10ft Carp Rod Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I decided that will have 2 sets, but for start and because the main part of my fishing is mostly on rivers and small lakes I will take 10ft 3lb or 3.25.

There is a lot of choices, if you or your friend own some please tell me/us more, and some link to shop with good Easter offer etc is welcome

  • Sonik Dominator X 10ft 3lb
  • Greys GT4 10ft 3lb
  • Fox Torque 10ft 3lb
  • Free Spirit CTX 10ft 2.75 - 3SU - 3.25
  • Free Spirit 'E' 10ft 2.75 - 3SU - 3.25

Been using the fox torques in 10' for just over a year now, i really like them cast well and very accurate, lovely to play fish on, the others would be pretty similar so i'd go with the set you can get the best deal on.

Cool

Only there isn’t clear how many lb those Free Spirit rods are, there is so different data. Only for SU is clear.

I'm glad you're happy with them, but for me it's repulsive to read that many scope rods snap, and they cost 170 ...

A) I didn’t pay £170 😉

b) I believe the snapping only affected the mk 1 rods ive Not seen anything relating to the mk2’s snapping

c) did you see terry Edmonds reviews of them and how far he cast with them? I am not overly familiar with terry but I do know he’s a machine and can cast some serious distance (over 200yds with a scope prototype)

either way each to his/her own I suppose, and can fully understand where you are coming from.....no doubt if I had read all the bad reviews I would have given them a wide birth but they perform fine for me and that’s all I can base my opinion on 😁

If it were me I'd be looking no further than the FreeSpirit CTX Creepers.

At just over £100.00 each a bit of a no brainer really.

I'd be proud to have those in my bag.

True. Maybe if I find 2nd hand MK2 scoopes will give them a try.

I am only waiting on feedback from FS for CTX and maybe Es.

Robert.

What I'll say having two sets, and several individual Scope rods is the playing action sold them to me long term. I use (as many others do) the 9' 3lb for floater fishing, so soft are the tips you can use small hooks down the size 12s I've found. While I've not had many big fish on mine, on Youtube one guy land an 83lb carp on his.

I love the packability of mine, and provided you take reasonable care setting them up, I cannot see any problems with telescopic rods.

I've a set of Scope 1.75lb 10' that are my favourite small carp, tench, big perch, chub, reservoir roach bream rods. Hooks down to size 16s or small river barbel with a size 6s. I think in a time to come these rods will become a bit of a cult.

I should also mention the looks too. I've a set on cork and one shrink tube. The black rings and reel fitting look really cool, if you could find a set that fit your budget (second hand) I doubt you will be dissatisfied?

Good luck Dicky.

Robert.

Why so heavy may I ask? In the UK and rivers 3lb would be more than enough. Alan Blair (of Nash fame) lands some huge fish on his 2lb t/c sawn offs, take a look at his videos on You-tube. He used them at Redmire mostly, along with his 9' 3lb scopes.

Maybe your waters are extra large or extra weedy, or you use extra heavy leads?

Just a thought before you part with that hard earned cash Robert.

Hmm your question made me think... On rivers I have some spots with a lot of weed and trees so I need power. Waters where I fish are distances up to max 120m-130m so I’m thinking “maybe is better 3.5lbs so I have reserve but I hope they aren’t too stiff”

If I’m wrong... what do you think? I can still change my order till tomorrow :)

Fishing waters and style is the same here in EU as in UK :)

The higher test curve does not necessarily equate to more fish playing power, but does to casting.

It is rod action as well as the test curve, but rod action is not often included in the description.

This is my understanding, so others may correct me.

Tip action is casting, which are usually high test curves.

Progressive, where the rods bends through the blank in gradual step, or progression.

Through action, where the rod bends equally from tip to butt.

I feel far more comfortable playing fish on a through action rod than I do on a fast taper. With the fast taper I do get the worry of hookpulls, so have to loosen off at times, only just keeping a slight bend, so the fish doesn't disappear.

We have gotten into the trend for short rods, big high test curves for stalking, yet you can put far more fighting power from a lower test curve into a fish, and feel it on a through action.

I have caught some big fish on Lure, Avon or Barbel specialist rods from snaggy areas, the rod control is much improved.
