tellers I have read, certainly a big influence on me. Still have a copy of 'The Carp Strikes Back', so much info in there and also great tales of the older days too, must dig it out again đ
-
Forgot about crumb tbh, might be the answer to bind it up đ Thanks Framey đ As for Groats, err I still mix them in too, and used to years ago with hemp (don't bother with it now} as a spod mix.

Deff worth giving it go đ Just back from a local club lake and had a few out too. For what it's worth I think the 'vaned' method feeders are the best for 'larger' carp fishing, the 'flat bed' ones are more match fishing, imo. Elasticated ones, deff a no no, from memory, if you break off above the feeder the fish will still be trailing it! As for loading it up, back in the day, scalded trout pellets deff worked on HorseShoe - actually accounted for a lot of 20+ fish. Like others have said Vitalin was great, now sadly gone, I have been messing about with flaked maize. a bit of sweet nutty method mix, oils and blittzed tigers, still cant get the mix to get to stick to feeder when I do a long chuck yet, semolina sort of worked, never mind it's good fun playing about with stuff đ

A bit more info: https://www.carpology.net/article/features/the-carp-part-2-the-invasion-of-england/ As salokcinnodrog said đ

If anyone is interested, a few more old skool reads: Quest for Carp - Jack Hilton Carp Fever - Kevin Maddocks Big Water Carp - Jim Gibbinson Rob Maylins trio of books (guess they are old skool now?) The Rod Hutchinson Chris Yates Legacy - complitaion of Carp World interviews Casting at the Sun - Chris Yates A very interesting read, not really carp related but an insight into the old days - Fantastic Feeder Fishing by Archie Braddock
-
Other Hutchy books I have: 'The Carp Strikes Back' - fantastic read, and also 'Carp Then and Now'. Yes. fishing was certainly much more simple back in the day, tackle has obviously moved on so much, social media as with all aspects of life has changed things in so many ways too. If people can imagine a time when carp anglers were very rare on the banks and smaller lakes were not actually brown puddles, then carp were introduced at first mainly for match anglers, sadly other species were muscled out of their enviroment and we all know the rest. I have adapted to the new scene, don't do nights anymore and just fish for my enjoyment of being on the bank now, still experimenting on new ideas which suits me fine đ

I found this last night in the Andy Little book 'My Passion For Carp' page 58: "The bait I used was very similar to the one I had used at Darenth during the previous winter........... I had slightly changed the original nix of Casien, Lactalbumin, Calcium Casinate and Gluten etc. In the new mix I substituted some of the lighter milk protiens with Semolina........ ended up with a heavier Casein, Semolina and Gluten" Goes on to say it had a maple flavour, 20ml in a 10oz mix!! also says he used to add granulated sugar in boiling water as a sweetner!

Hmm, bugging me now too! đ Never mind, probably all secret stuff has long gone now.... err to much social media? I still like my day sessions at a local lake complex, can't be bothered with the latest 'wonder hookbaits' etc, still think it is a location thing. Mind you, I am now getting fiddling around with a method mix, not sure many now use this for carp fishing?

If you live in Trump land, why bother with rigs like that, surely a plain and simple mehthod feeder with maize flour etc and a simple Anmesia short link with tiger nuts or maize would be a lot easier and may produce results for you: This might help:

Just looked in the Big Carp book, couldn't find it. but tbh it seemed the bloke was one of the first on Savay to use the hair rig and to fish with massive amount of bollies - at that time - at long range. Sure I remember reading that he did simplfy the baits, and at that time the carp had probably not seen anything like his way of fishing it?
-
Not sure I expected so many posts on this tbh, but pleased it has sparked reaction đ Agree with salokcinnodrog, roller wheels are based on the original optonics, I still have two somewhere that were linked (by a cable) to a BiTech Viper sounder box., used to use them so many years ago on Horseshoe Lake! Just as an aside, the Catchum catalogue, very long gone now, used to advertise converting an optonic to a Delkim conversion, but sadly when I wanted to have it done they couldn't because of legal reasons.

Sorry, wrong choice of words really âšī¸, I just don't actually think it is advancement over the current ATTs range.
-
Not sure about 'no brainer' đ. The TLB had a speaker and they discontinued it, not sure it needed a reciever to actually make a run tone tho?? As for loads of interest, well only thing I dug up was that youtube vid I posted ages ago, nothing on theirweb site lol Anyway, each to his own, I cannot see this being a winner, and in an odd way I hope it isn't...... just stick to the old skool stuff a lot of us old gits love about ATTs
-
Ian. Totally agree, I will never change from my original ATTs alarms, tbh I just wonder how these 'improved' ones will actually sell? Oh hold on a minute 'cr*pology' will no doubt do the usual rave review when they come out đ It wont boost any sales tho imo. Don't change ATTs, I have no intention to change mine đ

I sometimes look on this web site, normally a bit banal about how to.... etc But found this small insight into possibly one of the best angling series ever broadcast: https://www.carpology.net/article/features/an-interview-with-hugh-miles/
-
Sorry, couldn't edit the last post, should have added it was sensitive enough for tench, roach and silver bream on feeder too
-
Maybe look at an 'Avon' rod? Drennan do (used to do?) a series 7 range, Multi tip feeder rod and the added bonus of a float rod option too đ Probably still do the range in a range of TCs too, I have landed carp to 15lb on the 1 1/2lb TC rod, actually back in the day 2 1/2lb TC rods were the largest you could buy!!

With respect mate, I was suggesting trying pre drilled pellets. I used to use a Gardner hook band thing, not sure if they are still available? Put 'inside' a grnner knot for pellet at base of hook, or just put it on the end of hair rig, not done that for years but used to be a good edge in the grinner when used for floater hookbaits.... sonubaits I think from memory đ
-
As others have said, so many particles to go for, obviously don't know the water but for hookbaits, a suggestion, maybe hard drilled halibut pellets? If you do decide on them as a hookbait I have found they can me knawed down by other fish and also when mounting on a hair I put a small sliver of fake corn under the boilie stop as the hole will expand and the boilie stop will go thu eventually. Final thought, unless there are flying rats around, what about floaters at this time of year? Good luck mate, always a good buzz fishing somewhere new đ
-
Your choice mate, deff not going into this anymore đī¸
-
I don't know you obviously mate, In the past I have seen so many breakups with families because of the carp obsession, not worth it all, family more important than posing with a water pig in your arms, without a dought
-
Sadly whatever Ali does now will be tainted by the infamous 'twig' thing! I acually liked the first few series of Monster Carp he was in, but I suspect as ever Social Media has turned him into some sort of monster, and with new business venture obviously needs to get all interest and purchasing he can. As for the boilies, I won't be interested at all, in fact recently gone over to method feeders again and happy to do it with the lakes I now fish.

Found this on YouTube a while back. Hmmm, not sure I am really that impressed, the guy doesn't really explain it to well, however that speaker on the front does seem like an invitation for water ingress. Also the underlit rollers not for me. I prefer the led on my older alarms. Think I will be saying 'I'm out' for this new one tbh.
