  1. nope used 14mm banana popups on a balanced rig, caught a few, and a fair number of the top on dog biscuits, plus off the botom with boilies, meat, corn and maggots Bowza
  2. do a search for Magic Bread love it Bowza
  3. what ever peg you can get on , put on at the rod tip and another as far as u can chuck it with a pva bag having the wind in your face seems to be a good tactic on there as Alan says the fish have been through the mill, check them over and its not uncommon to find more than your hook in the poor things Bowza
  4. as I am used to using pva mesh tubing , at first I know what you mean about getting the knot close and tight, but with a little practice I can now make very tight presentations, a like them tight after watching one in the margin on a cold morning, explode as the pva melts and distribute i nice spread of offerings so practice, its all about sliding the knot tight down to the bait, or as in the video up to the bait, try different ways of holding the parcel to ease the use Bowza
  5. Gnorty , the quick clip is a good tip , i missed this in my first season, part of most of my rigs now, Bowza
  6. Ouch , how far do you travel from to get there? Bowza
  7. I would still give it a go, but plan a more afternoon session rather than an early one Bowza
  8. Leggs if truth be known , I threw my gear on the barrow still rigged up, with the intention of fishing the damn wall near the car, but lack of coffee and anything else to drink, plus my iffy tummy , it went in the car after a quick visit to the porta loo felt rough for the last few hours, all started Sunday morning when I woke up, hope it clears for weekend need to get out for another session somewhere, my try stanwick lakes mallard Bowza
  9. Well I said I would update, got to the car park for 6.45 no daughter with me as it was probably too cold for her, I walked round the left hand side to peg 88, it has a large bivvy area just behind it and a good mark using bouy no 4, traffic cone so I spoded out about 10-15 spods in a area to both sides of the bouy and about 10 yards short of it, I put my rods out with small pva mesh bags as well. Blanked, not a bleep, no one else was getting a run either, at around 14:30 I packed up and went back to car , ah well another day needs to be planned, cant wait for my other lake to re-open from close down. wind was comming over the damn wall and cold rain most of the day, small amount of sleet around 9am, Still it was relaxing beats a day in the office Bowza
  10. I was always taught by my old fella to air on the larger size when fishing, even in the canals fishing for roach perch etc. I would use nothing smaller than a size 12 for maggot or worm fishing, I fish a lake that has a lot of low to middle doubles, and fish a size 6 hook most of the time I have plenty of nice action Bowza
  11. i hope they open at 6.30 as i'll try and be there for then on Monday come rain or shine Bowza
  12. I'll be there with my daughter and a mate on Monday ill let u know was a lot out on sunday when i drove past Bowza
  13. I would also so somewhere around the £300 mark just for the tranquility Bowza
  14. Thanks keenook, Cough cough erm , i still not got around to getting Marker float, next time I am close to a tackle shop I'll go in just for that. I did drag a lead around on my spodrod a few other swims to try and get a feel, it just dragged back without any feeling on snags or gravely areas. thanks again Bowza
  15. Morning , I fished this lake yesterday morning, and blanked It is a 65 yard square sided pit dug to supply water for the farmers fields , not sure how old but would guess some 15-20 years it feels deep a sign said 16 foot but could be more, no marker float to measure , ill have one next time, I have seen the carp on the surface last year, so I know there are a fair few in there, and there are lots of silver fish also, yesterday I put out a bed of hemp and corn, with maggots mixed in , i then tried one rod with maize the other with a maggot clip, I was getting single nocks on the maggot clip rod , but put this down to posible silver fish, is this a correct assumption, on the maize i had what i feel to be a line bite, my line was sitting on a section of ice about 8 feet out then dropping down sharply to the deeper water. this is not going to put me off this venue, as I have seen fish, and I have seen what I hope are feeding trails of bubbles, the swim I chose was based on these bubbles as I stood on the bank looking for movement. shame these where on the edge of the ice. ok to my question , anyone know any stock details , and with the depth of water using a marker float set up how would i find if it is weedy an any places, as to me a new carper it feels like a large muddy bowl. thanks Bowza
  16. Mick the free lake is no longer free, six of those lake have been taken over by nene valley fisheries, (excuse the spellings) Jason posted on here last year explaining his plans, there have been delays, and if you go down the road near the bridge by rushden and diamonds football ground over the river, there is a track with the fisheries sign, the track is semi blocked off while work is being carried out, I spoke on the phone a week or so back, and things should be ready for March April hope that helps, as I am also looking for venues to fish in the valley Bowza
  17. think its a club water, carpking will know or coops Bowza
  18. Re the foam, its pva disolving foam people use, so ones its helped get the bait up to the surface, it does disolve and no risk to the fish , I am yet to try a zig rig myself Bowza
  19. whats all the water on the right of the A409 heading north as u go past drayton bassett on your left, where the canal runs along with the road for a while. Google earth is a fun tool Bowza
  20. im afraid I have no idea, i was happy with a 1lb bream back then, I rember the boats and the swans and we used to fish under the trees with the damn to our left near the east lancs road end Bowza
  21. cant wait to see the replies, 30 years since I fished there, with my old glass fibre match rod, had to get past 100's of gudgeon to hit the roach and bream. Do they still run power boats on there, the waves from them made float fishing difficult Bowza
  22. I have just emailed them for info , Clover looks an awesome pool Bowza
