  1. I've never understood how these type of rigs catch But there's no doubt that they do?
  2. It's so that you can have a change in the stiffness and or suppleness of your hook-length. Rigs can be made using mono which is either stiff or soft, there are several theories on using stiff and soft through the hook length to help hooking; so various monos were joined together, then someone came up with the idea of coating braid so that you can peel back the stiff coating to leave the supple braid.
  3. Welcome to the forum Pete, do they mean coated braid? in which case this simply means stripping the coating off of the 'coated' braid: This leaves the softer braid at the hook end, and a slightly stiffer hook length.
  4. Fair play. There are a couple of lakes in Barby (on the way towards Dav off the A361) that might be worth a look if you're in the area, nicely managed mixed fishery. Might be a bit more difficult than the res, but you should get a few, and it's a much nicer venue.
  5. I told you! At least we got away with a one liner
  6. Hi there, and welcome to the forums. What have you tried? When you say ditches, how wide and long are they and how are they fed (where does the water come from and where does it go)? I haven't fished over there (New Mexico?) but if you can describe the ditches in a bit more detail (pictures would help as well) then maybe the forum members can help you get a plan together.
  7. Now you've done it Seriously though, I think it's a bit far from South Yorkshire - not all roses are the same
  8. As above, but will add: make sure the knot is kept wet this will also help reduce the snagging.
  9. As an alternative; on the concrete swims, can you put a bank stick in the margin? Then if the water level is lower than the concrete rest the butt on the concrete, or use a bait box, bucket etc to rest your butt on? But yeah, otherwise as the others have said use the pod, it does the job; you could always take it into your local tackle shop who may be able to fix it for you.
  10. I used it in 6lb; I thought it was thicker and a bit stiff for float fishing (compared to 6lb sensor and using pellet wagglers), at 12lb I would say you'll struggle to cast any distance without a reasonable weight attached, but that's just my findings.
  11. I was only joshing, there are a few places around here that seem to catch the wind quite well, nearly joined the fish a few times trying to set up a brolly
  12. As you have the Warrington book, I would concentrate on that because if you were to get the other book - you really wouldn't know which water to fish. You'll soon get a feel for the water you fish, so long as you fish it rather than wonder if you should be elsewhere. it's called buyer's remorse
  13. Some recent post on the subject What carp rods? i need some 3 piece carp rods , could you help me ? Help with rods Carp rod sizes?? Decent set up that won't bankrupt me What's not too pricey? And what's not massive weights?
  14. As if to prove a point, on another thread; not so far away
  15. Silkweed catches. Having caught on a bare hook (checking the depth), I know you can, but would feel safer with a bait on - the plastic weed on the hook though I think has got legs since it gives the fish more to suck on. Sunshine did or do a range of camouflage rigs which is kind of similar.
  16. You'll have to change your name to Baron Sugar sacking all those people
  17. Some words are automatically edited, I cannot list them, but they will change to stinky winky or [censored], maybe even new things since the changes to the forum
  18. There are plenty of carp in canals, and some good sized ones to boot, so go for it.

Size is not the issue (as such), it's all down to the buoyancy of the top bait compared to the density of the bottom bait. As they can vary there is not a set formula based on size alone. Just experiment and try them out in the margins to get some idea of how they might sit when cast out.
  20. Is there any update on this? Are they going ahead? Have they found another way?
  21. My rigs can look quite childish as well, so don't be put off, they still catch There should be a bit where he explains how she adjusts them to suit - it would be difficult to produce that effect at all depths, might be easier to shave your boilie a bit, the alternative is to add extra weight to your hook maybe putty or a split shot.
  22. Tie some string onto your next one and hang it around your neck, you won't lose it then
  23. I've heard it used that way, but I know it as I described above; English is such a funny language; I can't remember which comedian it was, but he was talking about a trip to America and asking the concierge of the hotel to get him some fags (Bob Monkhouse?)
