  1. Well done that is a very hard water to fish, mostly big fish, but hard.my fishing friend believes he introduced the commons in there, taken from the river.Prior to that it used to be all koi and crucian.i hope he reads this post. He does not fish it any more as he thinks like me too tough.however i am sure this is just a start to what is there for you keen carpers.Good luck and tight lines.Macbilly
  2. Saw some interesting posts on nylon pressure on reel,a few turns of soft cotton string before spooling up with nylon really works well. Also drag washer smoothness is most important. Most important however is getting very sharp hooks or sharpening them.I used to do all these things, but alas now i am slack and lazy, but i used to do them and they realy worked.Go guys . macbilly
  3. to our new pommie carper.you wont need any other lakes.your set ups are great fun but simple methods work well ,keep all your results secret now you have got the best spot .cheers macbilly
  4. Wonderful photos of sydney carp, you young fishermen are going to suprise a lot of people, but not me.i have been on about big carp for a long time, caught a few ,lost a lot.photos not much good with cameras or computers.not bad with a fishing rod ,age has got to have its compensations.however i have no doubt you fellows are going into really big stuff.i think 50lb is very possible, for an angler who can think outside the square.dont get tied down with some of the method of the week ,a thing that has come into angling, try natural presentation, slack lines ,no lead, thats a start.cheers macbilly
  5. Yes to everything ,and its the best, try it.the hawksbury is the home of really big fish, but its hard to fish ,without local knowledge, next time you come here look me up macbilly

  14. do they still make those wicked stainless steel hooks?if they do never use them for any type of fishing not even for saltwater fishing.fish cannot get rid of them they will not rust out.i saw a young angler using them ,and pointed out the danger of them he said :yeah dad "and took some of my hooks carbon steel,so let us pass some comment on them for young? anglers tight lines macbilly
  15. hi re your trip, you should enquire at any fishing shop whereyou can obtain a modest telescopic rod suitable for a 5kg line hooks size 8.then buy 2 tins of sweetcorn.then go down to the lake &catch carp .fishings fun you dont need much to enjoy it.good luck macbilly

  17. HI HAD A TRIP TO THE PARK WHERE OUR MODERATOR STAYED.ITS NOT MY FAVOURITE SPOT.HOWEVER I WAS DRAGGED THERE BY HENRY,WHO HAD PREBAITEDD IT FOR TWO DAYS WITH CHICKEN PELLETS.30 MINS LATER HE HAD THREE CARPALL ABOUT 8 KG THESE WERE WEIGH E,D ON ELECTRONIC SCALES. THEN HE DROPPED A BIG ONE,AND HOME WE WENT.ME I NEVER HAD A BITE ALL DAY.SO THERE ARE BIG FISH WHERE HE STAYED.NEXT TIME HE COMES ??????? MACBILLY
  18. now you are a tempory pomme ,are you paying for your fishing spots.do you use those exspensive boilies, and sit out on freezing cold nights to catch a big fat lovley carp that love being photographed.dont you miss the snakes the big spiders and our friendly mossies & sometimes our big very wild carp.cum ome son.dont forget to bring me some english fishing tackle this time tight lines macbilly
  19. right big baits for big fish.twice the size of a walnut with a soft bait i e bread gives the littles some thing to bite on and attract bigger carp to build up confidence.big carp cannot keep weight up on particles.in england we feed them up with boilies.it dont happen here mate.they are omniverous .small fish are part of their diet plus anything else.i had a report from the diver who inspects the dam base walls & he said they are big.i have unconfirmed reports of 50lb plus, and my own experiences leave me in no doubt .however i am going to try maize but how am i going to get it on a 2/0 hook dumb ass aint i.tight lines macbilly
  20. caught a few carp in my time, never used maize,is it a wonder bait? seems to a lazy bloke like me a lot o f preporation.boil it age it smell it.then put large quantities in for ground bait .doesnt it bring in small fish .doesnt it bust the rule of little & ofton .if you fish a small grain poped up dont the small carp keep taking disturbing the swim.the only rule that works for me is BIG BAITS FOR BIG FISH .and lastly how do you keep your wife happy taking the pressure cooker and stinking the joint out with old maize.she makes enough fuss about a few maggots in the fridge and they are in a box tight lines macbilly
