I'm the same as I don't get many chances I take every chance as they come but wanted to know if there were some tactics that I could use to better my chance when doing so. As I did a post before and someone gave a real detailed comment on the pressure side and mention where the fish would more likely be throughout the water column I think he said that high pressure pushes them Down and if so would work in my favour being more of a bottom bait angler
-
Guys I know a lot of you wouldn't leave the house to go fish when there's a real high pressure but due to work commitments I'm not going to get many chances to fish for the next 8weeks or so and I go back to work Wednesday so leaves me Monday Tuesday to get a 24hour session in but checking the weather there's a fairly strong westerly wind on Monday not to strong on Tuesday with a increase of high pressure just my luck now I don't want to not go just because of the weather says not to as there have been times before when the conditions went right and still done well if not better. So I was wondering if there were any carp anglers on here that do fish during high pressure and how you go about doing so..as th lake I fish is a well stocked commercial so there's always a chance.

I've found a landing mat on sale but not sure on the size as I need a bigger one but don't understand the dimensions. So here it is 1.32 x 0.35 what is that in inches

That's what I've done I've stopped following the latest and greatest and gone back to a real simple rig and its working so don't want to change only improve if need be now I get the hair side of it but now how do you know what shape hook to use? As this is mainly what I change and lately I've gone for a bigger hook a size 6 and seem to landing more fish when using a bigger hook (which is a esp raptor wide gape I think) when I would normally use a size 7/8 fang. And are there thing I can research up on at home instead to get a better understanding of baiting strategies on different bottoms just to give me half an idea.
-
How can I get a better understanding of how a rig works? As I have a rig that works but I'm always changing the hook or length of the hair and never know weather it helping or making it worse I'm always guessing not really knowing what to change and what to keep

I see you guys keep mentioning about putting saw dust in them could I not put ground bait or some crushed boilie or even a liquid so that they will take on some flavour simular to my hook bait

Any tips on storing maggots as I want to use these through out winter but don't want to keep buying them and wasting them as I've just got back from and overnighter and still got two and a half pints left at the moment I've just got them in the shed in a air tight container

I was talking to a friend about getting some waders and he questioned me on if I really need them or would be better off just getting some waterproofs which h got me thinking do I need them and what's the difference? The way I see it I already have a waterproof coat and with having some waders ill have the bottom half covered all in one. But as I don't really do any river fishing and the lakes I fish don't have many swimming where you would need to get in the water so do I really need them? And then there's the price surely it's cheaper just to get waders than to get waterproof bottoms and footwear. But with never owning a pair of waders I don't how comfy they are and if there really something you want to be wearing all day. So what would you guys suggest waders or just waterproofs?

Thinking of getting some chest waders but don't really want to go all out and spend 200quid so what would I look for to tell if there any good?

See with them being predators I always thought they were like the pike and come alive this time of year as we are now in pike season. But you guys are right, I've been doing a bit of research and they said the same thing that they shut down over winter. So here's my next question fishing this venue a few times before struggling to pick out the carp from the cat would now be a better time if they shut down worse than carp or would it just make it harder for both as if it only going to make things harder ill rather just fish where I've been fishing and catching as at the moment the only thing drawing me in is that my friends are going and there's a better chance of catching a bigger fish

Have you used liver before as I tried it once but didn't have any luck but how ever I threw in what I had left at the end of the session to return the next day with someone in that swim claiming they were hooking cat but not catching them. Do you use chicken liver or lamb
-
I know this is a carp forum but I need your help as a few friends of mine are fishing a cat and carp water over the weekend d and have invited me to join them. Which got me thinking do I don't I. Now I know carp shut down when it gets really cold and what not but what about the cat fish do they react the same or in a complete different manner? So if anyone's fished for cats during winter and got and advice would be great.

That's a fair point about the leaves masking the hookbait. I didn't even think about that so if I was to still attempt to fish in a leafy area do you reckon that a pop up hovering at a inch or two would help combat the leaves masking the hook and bait??
-
That's usually where I fish lol

The lake beds that I fish are either a clay type bottom or a silty bottom wether they are the same I don't know but anyway. I normal use a standard bottom bait rig with soft flurocarbon instead of braid which usually does me good but I went fishing the other day and couldn't help but notice all the dead leaves and I've never really fished this time of year so with the leaves making the ground that bit softer do I have to change anything I.e longer rigs, lighter weights to help tackle the leaves?

Guys I've fished a venue which has a few lakes and is always quite busy so you never really get to fish the same spot twice but more to the point every time I've been I've blanked receiving knocks but not takes so I thought that it could be down to my set up as I haven't really fished much silt lakes. Now I know alight lead is a good start but with the rig side what's a good starting point say is it best to have min 10inches or am I just best going with a helicopter set up similar to the chod minus the leadcore.

Guys I'm looking at getting a barrow/trolley but I want a reliable one not one with reasonable space any recommendations not fussed what the make or colour or what not just don't want to by one that breaks on me

Yonny do you not think it would work on Say a combi rig/hinged stiff rig so that your using minimum triggalink and still getting the elastic effect. As on the video I found it from he was using the triggalink on a combi style rig and caught some big fish
-
What type of rig was you using

Can you use a Knotless knot on braid as I've been using it all the time and recently watched a video on Jim Shelley and he says Knotless knot are for mono just got me wondering if I was using the best knot without weakening the braid at the same time as another video said that some knots can weaken the braid
-
I just watched a video on YouTube, kevin Nash monster pursuit and this guy had this elastic braid called triggering I've never herd of it before but like the way it works so I've just purchased it. Anyone on here got any experience with it? Can you u use it for any rig treating it like a normal braid or are there limited options and what's the best type of not for it?
-
Is it just a feature finder or can you use it while on a fish
-
Anyone got any experience with this. As I've been watching some underwater footage and want to get some of my own and been looking at the fish spy which would give me what I'm after but after watching a video on it its a lot bigger than I thought it which made me think are they any good and are they worth the money. So was wondering if any has any experiance/advice before I go rushing in in and spending £250 on something that's not all that

I don't know much about the leads and how to use them effectively as different lake beds/distantces require different lead set up but then would it also depend on what rig your using as well? Any basic guidelines will do

What the best inline weight set up or weight with swivel set up? Light green or dark green hooklink? Pop up or bottom bait?
