  1. Sugar, salt and glycerine are all taste stimulants. Just not all at the same time. Glycerine is fine in winter, as you would expect.
  2. Things like glycerine,salt and sugar I would only use at the appropriate time of year, when the carp are expecting to find them and will be stimulated by them.
  3. It is curious that so many folk are interested in the history of carp fishing and yet the most important event of all – the introduction of the species into England – is not public knowledge.
  4. Along Fisherman's Paths is a nice read. Sadly, Mike Winter passed away some years back. He was one of the original winter carp fishing pioneers.

  6. Naming fish is anathema to me. Way back in the early 70s, I banked a fish and before I could even unhook it a guy rushed forward and said: “That’s big [censored], my mate had it last week at 27 lb.” That episode completely spoiled the moment for me. Naming fish and broadcasting their weight destroys what little mystery there is left in carping.
