moorsey Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 I know this is going to sound like "blowing my own trumpet" but I can't resist adding this post. [and I have paid for the advertising lol] With 7 anglers set up on our lake we had nobody fishing the Southern Arm. With some patches of weed showing and red hot, still conditions I was convinced that the fish would be "drinking in" the oxygen being given off by the weed. By Monday, still no-one wanted to move so I decided to do a short session half way down the arm. I set up in "Leaning Tree" and cast over the weed to fish in the far bank clearings under the forest trees. I fished 1.5 ounce running rigs with no tubing nor leaders and used Tiger Line fluoro main line with a Ghost/braid combi hook link. My bait was Infinity Baits Caviar and Black Pepper and I put about 100 freebies over each rod. To cut a long story short, in 42 hours I managed to land 10 carp weighing:- 31.03 lb, 31.12 lb, 33.15 lb, 34.00 lb, 35.01 lb, 35.08 lb, 36.10 lb, 37.05 lb, 37.08 lb [all mirrors] and one common of 51.02 lb. [new PB common] Quote
plowmanccfc Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Hi Keith, sounds like a good session well done hows my asylum swim fishing would like to get down to you next year but as im getting married next august it may well have to wait till 2012 Jamie had an English 40 the other week a stunner at that, he's well chuffed. a mini social is on the cards i think! How did bob finish up? see you soon dan Quote
moorsey Posted August 11, 2010 Author Report Posted August 11, 2010 Hi Dan Thanks mate. Bob hasn't had any more yet but the fact that his 42.00 was the leather which we thought was dead has made this a very special week. Both his fish and my common were not banked at all last year so how weird is that? Keith Look forward to seeing you again mate. Quote
plowmanccfc Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 strange, what gave you the impression it was dead in the 1st place, well say hello to bob and the family from me! tight lines Quote
moorsey Posted August 11, 2010 Author Report Posted August 11, 2010 strange, what gave you the impression it was dead in the 1st place, well say hello to bob and the family from me! tight lines We didn't spot it at the drain down but with 7 of us all catching fish and check weighing them [plus all the mud] it obviously slipped past. plowmanccfc Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 oh right, well good news then, i still feel that i have some unfinished business with your lake so hope to see you soon.. Quote
bobstains Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 still no-one wanted to move so I decided to do a short session half way down the arm. To cut a long story short, in 42 hours lol I love your short sessions. cracking result in that space of time. Quote
moorsey Posted August 21, 2010 Author Report Posted August 21, 2010 MOORLAND FISHERIES ROBIN “RIG-SHY” EDEN’S RECORD BREAKING WEEK 21ST AUGUST 2010 Hi everyone. Well I’ve known Robin for a few years now and new he was a special angler with all of the necessary skills and a fantastic amount of water-craft but, even so, I was not prepared for the week that I have just had the honour to watch. Before I get on to Robin’s stat’s let me first say a well done to Len Young who came out for a 48 hour session to wish Robin happy 40th birthday and managed to bank 10 carp [8 of which were thirty plus] including “The Pipe-Smoker” common at 44.10 lb. Brilliant angling and well done mate. Now on to Robin’s facts and figures. His catch totalled up to 1743.04 lb of fish in less than a full week’s fishing. He arrived on Friday morning and spent the day socialising and walking the lake. He then set up in Pampas, having found some fish in the weed, and even then he offered the swim to Bob, who was staying until Wednesday, and was more than happy to find another swim to fish. He started fishing before breakfast Saturday morning and had landed 2 fish almost immediately. He continued to catch fairly regularly until Monday morning when he informed me that he hadn’t had a bite since 2am and felt that the fish had moved away. Another short walk and he found them again in front of The Oaks and down the Southern arm, again in among the weed beds where I had caught from the previous week. He didn’t fish for a good part of Tuesday as he drove down to Lyon airport to collect Len and this trip was repeated on Friday evening to take Len back. Unfortunately I was unable to join in with fishing with my good friends as my family were also holidaying with us and I don’t get to see my two elder daughters often enough as it is. Robin remained in The Oaks for the rest of the week and carefully fed and caught regularly. I believe that he used around 20 kg of Infinity Baits boilies during the week. Here are his totals for the week:- 52 fish in total including 4 catfish of 25.00 lb, 35.00 lb, 35.14 lb & 49.08 lb. 48 carp which included 35 over 30.00 lb of which 20 were over 35.00 lb and 7 were over 40.00 lb. He landed 1 double, 4 low twenties and 8 upper twenties and the thirties and above are listed below. LOW THIRTIES 32.04 lb, 31.08 lb, 30.00 lb, 31.08 lb, 34.10 lb, 33.02 lb, 30.14 lb, 30.08 lb, 32.06 lb, 31.08 lb, 34.12 lb, 32.00 lb, 32.10 lb, 34.00 lb, 34.08 lb. UPPER THIRTIES 36.12 lb, 37.10 lb, 35.08 lb, 35.06 lb, 39.14 lb, 36.10 lb, 39.02 lb, 35.14 lb, 37.02 lb, 38.00 lb, 37.14 lb, 36.00 lb, 36.12 lb. FORTIES 46.00 lb mirror [“Chunky”] 41.00 lb common [new forty] 40.04 lb mirror [new forty] 40.06 lb common [new forty] 40.14 lb mirror [new forty] 44.08 lb common [“Nelson” at best ever weight and Robin’s 50th fish of the week] 47.06 lb mirror [“Benign” at best ever weight] Simply by reading the weights of Robin’s fish it would seem safe to suggest that we should expect to see 10 of his thirties become forties for the autumn once they start on the proper pre-winter feeding spell. I think that we should also be prepared to see some of the recently un-caught, known fish such as “Clover”, “The Unknown” and “The Hoover” join “Waddle” and “The Long Common” in the fifties club. All of the fish seem to be holding fantastic weights for mid-summer and it seems that it is the amount of food holding in amongst the weed beds [masses of bloodworm in the roots and thousands of snails on the stems] which is producing the free protein, body-building “supplement” which is maintaining weight and condition for these fish. I don’t want to wish my life away but Lord only knows what next spring holds in store for us. Keith Quote
