crafty44carp Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 whats the longest rig u have used and the shortest rig and why ? Quote
craigmarky Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 the longest i have used was bout 6 feet long it was a zig rig to get just under the surface. The shortest is bout 4 inch for small pva bags. Quote
chrisjames Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 i have used up to 7ft long rigs when using a zig rig in the summer and sometimes the winter when the carp are cruising higer in the water and have used a rig as small as 3 inches when i am looking for quicker indication and fishing for less warey carp Quote
neilscatchin Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 15 ft or more for zigging down to about 1.5 inches on the bottom because not many have the confidence to go that short and it works Quote
davegrim Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 one of my fav.rigs is a 2 1/2 inch rig fished with a pop up straight from the lead, its cought me many a carp, when my traditional 8-10 inch rig has sat quiet,my theory is that longer rigs can be picked up and move far more without bite indication, however, short rigs only realy work well on clear bottoms,or just light litter Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 The Shortest was about 2.5cms long. The longest was 3metres for Zig Rigging. For a bait fished on the Bottom though, the longest I have used is about 60cms Quote
drpopup Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 i use 8 to 10 inches long for good results Quote
salokcinnodrog Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 i use 8 to 10 inches long for good results The Majority of Anglers at the Moment are using rigs between 6-9inches long. Just being different and fishing longer or shorter than the "Usual" can cause the Carp some confusion. Short Rigs work best over Beds of Bait or Bags where the Carp is hoovering up the Bait and you need to make them run to get some indication Quote
courtz Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 longest is a 14 foot zig shortest is a 2 inch braid for in a pva bag Quote
northy07 Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Pit i fish....4inch Silty water i fish....10inch Quote
ouchthathurt Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 i tend to use 4''-6'' links, then adjust them to suit the hookhold, if im getting hookpulls or poor hookholds, i tend tolengthen them by an inch at a time untill the hookhold improves. i tend to try and use the hooklength for the situation, rather than rely n haing the same set lengths for everything.
