nickfishing Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Hi there again i hav been watching videos on youtube and si have seen peaple use over 1 foot hooklength when carp fishing(bolt rig) What ae the advantages of this ? Quote
jules007 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 i would say when fishing over silt a long hooklink can be a good idea Quote
nickfishing Posted March 10, 2011 Author Report Posted March 10, 2011 do you think it is better to use around 6-8inchs?? for clay bottoms? Quote
carpman2904 Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Hi there is no set length for hair rigs i have proved many times this depends on the lake you are fishing. I have tried 6 inch rigs and caught lots of big carp, then tried that menthod on another lake and never had a run.. Changed to a short rig 3 inches and started to catch... So you have to try a number of things and see what works on that lake... If the lake is very silty then use a popup works a treat Quote
Guest keenook Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Do not use a long hooklink when fishing over particle or massed baits! Quote

beanz Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Do not use a long hooklink when fishing over particle or massed baits! i caught my pb(31-12) over hemp n tigers with a 18" braid hook lenght followed that up the next morning with a 20lb leather Quote
carpman2904 Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 i to have had many carp on long hook lengths.. also had a few that i never knee were on.. which is why i dont like using long hook rigs... Quote
charlieg Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 i to have had many carp on long hook lengths.. also had a few that i never knee were on.. which is why i dont like using long hook rigs... Is that down to a long hooklink or did another factor contribute to you not knowing the fish was on. It could have been your lead set-up, your alarms many other things to consider and not just to blame the rig itself Quote