plowmanccfc Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Robin, is that the lad that was fishing the week before we got there Keith! top result bet he was well chuffed, well done guys Quote
moorsey Posted August 29, 2010 Author Report Posted August 29, 2010 Well we are in the middle of our two weeks summer hols and have just returned from a relaxing stay in the camargue. With the lack of fishing while the lake and its stock get a well earned rest and some free food I have been able to look back through the catch records and they suggest that we have seen more than 180 carp [possiblt 200+] of 36.00 lb or greater banked this year already, with the big weight gains still to come. Our average weight now appears to be around the 33.00 lb mark and growing. I would just add that there are obviously still some twenties and even the occasional double to be seen but it seems that you are more likely to catch a thirty plus than one below this figure. coops_northants Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 I saw Robins result on there the other week on the blog, What a fantastic result. I would say that it was suprising but the fact Robin is a class act and the lake was due to throw up a real belter for someone. I night see you out there again next year keith. Any space in september of last week of august? Quote

moorsey Posted September 11, 2010 Author Report Posted September 11, 2010 The day has started bright clear and calm with early morning mist and water temp of 19 degrees. The 7 departing anglers have just left and none of them fished last night so there is nothing to add to their 6 day tally which ended as:- 27 fish landed including 5 cats to 61.08 lb carp of:- 1 double 2 low twenties 4 upper twenties 7 thirties 6 forties [40.00 lb, 40.02 lb, 44.01 lb, 45.02 lb, 46.00 lb, 47.08 lb] 2 fifties [50.08 lb, 52.09] I'm sure that all of the lads would admit that most of them were here for a social as much as the fishing and were happy to pick a swim and remain static rather than moving onto fish so with that in mind I think that, as a group, they did pretty well with the big fish. I would just add that the beginning of the week saw a LOT of fish lost because of tight clutches and trying to bully them so some of those lost fish would have included some more big fish without doubt. moorsey Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 I have just bade farewell to last weeks "Full House" crew and although I am waiting for the detailed breakdown of their catch I can say that they caught 39 carp and 4 catfish and the carp included at least 17 thirties [to 39.15 lb] and 10 forties [to 49.15 lb]. Well done fellas it has been a pleasure to meet you all. [especially Chris the top netsman. lol.] Quote
david1951 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 There are a lot of sceptical people out there in the carp world, including me with no points to score on this occasion!! I think Keith's report of a record week is great, if true. 1 of Moorlands main supporter from another forum there, Keith not on the lake and how many anglers fishing in total (?) and the 2 guys catching a total of over 10% of the biggest fish landed all season?? What were the other 200 guys doing the rest of the season while Keith was on site, after all we have all read his own personal catch reports which are impressive, probably true but I have to say boastful and probably wind anglers up who have struggled there!! Keith I am sorry to post this on here, but with such a successful lake why are you spreading the gospel (and paying to sponsor) on more forums? Word and mouth is the best way to get bookings!! I actually wish you every success, but there is room for improvement, take a back seat and don't boast about what you have caught etc., I have probably caught more 50's in 1 year than... enough of that!! Best advice is 4get the forums and rely on recommendations, trust me you will get more respect!! I am looking for another venue to recommend people who can't get on a certain venue, but you are putting people off. Hope you take this in the context it is intended. edited for swearing. gaz Quote
moorsey Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Hi David. I am somewhat surprised that you suggest that Robin could be lying and I will get him to answer you in person when he gets back from his trip to another French lake where he is taking the place apart at the moment. Personally I get a big buzz from fishing my own lake and I will continue to do so and will publicise my captures in order to show its potential. I also feel that the only way to be able to give anglers good advice is to have fished the place regularly and that advice has payed off this week with one new angler upping his PB from 26 to 38 to 51.00 lb. I like the way my lake is progressing and so do most of my regulars but thank you for your concern. Keith Quote
