  1. Yonny: Sorry I didn't realise that, they looked a bit like the old Weigh Master scales I used to have. Kevtaylor: Might have to do the same thing, I have the big Ruben dial scales, they are a bit bulky, come to think of it I don't actually use them much now anyway! 😃
  2. "Are we talking about the old Nash Monster pursuit bait as used by the likes of Terry hearn and Nigel sharp back in the day? From memory it was a fishmeal bait with added Robin red with an added Shellfish flavour." Sorry so easy on line to find this stuff, from another site, just a big bait circus, no doubt it will fly off the shelves tho....... until the next big thing..... 😄
  3. And those baits are deff not any current Sticky ones đŸ¤Ģ
  4. On reflection, maybe a bit harsh on my comment, as ever the carp were amazing, big old ones and not fished to death by noddies! Couple of things tho... why did he use some 'cheapo' scales to weigh the fish? and... kept mentioning about the 20mm boilies, might be the Source, but did notice a 'sneak' view of a Sticky bag coming from the cool box too? Fair play to the bloke deff better videos than most. Just wish I could get out on the bank today and tomorrow but unfortunatly lakes are closed... weed clearance apparently, didn't seem to bother Tell tho 🙂 Or me if I was allowed to fish!
  5. Fair comment, deff better than some 'urban banx (sic)' thing, or a lot of just tackle promo videos ☚ī¸. Mind you, as someone who watched 'Harefield Hauling' many years ago perhaps my age is starting to show! 🙂
  6. Nice chunky fish mate, remember the late John Wilson was always a great fan of the Wensum, good to see otters have not completly decemated the river too 👍
  7. Probably not going to be to be well recieved but spent a while watching this and gave up, it's the same old same old...... last interesting one was many years ago on his boat fishing on the thames... imo
  8. Yes it seems to be, made my own and it deff makes the mix a lot stickier / firmer 👍 tried it on Monday on a new lake, no fish caught but obviously early days yet.
  9. Amazing fish mate, better than any pale water pigs on so many venues, and no mouth damage too, they are certainly to be respected hopefully will go on in some undiscovered places and be left in peace 👍
  10. I travel along A30 when I go to Kernow, actually there is a quarry on the right hand side as you drive that always strikes me as looking very 'creepy', never turned off to investigate it tho 😨 Think it is near the 'Nearly Home Trees' ? Also good to hear there are still places that still have Leneys... I am old but if they have been undisturbed some may be my age? lol
  11. @emmcee. lovely looking fish, glad there are still some around 👍. @salokcinnodrog Frensham ponds still on a Farnham angling club ticket, sadly as you say had a massive fish kill and tbh the big lake is now just unfishable, even if you wanted to in summer as rammed with swimmers and tourists. Used to be a lake near there many years ago that was an old skool venue tho, think Andy Little used to fish there??
  12. Sadly, I suspect no true Leneys now exist.... I still have this 'romantic' notion that there are still undiscoverd / ultra private waters where they do tho 🙂 I used to correspond 'email' years ago with a bloke who actually knew Chris Yates and he mentioned the Leney stock records, it started with my mention of a certain surrey water who Yates had 'guested' on and he lived near the place and knew nothing about it, probably mentioned the place on here but a deff no no for visits or fishing tho now!
