  1. Well well, farting carp! Now there's a thought. I will certainly bung a tin or two into the bait bucket for future use.......wonder how carp feel about toast.... check my blanking thread you'll see i was outcaught by a lady using toast and marmalade swear i'll use it when i can get the marmalade to stay on the hook
  2. i use mantis and tye both rigs , horses for courses, both are right in certain situations
  3. i only use fluro as hooklink don't they sink?
  4. finaly got the beachcaster to work , had 9.08 common . don't laugh ifell in as i landed it , and then had a 15.04 ghostie not bad as been as i did'nt know what i was doing
  5. Which is why: With a paternoster you do have to strike the hook in. It is NOT a self hooking rig. yes but as in korda 6 you may use it as a deception rig and a single hookbait
  6. with nicks drawing you could cover the paternoster line with plastic tubing as in the diagram set up it has a tendency to tangle
  7. some waters round here totally ban it ,which includes hooklinks
  8. 8lbs line is very light for me , and we don't know how much pressure you put on it , tie your own practice makes perfect
  9. theres a leading carp angler who believes his captures are above average , becaause he uses longer hooklengths than most people, but not for your reason, so you may have the right answer for the wrong reason

try testing one to destruction to see what happens, be careful not to hurt yourself though, the thread on the accidents as really spooked me and edited should probably be a sticky

I've just bought mantis i'll never learn
  12. That may work out more expensive! With Ready Made (shop bought) rigs you can not change the things that you may need to to put fish on the bank. Learn to tie your own as quickly as possible The things you need to change are usually the rig length or the hair length. You may be able to shorten a shop bought/ready made rig rig, but you sure as heck can't lengthen it. If you are losing fish to hookpulls or hooking them in the extremity of the lip, then you will likely need to lengthen a rig or hair. I find braid actually easier to tie knots with because it is more supple, and I haven't changed how I tie my rigs in over 16years. its like we keep saying practice Sal did and 16 years is a long time , theres no success without effort here
  13. Practice , practice , practice my young friend it does 'nt matter if the hooklink never see's a lake just practice and when it stands the destruction test put a bait on the next on and see what it looks like in the sink ,to fish long term you need to get good at this
  14. ditto and get them knots right
  15. Don't use it modern carpers have moved on, about 6 threads down mid kent bans leadcore i suggest you read this ,you might want to throw yours away
  16. Because if used with a heavy lead they also give added benefits that you'll know all about. I'll get back in my cave! i fish running leads and no lead core i saw the danger 12 months before fisheries started banning it ,my weak link is the knot from hooklink to swivel , hope you will put the carps welfare first now chaps and fall in line behind the Kent carpers who are pioneering the bans or don't you read the posts on carp welfare.
  17. Of course you can - have a bead and swivel under the float and tie a weak bottom link and bomb to it. i can't see much point in abandoning leads at a £1 a chuck 'Franks Leads' work out at about 66p with postage. special offers atm only 55p a lead:) Even cheaper carpioleads 30p a lead but have to pay postage so order lots more to save moeny Thanks for all the preaching guys i have lead clips but why would i use them they are ancient history to us modern carpers so why are you cavemen still using them?

  19. I thought you,d like that one, I've never used a boilie over a 16 mm its a confidence thing i've always preffered 2 x 10mm
  20. your a lot more experianced with hare's than me stoog, iwould naturally shorten the hair thinking its catching on the outside of the mouth maybe thats why you never fail and i lose fish my furry friend ,whats the longest you would make the hair?
  21. They are inadequate for what your trying to achieve,Tony
  22. thats horrendous it'll peck likea chicken in the wave action this rig works better if set up like a crane and hooks better if set up with a paper clip like a pike drifter
  23. in 20ft of water i had to put the hooklink on after casting with a link swivel
  24. You can't have a weakpoint to the lead cause the main line runs to it does'nt it had a go at setting it up today what a mess i don't think 20 years ago i was fishing a lake 20 ft deep using a tree branch as a rod rest i was looking to get it to work about 5 rod lengths, could only get it working at 2 , gave up freelined a doggie drifting on the wind eventually had a 12.07, i think i,d fed about a kilo to the rest of the carp they were like pirranahs , but so frustrating on the cotroller and the piece of stick.
  25. The main danger for breakages would be the force the hooklink hits the float hits the lead with ,i would incorporate beads to absorb some of the shock, i have had lots of big pike on float ledger rigs which are similer and i don't envisage too many problems.
