Bascially put it's a rig that when the carp picks up the hookbait, the carp feels the weight of the lead it bolts and hooks itself because of the weight.Hence the name.

There's plenty of threads for a more detailed explanation, use the search facility above to find them. :D

There is a picture of the components needed to make a SAFE Bolt Rig.

Also above it, is a discussion about a Particular Rig that someone didn't realise wasn't safe for Fishing, also a Picture of a Good Running Lead Rig.

i totallay disagree about it making the carp bolt .

does a carp run on a run rig then instead of bolt.......NO, its the lead thats free running .

the bolt is called bolt rig , if used with a heavy lead ,which its meant to be .

its bolted to the deck ..hence its called a bolt rig

No, it was called a Bolt rig as it was supposed to make the Carp Bolt on Feeling the Lead.

Since its inception the Carp have often learned NOT to Bolt on Feeling the Lead, so now its more correct to call is a Semi-Fixed Lead Rig (either Inline or Pendant Style).

Running Lead rigs are so called because the Lead is able to run up and down the Line or tubing