ralphj Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Hi David I do tend to agree with you I posted on here a little while back that if you have to keep pushing your lake then you cant be that busy. There are some lakes on another forum that seem to have thousands of threads and posts, yet if anyone asks if someone can suggest a place to go the owners of said lakes come on and say we have space. I would have thought a decent lake would not have to keep pushing itself surely the fish and the service do the talking. I did get slated a little while back on the same subject but still maintain that until it was sold recently Maison de Lac Bleu did not sell itself on every forum nationwide it sold itself on what it had by word of mouth. Its the only way forward if your any good people will know about you the carp fishing fraternity has good jungle drums Quote
Gaz Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 if keith or anyuone else pays to advertise then he has the right to keep the advert going and to keep the members of ony forum he advertises on up to date, after all the reason he has the lake is to attract carpers and to make an honest living is it not? why do bmw ford mercedes and any other car firm keep advertising when they have sold so many cars? the way to be succesfull is to keep the NAME AND ADVERT GOING SO PEOPLE REMEMBER YOU. dreamlake advertise do they not? linear advertise as well, probably the most well known french and english lakes going but they still advertise. moorsey Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Thanks Gazmeesh and can I just say that part of the reason that Maison was sold was that their customer base had declined so far that the fish were losing weight through lack of feed. I don't fish on here very often but really look forward to my oportunities when they come round. Keith Quote
moorsey Posted September 25, 2010 Author Report Posted September 25, 2010 The lads have just left and the totals for the week are:- 3 catfish 31 carp made up as follows:- 2 doubles 1 low twenty 6 upper twenties 17 thirties 4 forties [commons of 40.00 lb & 45.00 lb (Nelson)and mirrors of 48.00 lb (The Eighteen) & 48.00 lb (Lumpy)] 1 fifty [mirror of 51.00 lb (The Hoover)] Overall average weight for the week of 33.12 lb. cowley1963 Posted October 1, 2010 Report Posted October 1, 2010 I have just returned from Moorlands, first time there. I have read this complete thread and will simply state things as i see them. We did the draw for swims and I came out last All the fish were showing towards the dam wall end of the lake, and by the time my pick came along, that end of the lake was pretty much taken, so i plumped for the entrance to the southern arm swim called 'the boneyard'. I ended up with 9 fish including 4 40's, very nice! The fish seemed to come out from different areas at different times of the week, so I can easily see how Robin managed his fantastic haul if he kept mobile and 'on' the fish. I tend to think of French holiday fishing as a mixture of fishing and holiday, but if Robin worked hard to stay with the shoals, all I can say is well done and great angling! His catch is definitely feasible. Keith fished from the dam wall for some of the week, and was very helpful. We had a mix of angling abilities and nothing was too much trouble. It was interesting to see his rigs, baiting approach etc, and some of our fish caught were due to mimicking Keiths approach. I really enjoyed my week here. It's not easy, you have to work at it. Proper fishing i'd call it. I for one recommend Moorlands. I'll be back! Cheers, Cowley. Quote
david1951 Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Well done m8, 4 40's on any lake in France is a good result!! So 2 of you have now had almost 1/8 of all of the 40's caught there so far this season (according to Keith's stats, which I am sure are correct and not exaggerated, hat's off to that)! Other venues advertise so many big fish (and they rarely get caught!!) It doesn't really matter though, but what have all of the other guys been doing wrong who have fished there or has the place been empty a lot of the weeks this year, which explains the excessive advertising?? Keith I think that is a fair comment?? Quote
cowley1963 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks David, I'm still full of it To be honest, I don't know the complete stock details. All of the lads on our week caught, and we're going back twice next year We loved the place that much! It's not easy, but French lakes aren't the pushover they used to be. I like the balance and feel of Moorlands. 15 odd acres stuffed with too many fish would be called catching not fishing When we turned up, it was full. We hired the lake for our week, then it was full again the following week. I don't know how hard it is advertised, but it seems to have paid off. I'd book early if your going. Thanks again, might see you on the bank one day. All the best cowley. Quote

Keith I think that is a fair comment?? Hi David. We only ever seem to see odd comments from you about other fisheries in France. It gives me [and another couple of fishery owners that I know] the impression that you are worried about the competition. None of the anglers who have fished here have "been doing anything wrong" as you put it. This year we have now seen 90 carp over 40.00 lb banked including 7 fifties [another new one this week already] and that shared between 200 anglers is a good average in my book. As anyone with half a brain would understand, it is the luck of the draw as to who catches which fish and our lake tends to reward the better angler because it is normally those anglers who are prepared to work that little bit harder to find their fish. Moorlands will never be a goldfish bowl nor will it ever have one or two swims that you must get into in order to catch. It is proper carping and I [and quite a lot of my customers] love it just that way. As far as advertising goes I will continue to do it my way and when I feel that I need some advice I will be sure to ask. Keith Quote
david1951 Posted October 5, 2010 Report Posted October 5, 2010 90 big fish (over 40lbs) between 200 anglers isn't bad!! Quote
