  1. Great!! Big carp are hard enough to track down in Leicesteshire already without a bunch of idiots playing god and risking what little we have got
  2. I think one of them might be the Priory although i stand to be corrected
  3. I agree with Jonezy that the easiest way is to just use a " rotten bottom " of 3 - 4lb line. The one concern i have with these sort of rigs is that once the lead is ditched , should a breakage of the line occur then the fish will be trailing the leadcore until the leader maybe becomes snagged as there will be no lead to help the rig off the end of the leader, assuming it's set up heli' style Thinking about it, if it is set up for a chod rig and the leader is lost with a fish attached then in theory if the top bead on the leader is less than half way up, the end trailing below the fish will be the end where the rig needs to exit , making it virtually impossible If that makes sense ??? p.s I know that it's not what you asked for but being as the thread is in the interests of fish safety i thought it was worth mentioning. Sam.
  4. Put it in the catch reports section mate
  5. How did you draw that conclusion then ? In this thread 6 different waters / complexes are mentioned. Patshull, Earith, The Woolpack, Elstow , Ringstead and Ecton.Fair enough they may be waters that some have fished in the past or possibly the future but why would anyone come on a public forum and announce where they are currently fishing ? If you spout off about where you fish and then post in the catch reports section you won't need Columbo to realise that your water is going to be getting a lot busier than you would like very quickly . I go fishing for peace, tranquility and possibly a few fish ( if i'm lucky ). Why would i want to spoil that for myself and the other anglers who i would be fishing alongside ? If you look through the venues section you will find a shed load of waters. How did you think those threads came about ?Not from people being secretive surely Oh and yes, i would like a lake all to myself , Who wouldn't ????
  6. Very true, which is why i put "How do you know" Although my comment has nothing to do with the rig at all
  7. How do you know it's "in the mag's" then ?
  8. Same here mate, i read them in minutes Very informaitive
  9. There aren't that many in leicestershire TBH mate. I travel to Northant's myself as there are so many decent waters to go at it makes you sick I'm not sure about Warwickshire, the only one that i know of is Seeswood pool in Nuneaton. It's done a near 30 and i know of a few other twenties but being as you're after 30 + fish that's no use to you
  10. I remember they did a 2 part article on Patshull once that i would've liked to back order. I emailed them but never got a reply as usual, i guess a phone call would have been better.
  11. Nice I would really like to read that at some point
  12. Whenever i've been to Willesley i tend to catch every other trip. All but one of my fish have come from within 10ft from the bank. A couple of them were in water that was just over knee deep in which i placed my rigs by hand but that was in the summer . I haven't fished the place during the colder months though, sorry. I only do maybe one or two trips per year as it is normally rammed during the warmer months. I've found that the regular lads tend to fish the wooded side more than any other though they seem to be a friendly bunch which can't be bad Good luck.
  13. Nice one
  14. Ok , nice one. Good luck if you do decide to go for it. I want to get a few more under my belt before taking on a challnge like that
  15. I would love to have a crack at the place one day but i would be well out of my depth at the minute on a water like that. What article is that then Kev' as i would be interested in getting a back issue if it's quite detailed ?
  16. I think you just pay your money with Elstow and you're straight on. That's how it is with Pit 2 . I think it's 110 or 120 a year ? Not bad when there's an upper 40 in there. It is a mega head banger of a water though
  17. You have a PM.
  18. Sorry mate, not to clued up on Northant's tackle shops. I'm a Leaicester lad
  19. That's a pretty easy question to answer mate Northampton all the way. Loads more waters to go at and a shed load more big carp as well I live near Leicester and i travel to Northampton for my fishing now. There are loads of waters in Leicestershire but they're predominantly match waters / commercials that don't really offer much to the specimen angler. There are loads of waters to go at near Northampton. The Nene valley is lined with gravel pits that contain plenty of big carp Good luck.
  20. I guess it all depends on the swim you find yourself in. The only times that i've fished a river is when i've been up the Trent. I tend to use BIG leads ( 6 0z + ) to hold bottom and have the rod tips high to keep the line out of the water to prevent the drag moving the lead around. Due to having the lines high and bow string tight i tend to use quite long hook lengths , normally 3+ ft long , so that the only line in the vicinity of the bait is the actual hook length itself and not the mainline . Although saying that i caught my PB Barbel on a standard 6 inch coated braid rig when the river was in flood. My advice would be to just go for a simple knot less knot set up and vary the hook length if you are getting line bites / knocks. Like i say, i only have experience of the Trent which is a bit of an animal when it's in flood. If you were on a slower, less powerful river you might be able to backlead, use shorter rigs ....... etc'. The best thing is to just try different things and see what works for you . Personally i would keep it simple as, IMO, they won't be that " riggy " Good luck.
  21. Alright mate, I should be able to get you a few tips for tomorrow evening if that's OK If not , then good luck mate and welcome to the forum
  22. Oh right , i thought it sounded " local " as i live in Leicestershire.
  23. Sounds quite tasty to me, not too deep either What county is Ilkestone in ?
  24. seleb

    Lead wire

When lead is new it is very shiny but it does tarnish very easily so you may find that it will go nice and dull. I don't think that a few coils of lead wire up your line would be detrimental to the fishes welfare TBH.
  25. What about Patshull ? I know that the Wart has died but the commons in there are stunners and with the Wart dieing you might just get straight on, as there was a place when i checked where i was on the waiting list. If not this year then maybe next you might get in It'll be about 320 quid though
