This is a must read !!!! Its got me thinking in a completely different way,and ive only read the first few pages as yet
-
tie a bunch of worms together using thread and a needle, then just tie this to your hair or rig ring etc
-
I love Hybrid It creates brilliant hinged rigs, the fluro coating is stiff- the braid is soft, unlike most other coated braids so you get that proper stiff boom effect. I do, however, like cortex as its rather soft through out, nice and subtle, comes in handy.

The problem that i can see with d-rigs and hair rigs in general, especially if they are tied with stiff rig or coated braid is that the direction in which the fish approaches the bait can dramatically affect the performance of the rig- this is why the 360 rig was thought up but even that has its floors. just something to think about If you are going to fish a pop-up tight to an island however, i would recommend using mono or soft fluoro and tying a 4-6 inch hook link straight to a ring swivel from the lead- d-rig style so there is a bit of anti- ejection . as you lead sinks into the debris around the island- especially from in line leads- it will pull the hook link into it and then a 6inch pop-up becomes possibly 2 inches. you get a really good instant bolt effect and then the characteristics of the rest of you lead set up come into play- a rig that starts as a bolt rig and remains the same may however cost you fish as a lot of waters are fished the same and carp manage to find a way of getting rid of the rig buy using the momentum of the semi-fixed lead sorry if i am preaching to the converted (nick/tony for definite so sorry ) but little refinements in you rigs and the way you think about your fishing situation could catch you more fish. Nick actually has a step by step guide to my favorite pop-up rig of which i have caught 15 fish so far this year out of about 30 on up to 18lb but it is a very different set up to the one just described. horses for courses as they say sorry again if this comes across big headed or anything like that but advise is there to be thought about , not nessacerily used there is always someone that can take something from somebody else's fishing no matter who, how or when
-
TBH they are not worth the money, i have caught more fish whilst using that horrible anti-tangle tubing- same swim same bait- Ill probably start a debate here but TBF leadcore is far better for concealment and to an even finer extent a length of soft 20/25lb fluorocarbon with putty dotted along it is even better.
-
The best all-round rig has got to be just a simple hair rig tied out of a thin mono or soft fluro hooklink- beginers to the most advanced carpers in the buisiness can catch on it and can be used practicaly anywere on any bottom, you just change the length of the rig or hair to suite Everybody adjusts their rigs to suit their fishing situation to make it better for that situation, after all, all carp rigs are just variations of the original hair rig arent they - a hook with bait coming of it somewhere
-
Thats an argument in itself. I have never had a scale lift off when not using tubing. You dont use tubing for your floater fishing and no one says anything about that. Exactly, i said something about that aswell, i think it was in the leader or not thread
-
well use this to your advantage, find the next best rig to use, because after some time the carp will adapt, maybe even tilting down slightly so the shrink tube pushes against the bed and releasing a lightly pricked fish, without any indication of a pick up.so if you adapt a rig to hook them better while they are doing this you will be one step ahead of the rest, use it when everybody's results start declining and your results will pick up. good point. Im going to make one to test my current rig, i havnt lost a fish or a pic up that has registerd on the bitealarm yet so im hoping that it will confirm how i think the rig is behaving.... it might completely shock me though and undermine my confidence in it, looking forward to getting one up and running now
-
yeh, i have that mag, im collecting the bits to make one of those tank testers, Looks better than cupping you hand and pulling at the rig incedently, that is why i was winging a few days ago, a load of people were using the withypool rig on my main water
-
Had you only just been born
-
Yeh, you can coat rigs in the same way but it affects the rig matierial, you just use super glue or a fancy rig resin, coat your hooklink/hook (leave your hook point and the curve of the shank clear. However It will stiffen your rig and can weaken some hooklinks (suden pull by the fish on a glued up knot can snap it easier than normal)
-
Whats natutral about a popped-up hook and bait i can see what you mean though im just being picky
-
Why dont you just use two rig rings on the "D" or use stiff rig off the one rig ring to make the hair long enought to leave 1-2cm between your baits, that way it would look like two separate baits but they would both be blown back and leave the hook point clear, just a suggestion off cource but it might be worth trying

Nice, ill remember that the next time in in a tackle shop up your way, Note to self... do not ask for a chod in Blobbys town
-
No worries mate, i know you wernt trying to stir, i was just clearing the issue up.

Have a browse through this Nige, it may clear up any uncertanties about my statements or fishing style http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=32598&start=25

Its just that I seem to remember reading in another thread a post of yours were you state that you don't use leadcore anymore and only use an IQ leader or fish straight through with your main line? Yet here you say that its always set up in your box along with all your other leadcore leaders I dont use leadcore anymore i still have loads of leaders in my box just in case i need to try somthing different or my new aproach stops working i like to keep my options open and dont see the point in binning somthing because i am not using it at the min Sorry Zander I must have mis read your post I thought the reason you said you stopped using it was for the fish safety aspect not for your catch rate Nope, i dont think that leadcore is detrimental to the fish, you must be thinking of nick, this was in a recent thread in the advanced section. IMO if leadcore is used correctly it is safer for the fish, nearly anyleader that you tie to your mainline can be detrimental to the fish if used incorrectly but if you use common sence nearly all problems can be avoided

What ??????? murky water has carp written all over it mate
-
I cant beleive that they have got a website dedicated to them !!!!!
-
Heres the link to the other "dodgy" rigs on screaming delkims, the ironic part is that they actually have images of their rigs underwater....and they are still pants http://www.screamingdelkims.se/ scroll down to the "below the surface" link
-
The leadcore is always setup in my box along with all of my other leadcore leaders and tubing ect, I tied the rig itself the night i posted the pic of that weired contraption from the screaming delkim website Seleb, too right mate, look at all of the components that can get jammed up if something goes wrong. Squire, I'm not one of those older carpers though mate, my dad was big into match fishing at the time and remembers some of the carpy gadgets/rigs from back then that his carp fishing mates used to use.
-
Whats the difference? some of the older members/ carpers get adjitated as is it was originaly called the silt rig but then fshionable reinvented and renamed by the "known" anglers of today summat like that
-
"Silt rig" not "chod" Basicaly i suppose it is, but its not a popup stiff rig so no not really
-
Thats more like it , pretty simple in comparison