  13. Lovely looking Leney, they were deff something special 👍
  14. Ah, see what you mean now 👍 Even the Leney Carp originally came from Holland, I believe, and used to be predominat in Horseshoe Lake in the 90's, now sadly long gone, they were lovely looking fish and one of the reasons I used to make a silly amount of miles to fish for them. 🙂
  15. Roughtor, Not sure what the 'danubian notch' is? I get to Kernow twice a year, mainly to chill from stuff, last time I found a small lake rammed with smallish carp, lovely time catching on floaters and only one fishing there, obviously not wildies but long lean and so hard fighting and no mouth damage 👍 Good to fish somewhere with no bivvie city and carp idiots 😃
  16. Seriously been thinking about this. Nash bait, well did very well back in the day with ready mades when from memory was only competing against Richworth and maybe a few others? I used them a few times, not to bad tbh. Times have changed, they have been so much overtaken by sooo many bait firms, can't compete. Also the whole Nash brand I suspect will now do a nose dive, Alan Blair, that Jamie bloke, Carl and Alex. etc etc on social media will eventually die a death, tbh if I was the bloke I would sell the lot at his age and just retire with his own lake to fish. As an old git I actually don't care anymore about these old firms...... except the demise of Premier Baits who actually sent me a free T Shirt, which I wore for many a pic 🙂
  17. Also used 'active' ingredients in PVA bags too, ground mixer and, I think 'Bakers' soft dog biscuits, bung them in the bag with a few mini pellets and squirt in lots of hemp / fish oil. As I have got into a season of method feeder fishing now, I am fiddling about with that but the dry / oil ingredients certainly work in a bag.... and so much cheaper too!
  18. I would say that Rod was one of the finest (carp fishing) writers / story tellers I have read, certainly a big influence on me. Still have a copy of 'The Carp Strikes Back', so much info in there and also great tales of the older days too, must dig it out again 👍
  19. Forgot about crumb tbh, might be the answer to bind it up 👍 Thanks Framey 🙂 As for Groats, err I still mix them in too, and used to years ago with hemp (don't bother with it now} as a spod mix.
  20. Deff worth giving it go 👍 Just back from a local club lake and had a few out too. For what it's worth I think the 'vaned' method feeders are the best for 'larger' carp fishing, the 'flat bed' ones are more match fishing, imo. Elasticated ones, deff a no no, from memory, if you break off above the feeder the fish will still be trailing it! As for loading it up, back in the day, scalded trout pellets deff worked on HorseShoe - actually accounted for a lot of 20+ fish. Like others have said Vitalin was great, now sadly gone, I have been messing about with flaked maize. a bit of sweet nutty method mix, oils and blittzed tigers, still cant get the mix to get to stick to feeder when I do a long chuck yet, semolina sort of worked, never mind it's good fun playing about with stuff 🙂
  21. A bit more info: https://www.carpology.net/article/features/the-carp-part-2-the-invasion-of-england/ As salokcinnodrog said 👍
  22. If anyone is interested, a few more old skool reads: Quest for Carp - Jack Hilton Carp Fever - Kevin Maddocks Big Water Carp - Jim Gibbinson Rob Maylins trio of books (guess they are old skool now?) The Rod Hutchinson Chris Yates Legacy - complitaion of Carp World interviews Casting at the Sun - Chris Yates A very interesting read, not really carp related but an insight into the old days - Fantastic Feeder Fishing by Archie Braddock
  23. Other Hutchy books I have: 'The Carp Strikes Back' - fantastic read, and also 'Carp Then and Now'. Yes. fishing was certainly much more simple back in the day, tackle has obviously moved on so much, social media as with all aspects of life has changed things in so many ways too. If people can imagine a time when carp anglers were very rare on the banks and smaller lakes were not actually brown puddles, then carp were introduced at first mainly for match anglers, sadly other species were muscled out of their enviroment and we all know the rest. I have adapted to the new scene, don't do nights anymore and just fish for my enjoyment of being on the bank now, still experimenting on new ideas which suits me fine 👍
  24. I found this last night in the Andy Little book 'My Passion For Carp' page 58: "The bait I used was very similar to the one I had used at Darenth during the previous winter........... I had slightly changed the original nix of Casien, Lactalbumin, Calcium Casinate and Gluten etc. In the new mix I substituted some of the lighter milk protiens with Semolina........ ended up with a heavier Casein, Semolina and Gluten" Goes on to say it had a maple flavour, 20ml in a 10oz mix!! also says he used to add granulated sugar in boiling water as a sweetner!
  25. Hmm, bugging me now too! 😃 Never mind, probably all secret stuff has long gone now.... err to much social media? I still like my day sessions at a local lake complex, can't be bothered with the latest 'wonder hookbaits' etc, still think it is a location thing. Mind you, I am now getting fiddling around with a method mix, not sure many now use this for carp fishing?
