Hope I have this under the right topic.
Here in SA we have plenty of "wild waters" and this makes for some great fishing and some major challenges. The general misconception a lot of people abroad have is that most if not all our venues are quick to reach. This unfortunately is not true and some excellent carping venues are as far as a 5-6hr drive from where I reside. With the economic pressure and the terrible state of some of our roads it is not always that easy so I have to target waters closer to home.
like every where else in the world we have our easier waters and some that is truly difficult. One of my favorite venues is about an hour and a half's drive from my place and are renowned for decent sized commons. Late November I did a session there again but for some reason the smaller carp, 13-15 pounders, were in abundance this session. It is not unheard of to catch these sized carp at the venue but not in the high quantities like I was experiencing.
Towards the end of my 7 day session I decided to look at something that might help to keep the small ones at bay. I remembered reading about what he called a cluster rig. Now he only had a pic of the cluster of maize (sweetcorn/corn) but did not explain how he made it.
So being kinda tired of landing 13 after 13 and the occasional 16 pounder I decided to make my own version of this cluster rig. My bait of choice was 14mm boilies, as this was one of the more preferred baits at the venue. A total of four hairs are tied into the rig with 4 - 14mm boilies on each hair. I then tied the hairs together between the 1st row( from hook) and last row of boilies to make the boilies cluster.
Unfortunately nothing was caught on this rig, as one of my buddies landed a 12 pounder that thought it a good idea to get tangled up in my cluster line, so after 12hrs it was out and we only had 24 hrs left.
I attached the picture to give a more graphic detail of exactly what this rig looked like, and would like to hear your thoughts. Would you think this to work as I know there are 50 and 40 pounders in the lake.
