dayday Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 what pop up rig has the best presentation .The ones i make look terrible when on the lake bed Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I use a simple Knotless knot with the hair being formed into a loop that tightens down to the Bait. I then tie the bait on. Normally a longshank hook. I prefer to use braid for Pop-up presentation as it camouflages itself in with the bottom. Just remember that if a pop-up looks blatant to you then the Carp may be more comfortable feeding on a bottom bait. If you are fishing over a bed of bait then a pop-up can actually cost you more Carp than it hooks. Quote
wayno Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I agree totally, its very rare I use pop ups these days I only use them if i feel I am using them for a reason. I would rather use a bottom bait for a single hook bait presentation if possible. If i am going to use a pop up generally I use a hinged stiff link made out of bristtle filament. And I never use them over a bed of bait. if the carp are feeding on the bottom they will often shy away from a pop up like salokcinnodrog said Quote
dayday Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Posted February 2, 2006 thanks 4 the addvise do u have eny more tips about winter carping .Ive had a few fish but i no i could b doing better Quote
wayno Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Basically, if you have had fish on the bait you are using and the rigs you are using in the summer months chances are you are not doing that much wrong. just stick at it mate you will get them just use less bait. In the winter I mostly use single hook baits, have a look on the site there are loads of good tips.. good luck Quote
andy_galloway Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 i gave up using pop-ups ages ago. i prefer to find a really good bottom bait. i have been using bird seed based baits, they work really well this time of year. Quote

andy_galloway Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 i carried on using small pva bags with crushed bolies and a few whole freebies but this didnt seem to work to well, as soon as i switched to pva stringers my catch rate increased. Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 Strange that, I was using stringers and had to go the other way, to using PVA bags. I wasn't comfortable with a stringer and a pop-up as I felt that the Pop-up and hook were being dragged into leaves on the bottom. I found that with a PVA bag the pop-up would rest more rather sitting in the bottom rubbish. Quote
dayday Posted February 4, 2006 Author Report Posted February 4, 2006 My stringers and PVA bags are not melting because of the cold water .Is there eny pva products that are designed 2 brake down in cold water Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Kryston make the best PVA as far as I'm concerned. Thats in bags or String Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 ive found the new fishrite pva to be good in the cold weather. Quote
andrewtrace Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Maggots and swimfeeder, never thought i would say this , but having gone back to the first bait i ever used twenty years ago, yesterday had six fish in six hours , of which 4 in a mad ten minute spell, all high singles and low doubles. Not bad for february and my first fish for the year Quote
