Warlingham Based looking for advice.

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

Im interested in starting Carp fishing and while Ive watched what seems to be every single video on YouTube ect I dont know anyone who fishes.

So, the big question is where do I start? Do I just buy some inexpensive rods and reals plus all the rest (after looking I think essentialls would be around £500+) book a session and just crack on? Or is there a better way to start...

Id like to just start with some day session and further into the summer do some overnighters.

Any advice on starter tackle, lakes in the Surrey area would be great.

Cheers,

Personally,I would never say start carp fishing as a first fishing experiance but welcome

if you can buy some 2nd hand tackle first it would be cheaper if you decide it isn’t actually for you and you will get better for your money so will technically lose less.

carls you tube channel is very good for beginners

Yeah I’ve watched the majority of Carls stuff, very useful cheers.

i didn’t think of second hand tackle, just assumed a £50 rod new would be as cheap as it gets?

I’ll go back to the drawing board 👍

Welcome to carp.com

My personal advice, fish for 'other' fish in waters with carp in.

The way I started carp (and tench) fishing was fishing one float rod for silver fish with maggots, bread or worm, and then a ledger rod to one side with a bigger bait, sweetcorn, luncheon meat or boilie.

I don't know the Surrey area at all but I'm sure that there is a water around that fits the bill.

i came to carp after years of being a maggot drowner and as much as i was clueless to begin with i knew some of the basics of fish care and such like. i picked up some cheaper carp rods after using my feeder set up and from there have used this forum and other places to learn rigs and presentation and am now having loads of fun. i reckon if i had started fishing just going for carp i doubt i would have lasted long at it but follow the aboves advice and i reckon you will have both more fun and luck :)
