  1. This time of year my lake is like bivvy town, fri-sun (sometimes ive counted more bivvys then there are swims??) This works to my advantage though I hope your health improves mate, my doctor as strongly advised me to go fishing as much as possible. So I ain't going to argue with him Cheers mate looking forward to getting on the river, always good to learn something new.
  2. Hiya bud I fished it earlier this year & had 3 or 4 small fish, but due to health issues I couldn't get out. Im starting to get out again now (thankfully) ive had a few walks around & have seen the two big uns, so ill be out there from next week. One of the chaps I got to know as been doing well fly fishing for em, so I might have to learn how to fly fish lol. Im also off down the severn at the end of the month (bridgenorth) so im looking forward to that. How you been getting on ?
  3. Are you still on the lake, any update ?. Nice job catching five & glad you managed to eat your sandwich Good luck if your still out there.
  4. John Murphy, Adagio in D minor. One of my favorite songs. Max Richter, under her skin. Dr has told me to learn to breath to the beat of music to help with my panic attacks. So im practicing with them two first...
  5. There are two pools that side of the road bud. We used to fish the pool further up for good perch. Im not 100% on who it belongs to, we presume it was the horse riding schools land. We never had any complaints from anyone fishing there, I would have a walk further up the hill & your find the smaller pool, there is a stream quite close to it so keep an eye out for that & your soon find it. Its alot easier to get to from the top of wendover as theres a path that leads onto the field. I use to do bits of work for one of the chairmen for oldhill, im going to try & get in touch with him again & see whats happening. In my eyes it seems the place was alot better when it was free to fish.
  6. Not yet bud, Im putting it of til after xmas to buy my bigger stuff. Might get something better suited in the sales, hopefully. I ended up using my normal bags on my last overnighter & regretted it as all the weight was near my arms .
  7. That sounds abit worrying, there were about 5/6 wardens back then. Im not sure if they were paid or volunteering, so it could be down to cuts or them not finding new people. Are the pools still being run by old hill ?.
  8. Thats a shame, though it'll be there if i ever fish the seven next summer for roach & chub.
  9. So they are still at it then I dont think ill ever fish it again thinking about it id rather have fond old memories then new bad ones. Have you seen any wardens about ?. In the 90's you always bumped into one around the swan pool. Even when we used to night fish (it was allowed then) we would see them between 12-3am, we would have a chat with them & their last words would always be "keep the fire under control & the rifles covered" (you'd get five years if we did that these days). I moved from springfield around 97 as did alot of my friends & I think it slowly went downhill not long after that.
  10. Ive been wanting to try fishing with a centrepin reel for ages but kept putting it off. Reading this thread & watching some videos on youtube I think its time to finally have a go. Chapmans have got a nice stillwater purepin for £20. There are two models 4" & 4 3/4". Which model would be best suited for canal use with a 10ft float rod ?. Dont want to spend much to begin with incase I dont get on with it, plus it comes in a presentation box so it will look nice on the shelf next to my fishing books if I dont use it. 11. Nice one bud, I always found the top two pool hard to catch from back when I was a kid. The rusty (bubble hole) used to be good for pike & perch. I may have a trip over there in the spring.
  12. I used to fish the swan pool (bottom pool) all the time in the 90's for crucians & tench. Most of my fishing memories are from that place. the last time I was there was around 2008/9 to help fit the pegs & get rid of weeds on the top pool. It did get hit quite hard by foreign otters around that time too. In the summer stalking the bottom pool with dog biscuits or bread was the best method for the bigger carp too.
  13. Its not nice to see leafs on the hook everytime you retrieve it. One of my favorite swims is opo an island where the bigger fish patrol is unfishable to me as its swamped with them plus theres a stroung under tow & on top of that its the coots favorite hang out. Im really hoping my change of tactics & being able to bait up in the dark this weekend will pay off.
  14. Cheers lads Ive just checked it out on their site & its £30 now plus they've got a store in brum so think a trip up there next week is in order. Their doing the 50l versions for 20 so I may buy two of them, one for gear & one for clothing etc.
  15. Cheers bud ill have a look, did you get it off the net ?
  16. Cheers bud ill have a look at them. Ive got to walk to my pool for the foreseeable future so I want to compact all my stuff as much as possible.
  17. Anyone using these atm, if so are they any good & how wide are they. Chapmans have got them on offer atm at 25 quid & I could do with a couple of square bags for my barrow. Or any other recommendations you guys may have. I wouldnt mind one big bag that I could put on the base of my barrow, but cant be longer then 65cm one way, as thats the amount of space between the front & rear bars. I can remove the side bars.
  18. You could always try something different in your second or third rod. Im always looking at improving my rigs so ill always have a slight change on my third & record how it performed in my rig book. Just an idea
  19. The fish I had the other day was over a leafy bottom, I was using a bottom bait with plastic corn to bring it down slower. What I will add is: Before I fished I went over a small area with a sea fishing lead that as 4 prongs fitted. So that may help you too, cheaper & I think less off putting for the fish then a rake.
  20. From the album: My catches

Im afraid ive only got this photo of the common I caught. I was sure I took one of it on the unhooking mat. It is 17lb 6oz though. Scales were zeroed & are normally accurate give or take an oz.
  21. From the album: My catches

First decent fish ive caught since returning to fishing. Fully scaled 8lb mirror carp. Corn/pellet
